I may be driving up solo, but can't get there until Friday night. Will look for mags in all the usual places when I get there.

Whoever has a shotski please bring it up......
BigKuba ain't coming (neither is SSD, BTW) and I think his shotski may be on a moving truck by then. Jerk.
I think we're coming up on Friday evening and will probably come visit camp either Friday or Saturday (or both) and possibly stay depending on blood alcohol level.
I'll check out the scenic loop tomorrow or sunday and post up the conditions.
I will also check out the scenic loop again on Sunday. (BSS - maybe I'll see you at Mammoth on Sunday)
There was still a quite a bit of snow along the loop last weekend.
I also did some BC recon detours on my way home last Saturday:
Lundy Lake looked doable and perhaps with a bit easier access since the lake is pretty low.
Highway 120 was gated 3 miles up the road.
Virginia Lakes road is open to the trailhead even though the campground is closed. The bowl on the other side of the lake is in good shape. The backside of Dunderberg has a south facing gully that looks skiable down to the Green Creek turnoff (Green Creek road still had a couple of feet of snow covering it.)
One of the access roads to the Sweetwaters had a couple of feet of snow on it too.
Highway 108 is closed.
Highway 89, Monitor Pass is open. (I have already skied around there a few times this spring.)
/\/\ Sounds like Virginia Lakes may be the call, based on that info.
Also, it looks like Tioga Pass Rd. is nearly finished being plowed. That bodes well for getting it open by next weekend.
I've been super-busy lately and just talked to Captain Powder again. Looks like he's in. Punani's in. Pokey The Edgemaster is in.
asandygal - lost your phone number when my phone died, please call me.
Thinking on leaving the east bay early Friday, returning Monday afternoon if anyone wants a ride, maybe share a bit of driving and gas?
prolly in a Durango with the grom so room for 2
Splat-you lock up anything? MMI looks cheap if split 2/3 ways.
ok, so that's like 48 and it is undoubtedly growing. most are camping for several days. what does it take to move out of 'mini' status?
how about 'mammoth maxi'?
or 'mammoth, ribbed for her pleasure'?
anyway, speaking of growing, tahoetrash will be there for last hurrah before moving east to become mainerefuse.
Hey, Turx, Cinders and I are sharing a two bedroom + loft place in the same complex as you guys (Mountain Shadows). We've got room for another person (maybe two) and would love to have someone to contribute a bit to the rent. PM me if interested/needy. Hookers & Blow are cool, just don't melt the blow in my volcano.
In in.
Myself + 1 will be there riding on sunday. Possibly camping saturday night, too.
Skimming this thread I see there will be booze, camping, tioga, ticket hookups? big jumps and skiing, Im in.
First, some BC recon from last weekend (May 8th)

Tioga and Sonora were still closed today (May 16th)
Next, a few quick pictures from today.
Inyo Craters Road off of the Scenic Loop:

I talked to a Mt. Biker who went about 100 yards up the road and then he turned around because the road was completely covered in snow.

As you can see there is still a lot of snow. It may snow again tomorrow before another melt/freeze corn cycle begins prior to the mini. If you are coming to the mini, you have a lot to look forward to. If you are on the fence, get your ass off of the fence and make it to Mammoth.
I saw this misspelling of maggot on the way home:

I'm in. I'll try to represent bigkuba, V and SSD as much as I can -- I hope some of their debauchery has rubbed off onto me!
I can't find my climbing skins, where the hell are they? Does anybody have a spare pair by any chance?
To recapitulate what Schralph suggested earlier, I'll kick off the camping roll call:
Camping @ MM 2010:
Dookey
I hope we get lucky with temperatures. With new snow, I either want the top to stay cold, or the whole mountain to get warm and slushy. I am worried the top may soften up, then get firm and stay firm. Wednesday and Thursday are supposed to have highs in the 40's, while Friday and Saturday are supposed to have highs in the low 30's, so I am a bit nervous. Hopefully this storm will bond up well, and we won't have dust on crust.
Anyone got asandygal's phone number? I lost it when my phone died.
What's the game plan for drinking this weekend?
I vote no straw. Straws are just not a sustainable practice. Further, the plasticizers used in production do not bond well and can be ingested. Results can be bad.
Dookey - I'll be camping. No money to spare for me.
Think I'll be in bounds on Thurs. Anyone else going to be around? Or should I tour. It looks pretty warm over night on Wed...
bamboo?

wonder why thurston used the bamboo glass, but the plastic straw?

I have the "Dude" costume all ready for wear and riding on Saturday...will be out there with hair down, shaggy beard, shades, in a robe and boxer shorts with a white Russian in hand (or both) (no straw)
Ginny Lakes bc (or Dana Plat) on Friday...not so sure about Sunday...
I am bringing the color port-o-bar with Green-nades, Margie Blues, Hurricanes, Blood-Mojitos, White Russians, Jager-Absenthe bombs...I have six different sizes of straws with matching umbrellas
Car camping all weekend...but will be spending some time at my favorite clothing optional Whitmore hot tub with any of the ladies who dare to bare with the Dude and myself...
I'm going to work on convincing my wife that it's a good idea for me to go solo and leave her and the munchkin home alone - again. Recon for our late-June / early-July trip...
put me down for "maybe"
Bad news. As vets posted, the scenic loop is still buried except for a couple turnouts right by the corner at hwy 395. It seems the USFS also went apeshit with "no overnight camping" signs at the geothermal site this past week. Not sure if something went down recently, or they're just reinforcing old policy but either way that one's not gonna work.
I have a nice group sized campsite in mind out by the hot springs, but I'm not posting directions publicly. Plus it's kinda far for most people's taste anyways.
Any suggestions?
You got some big shoes to fill, you are following the debauchery kings.
I doubt I will be touring, and I have pairs of 99 and 112mm underfoot skins if they are of any help. I probably won't hit town until Friday night, or possibly Saturday early depending when I get out of work.
we've got a lot to live up to.
I ran into the Colorado/Summit County Telemark Tips crew at A-Basin on 5/8 and those folks knew how to party...they had a full bar set up on the beach, shot ski flying at 10 a.m. and never less than 30 folks tipping something alcoholic back into their gullet.
I'm to cheap for a bring a friend lift ticket, unless there are going to be 0n3p demo's.
Thinking Basin Mountain on Thursday
Something around N/S Lake on Friday. Would like to do Hurd, but not if I'm solo.
Maybe something on the Crest or Tioga on Saturday and/or Sunday. Would also do Bloody again if someone has a 4x4. I'm not hiking from the bottom again.
Let me know if you want to join me or if you are looking for someone to join you on a backcountry trip.
I notice the forecasts for the Bay Area are showing some Windy weather headed down :frown:
Do Y'all think it's likely to affect us at Mammoth?
I was at Mammy last year when almost the whole Mtn was closed down by wind. Some of the lifts were running, but none of the ones that are open now.
So, if we do get skunked by wind, whaddawedo?
Can we head to June, or did it close long ago?
Head to the bc? Beeper practice? Drunkenness? Nudie Hot-tubbin'?
There's def. enough space for cars and trucks, tents, etc. out near the end of the scenic loop. It's pretty close to the road though. Snow was mostly all melted off out near sherwins, but really muddy everywhere. Is anybody nearby that could go poke around out there?
191cm/181cm Caylors and 191cm/181cm Wrenegades mounted w/ demos went off to MTT today. Hope you guys all have a good time!
anybody skiing the resort Friday and Sunday still looking for cheap tix?
lemme know as we can prolly work a deal...
