But the 2nd run is still in progress...fingers crossed.

Holdener takes 0.45 second lead. Two gals to go!
And Zuzalova is 0.90 faster. Go Mikaela
Yaa! Thought she was going to go off course at the top when she got backseat some. She can recover so quickly!
How the FUCK did she make up that much time in the last 15 gates? That was incredible. Another win for Shiffrin.
2nd place nailed her run. It was almost flawless, she was right on the edge of crashing but never had to scrub speed. Mikaela has a shitty top yet somehow manages to make up .8 seconds in the final pitch and flat.
It must really suck to have a great run and lose even though your competition has a shitty day.
Zuzulova crushed that second run, yet Mikaela did her lower course comeback!!! Wow, those will be two runs to see. Way to go Shiffrin, what a pressure performance. She sure deserves the consecutive win record.
Good gawd, she is amazing. Had a bit of trouble and was trailing by about 0.4.. Turned up the heat in the last third and won by a big margin. Amazing how she can accelerate like that!
HAT TRICK for the 21 year old superstar!!
she is unbelievable. The domination is insane.
where are you guys watching this? can somebody post a link please?
I wasn't watching it, was just following results online.
Ridiculous
It was on NBCSN this morning. GS was on Universal. Usually you can stream off the NBCsports website but you have to have a cable subscription or a password.
Watching now. Mikaela is a legend.
What an amazing race. You had to feel for Zuzulova...you could tell she was rightfully super stoked on her run only to have the carpet pulled out from underneath her by Shiffrin who had some sketchy moments. So exciting to watch.
Shiffrin just continues to amaze.
At this point it seems like Shiffrin has to lose races. No one else can win them if she skis anywhere near her best.
Does anyone have more snow feel than her, ever?
I don't think so.
Incredible athlete
Has any racer (male or female) ever won all the races in a particular discipline in a given year? Stenmark, maybe?
Crushed it, just fucking crushed it, makes up a full second through second part of course in the flat, crushed . I love a good night race.
Just watched both runs here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMddIM5fo0k
She seems to just have turbo jets at the bottom of the course, first run too, where she was down .09 and then had a big slip up yet still ended up .09.
Making up a second on that lower portion is pretty much the definition of insane.
Anybody know what kind of DIN settings these gals run? I'm hyperfocused on all the injuries since I am just coming off of my own. Fascinating to read the backstory on the racers that are injured and recovering/recovered.
Simply insane lower section on that second slalom run. You could tell she hit hyper gear when she heard the gasp from the crowd. She was floating through the gates. I think the series of gates at this spot in the Youtube video linked above was what got her the win.
Attachment 196086
She LAUNCHED herself through there with far more speed than any of the other women. She was almost a bit out of control which is unusual for her.
It is her M.O. to sit back on the upper section of a course either maintaining of losing time and then crush the bottom section to end up with silly win margins. I wonder (getting into the Lindsey V realm here) if she could be competitive with the men if she could start to put together full runs at her ludicrous speed?
I think she is gaining confidence in the fact that she can push the speed edge farther into the out of control range and still control it . Now that she is figuring that she doesn't have to look perfect, she is going to start dominating the faster events (see evidence of this in the back-to-back GS wins).
Stenmark was something to watch back in the day. Shiffrin is at least or more dominant now.
Straddle in the slalom in Zagreb. Oops.
How many gates has she skied without a major mistake before today?
Well it has certainly been a while since she had a DNF in Slalom.

The crazy part is that even though Shiffrin has dominated the season so far, with that DNF, Zuzulova is only 10 points back in the slalom standings. Shows you that Zuzulova has been skiing very consistently as well.Quote:
It was the first time in more than four years that Shiffrin failed to finish a slalom race. Her previous DNF came in Semmering, Austria, in December 2012, one week after she had earned her first of 26 career victories.
This DNF prob cost her the globe.
She does seem to be pushing a lot harder recently, it is often necessary in SL to win where a couple of recoveries are still quicker than skiing clean but there is balance. I couldn't see from the clip on the FIS site if this was just a simple lapse in judgement or not though.
doubtful, it made the sl standings close, she's crushing the overall
http://data.fis-ski.com/alpine-skiin...&discipline=SL
SHIFFRIN, won 500 points
VELEZ ZUZULOVA, dnf 390 points
SL standins after Maribor
Today she had a gate break off, hang between her legs for a turn, she kinda skis around it/ignores it/steps over it...wins.
