Got off to a late start and traffic is stopped dead in North Bend. For all of you already there, enjoy the country club vibes. May try again for night skiing tonight.
Yep WSDOT says the pass is closed EB.
Training for chair2. Was there a line?
I always found the chair 2 lift line was self moderating similar to TGR.
What happens when a single tries to ride (non Covid)? They get reamed by the cue. Maybe the maskless need some chair 2 lift line love.

Praise Ullr (or does El Hefe's wife deserve credit?) for blessing the padded seats realm with adequate snow for top gate openings in December.
Tuesday was dead quiet and a few pals made laps out to Piss Pass. Creeks and holes are still in play but the steeps held the surf beautifully.
Easterly flow:

Wednesday was fat doompage and the camera remained stashed.
Solid!
Freezing level was challenging this morning.
After skiing last night I was going to take the family up today. Then I watched the wetness and all the snow coming off roofs and trees so we pulled the plug. Was the top still decent?
Hoping this warm up is brief and we can get back to regularly scheduled programming soon. Extended forecast looks promising.
Pic from yesterday. If you can arrange to get up to exit 52 and then have them close the road behind you, I highly recommend it.

I am new to the area, and skipped getting a pass this year. My options for lift served today were non existent. I am somewhat new to the touring game, so went to Hyak along with many others. I can now say for certain:
my gear is not completely waterproof.
I have much practice to get better at transitions and skinning when it is not next to flat
Still need to wear less clothing on the way up.
need to get into better shape.
Those lessons aside, it was fantastic to get out and get some exercise in the woods! It was challenging skiing back down after the legs were a bit tired and snow consistency was essentially mashed potatoes.
Hot laps on Silver Fir with my two boys today, ski on zero lines, USDA Choice Cascade Mash Potatoes. Rain/snow transition about half way up the lift, but creeping further down the hill when we left about 2. Still fun AF.
Side Note: Stio Environ shell DWR is no joke. thanks Gunder!
Yeah, I have always dropped large on outerwear. I believe my coat has lost its effectiveness as its about 6 to 8 years old...normally, still does great in the conditions I usually find myself in (I usually avoid days it is straight up raining...) but yeah...time for a purchase I reckon! :)
holy fog mush batman
Heavy rain switched to nukage a little after 1pm. Now I90 is closed for 70 miles due to the carnage. The spackle was running smooth on the lower mountain (though off piste was challenging). The padded seats were skiing pretty nice all day and getting better. Should be a great day tomorrow. Get up there early before the pass closes.
Also shout out to the group of ~50 Russian sledders for invading Lot 4 and making a run at St. Bernard. Impressively ignoring security and ski patrol.
Stoked on some real deep snow, and getting my confidence back skiing the fan fast and fluid. Not real stoked on the ikonic complaining about alpental in the lines. And not stoked on folks running over patrol and through ropes when int'l opened. That opening lap down international was surprisingly good, deep and untouched though... Best lap of the year for me so far.
The delayed opening caused a backup but things got rolling and not too bad today. Lot 4 full by 8:40, lots of snowshoes and sledders up there.

Speaking of rope drops ... patroller knew he was going to get pummeled. Appreciate your sacrifice dude.

Got to watch a nice giants win in the AM then smash an empty chair in the PM. Upper mountain was just about perfect. SS, UI. All of it. Very nice. Lower was heavy, but still fun. Was still going strong at 5 pm, tomorrow good as well.

Just checking in to say I followed SVS down the right side of Nash. It was bonkers and almost unbelievable. SVS must have legs of steel because I had to stop to rest 3 times between the rope drop and the bottom of lower-I.
Here’s a pic of the big drop in SVS’s other video, look just under the empty chairs.

if i liked to hear SVS grunt any more we’d be fucking
thanks for the footy

Big deal at work blew up this morning as I was gearing up for powder Tuesday. Unfortunately I won't be able to join the mags and tech bros this morning for the pillaging and will have to be content with sloppy seconds tonight. Enjoy the first Powder Tuesday of '21. Eager to see the stoke from today!
I thought it was great. Lower 3rd was pretty heavy. Armstrong was basically ski on all morning. 2 was full till 12ish. Legs gave up sooner than I hoped. Sorry no photos.
Heck yeah! I made it up for a couple hours to close out the night with my 10yo. Cascade Traverse was closed so terrain was limited. Top 2/3rd of Armstrong was skiing great. Bottom was a bit sticky. Dumping as I'm leaving with smooth, creamy snow all the way to the bottom. Hoping it keeps up. I'm playing hooky from work to bring my 3 boys up tomorrow.
Night skiing was acceptable tonight. Soft and creamy chopped up powder. Padded seats will be worthwhile in the morning unless the snow level rises overnight
