your opinion is not valid to this discussion until we have an iota of evidence you ski half as much as you hate on things....

I'm out of my jong hibernation for this one..because this strikes a major nerve. I skied at Jackson Hole mountain resort for 10 days at the end of January and one powder day..I got into the singles line of the gondola and there were 5-6 pairs of skis/boards at the front of the line and no people..none at all. So I went to the front..and stood there for a solid 10 minutes..this was around 8:20AM...
Well around 8:30AM an old dude got right in my face and was like WTF..he said he got there at 7:30AM and was first in line..I asked where he'd been the last 10 minutes and he said he was getting coffee. I told him..I guess there was a ghost and he got even more pissed. Then his buddy was pissed because he said I almost stepped on his helmet which was sitting on the concrete..I asked why his helmet was there. Well another guy said I would get my ass kicked if I didn't get to the back of the line. I just stood there.
Imagine saving your spot waiting for a concert with a pair of shoes..I know that it was a no no to save spots in the Tram line with skis. If you're not physically there, you're not in line. In theory I could stick my skis in the front of the gondi line at 4:00PM when the lifts close and roll in at 8:59AM..hahaha..but anyway to avoid getting my ass kicked..I got in the regular line and was like 5th gondola..
O.K. back to hibernation and lurking..lol
that story explains so much. j/k seriously, that is fuckin awful. I've def had words w/ folks who tried the same maneuver.
That being said, if me and friend arrive well b4 first chair, I think it's ok if one us goes and does whatever prior to post time so long as we're back in plenty of tiime.
This reminds me of christmas break at Okemo VT. I was there with a few friends and we got about 8 inches, which was a big deal for us because living in the East and dealing with school doesn't add up to a lot of pow days. We weren't first chair, but by the time we rolled in it still wasn't too crowded. We ski down and enjoy ourselves, but a lot of the trails had more tracks than you'd expect at that time being that the lift had just opened maybe 15 minutes before.
Towards the end of the day I found out the guys with gold passes (or premium or whatever thousand dollar waste of money for a mountain like Okemo passes) get to ski 30 minutes earlier. It was pretty irritating.. so much for first chair even mattering when others are getting on in front of you while you sit there waiting. Not the end of the world, and it was still a fun day.
if you can beat me down you can tell me not to poach the lift line. some guy got pissed at me on a weekday for moving up in front of him to ride with my buddy (a total of four people). i succumbed to his pressure, moved back to where i was in line, and told him to not be so butt hurt. i then beat him down by about 40 chairs.
if you look at it from the right perspective (mine), you should all let me cut in front of you if i ski faster. to those that ski faster than me, you can go first. it would also lessen the chance of somebody getting ran over.
I dropped my praxis on a nice snow day a few weeks back in front of a closed line, take about 2 seconds to click in and the next thing I see, this fucking ass clown skis over my top sheets and plows into the closed lanes' ropes.
I am fucking steamed, but just want to get skiing, not get into it. So I am getting on the lift and the dude, pulls up right next to me to sit down.
At first I thought, I should just let it go - the guy looked like he was 60 and was probably a nice guy - but I was fucking pissed. He didn't say sorry - or anything.
"So what was that about?"
he doesn't appear to know what I'm talking about.
"before you crashed into those ropes, you skied over my skis. I didn't think that was fucking cool."
so he apologizes and says that they usually have that lane open, and he didn't see the ropes.
"I'm not sure why that would change the fact that you skied over my top sheets."
he apologized again, and I made sorta nice w/ the rest of the lift but I was pissed.
