Yes, went down to 16's and running Nokian Hakkappelitta R3's

For what it's worth, I owned a TDI Sportwagen which was part of the recall so got basically the same car in a gasoline version. The MPG difference was surprisingly similar with the TDI only getting 5ish MPG better and often the difference was less, up to 38mpg in the gas version. Not sure how that would play out in an AWD version though. Gas was nice over diesel for shorter around town trips but the TDI definitely ruled on the highway/interstate.
I run 215/60/16 with Hakkapelita R3. It’s a tank. I have rockblok fender cover and tires rubs ever so slight. Thing is a tank with these tires. Could run 205/65/16 or 205/60/16 as well. No issues on brake caliper clearance

I run 215/60/R16 Blizzak WS80 with RallyArmor's. No discernable rub for me, but I haven't checked closely in the wheel wells.
16s are the way to go. I scored a set of Konig Oversteers for $220 on amazon and mounted them with Blizzak WS80s. Car kills it in the snow.
The Konigs look great with our black paint, but brake clearance is tight. https://konigwheels.com/wheels/main-...els/oversteer/

Thanks all. Probably going to run AS’s this winter and put snows on next winter after we move and know the storage situation. The stock Falkens seem like garbage - my front left has developed an egg in the sidewall that luckily hasn’t had any effect after 10k miles per the Carfax report.
Not snows but running Nokian WRG4s 225/50/17. No complaints having them year round.
There's a place with oem vw rims for like $99/rim if you want to keep existing look. It's my plan for the tdi in a week or 2. Mine came with snows so I had to swap out at purchase. Snows sitting rimless in garage now waiting for rims.

This wagon continues to be a gem. Great gas mileage and decent power. Apple car play is seamless and it holds a ton of gear. Just downshift to get in the power band. Sweet

I’m doing the same and am mostly happy. Clearance is fine and the snow performance is great. They feel a little less nimble than stock though on dry roads. No big deal but when I need to replace I may try the other 17” size wrg4 that makes sense and is a little narrower; I forget what that is.
I’d just use snows in winter if it made sense for where I live.
Love ours. But anyone else have crazy bad condensation in the mornings? Granted, I moved out to the woods which basically feels like a rain-forest most of the time, but I've never had a car with so much dampness on the interior windows.
I have a weird film on front windows. Gonna try the window wax I got and see if it helps

Yeah. Mine seems to be bad for condensation. No idea why.
17 SE ~30k. My driver's seat cracked open, and all my suspension started creaking like a 100 year old man; it was pretty gross. VW fixed it under warranty, but it took two trips to the VW dealer and them returning the car to me with a deep exterior scratch and a cracked driver's side interior panel.
I got the thing on the cheap for cash from a desperate to move something VW dealer. Regardless, i've been happy, and with some 16" blizzaks it's great in the snow.
Coincidence? Mine gave me the "change key battery" warning today when leaving for skiing, but still unlocked the door when cold.
Seems 2032 batteries fit in the slot (plenty of those at home) but won't lock in place - gotta be 2025, which I don't have spares of . . .
We’ve probably had 6-7 dead FOBs in the last couple years. Never have had the car recognize that the battery was low, so I can only assume it was mostly cold-related.
The biggest annoyance is that the dead FOB start protocol (holding it against the steering column) doesn’t work well and takes a few min to get the car going

I only had a 2032 and I just crammed it in there, maybe the extra 60 mah will make a difference?
When my old Touareg was about 10yrs old water would drip on me inside during heavy downpours. bad sunroof drainage and seals? Heard it from others as well.
I’d assume they fixed that.
Loved that thing and pissed I got rid of it. The V8 was nice.

The sunroofs are still garbage. It is the number one complaint with these things. Love me some S...but they can leak too, other ways, just less common and generally fixable.

Strange that hasn’t been addressed by VW since it’s been a thing for a decade or two at least.
Wondering if that is somehow related to the excessive condensation, bad seals or something.

The issue with Golf/Alltracks relates to the sunroof drains tubes that drop vertically from the corners. For years VW put drip plugs at the bottom of the drain tubes to keep moisture/bugs from coming up the tubes. Unfortunately the plugs eventually let sediment build up, blocking drainage and causing water to fill up the tube and leak from the sunroof tray into the headliner.
VW issued a recall for Golf/Alltrack this year to remove the plugs and clear the drain tubes. I would guess that some part of this system causes the condensation issues, pre or post plugs.
FWIW we love the sunroof, glad we got the SE and have had a drain tube leak a year before the recall. It was an inconvenience (dealer is an hour away), but they did the same fix as the recall and no issues since.

Agreed. Common but fixable problem. If you've got condensation in your car, that's the problem. Also love the sunroof. Mine's in a garage most nights, but when I left it in a parking lot for a couple of weeks, I came back to dankness.
So why do I have condensation and no sunroof? Will look in spare area but seems worse this winter than last?

Funny, we had an Alltrack for 3 years and the sunroof never leaked - most everything else needed repairing - but the sunroof was never an issue.
This is the problem with sunroofs in cars in general. I was set on getting a fully loaded SEL, downgraded to the S when I found out anything above the base model had to include a sunroof. Knew I dodged a bullet.
Has anyone else had their windshield spontaneously crack?

Only when I used warm water on it in winter. Will never do that again. It was really ice caked and seemed like a good idea at the time. Nope

It was lots of small annoying things - a front wheel bearing needed replacing early, the right rear tire wore unevenly and the dealer couldn't figure out why (?), suspension bolts would came loose randomly, it leaked coolant at one point. I can't recall the rest but it was at the dealer once every couple of months for something. It didn't help that the local VW dealer sucks and would nickel and dime me every time something needed attention. One time the service manager told me "if we fixed your car we have to charge you something." Really? Because that's not how warranties work.
I ended up getting rid of it after they offered to buy it back due to their need for used cars. They gave me over KBB value so I wanted to just get rid of the damn thing. I then immediately bought a new Volvo V60 XC.
I've owned many VW/Audis over the years and you can usually drive them for 70-80k before shit starts going wrong but this Alltrack was a mess. Great car, loved the way it drove - great steering, DSG was surprisingly fun, plowed through snow with ease, torquey little engine - but a reliability nightmare.
Wild, glad you got a good deal in the end; V60/V90 are lust worthy.
I guess we've been lucky with minor things, thus far. Wife wants to keep the Alltrack for 20yrs... We'll see how things look in a couple years when the warranty disappears, let alone once we hit 100k.
I just hit 70K on our 2017
I almost bought a V60 XC, but couldn't stomach the premium. It was much nicer though. Felt like a real cockpit in the drivers seat. I do wonder how the self-driving features compared. One of my favorite things about my Alltrack SEL. So far loving the car, knock on wood....
