I have had the 18yr Macallan..its good but overpriced...
One of the sleepers is the Macallan Cask Strength...
Very good, and find it out here for around $56...
I will have to get down to the local costco...for $70 it is worth it...
Now I have 2 bottles I want to get a hold of for those winter evenings..Lagavulin mature
and that 17yr macallan...

Just tried some Laphroaig 10 year and it was almost as good as the much more expensive 16 year Lagavulin, but $35 cheaper per bottle. Sweet and intensely smoky, almost an aftertaste of beef jerky. Its permanently replacing the usual lagavulin slot in my liquor cabinet now so I can save some cash. Mmm mmm mmm.
Damn, shopping around on the internetz for some 18 yr old Highland Park. Best price I found was $92 shipped to CA:frown: Anyone know a good deal on that or the Caol Ila 18 yr old?

What kind of glasses do you use to drink your scotch? I had been using brandy snifters as I like the tulip shape, but I just ordered a set of these glasses from the Scotch Doc....tulip shape, no stem, hand blown and thick glass.....Looks perfect to me.

Snagged a bottle of Glenfiddich Distillery Edition (102 proof/15 yr) while in MoCo, Md a few weeks ago. Quite tasty! I like the cask strength scotches.

Ardbeg 10yo(former favourite), Bowmore 12yo, Bruichladdich Peat, Laphroaig Cask Strength 10yo(extreeeemely good. Needs shitloads of water), Laphroaig Quarter Cask (current favourite, although all aforementioned malts kill it), Glenlivet 12yo, Oban 14yo(semi-favourite non-Islay), Springbank vintage 1997 cask strength (Springbank 10 being perhaps the best non-Islay out there in my opinion - I kinda like my peat+smoke), and Old Pulteney 12yo, a bottle of swill I keep around to get my brother drunk.

Bought a bottle of Highland Park 12. 1/3 of the way through. Sure to post in get drunk and post as much as you can soon. In the morning, hangover check in (after physical therapy of course).

David Stewart a Master Distiller with Balvenie for 50 years says the following about drinking the nectar of the gods (ok I made up the nectar bit):
"There's no right way to drink whiskey, though there is a method of training yourself to distinguish the subtleties. Add a bit of water to your dram (the proportion should be 1:3), give it a shake (do this with your hand over the lip: rubbing your palm will help you get a sense of the malt's nose), then take two sharp sniffs."
Now I do not condone the "shaking" method while in the midst of mixed company at the local watering hole. I have always maintained that an approximate 1:3 ratio of scotch (that's 3 scotch to 1 water BTW) to water allowed me to properly "taste" the scotch. Much to the chagrin of many of my supposed "friends" who said it should only be drunk neat. :the_finge

I always add a small splash of cold water ^^ so that doesn't sound bad to me but I 'm thinking scotch with coke or any kind of soft drink is verboten eh?
BTW I was scoping duty free scotch in europe last month AND the higher end stuff specifically Laphroaig Quarter Cask is as cheap or possibly cheaper in Alberta than BC
Oh yeah Al, no pop with that stuff for sure. Though I've a soft spot for the occasional scotch and soda (as in club soda yanks) especially with cheaper scotch. Prices for booze are much cheaper in Alberta that's for sure. I really liked buying booze in Poland though - that was heaven!
Rather than carry booze from yurp to syrup land I decided to just wait till I am next in Alberta ... AKA Mordor
I can agree with cheap scotch n soda but I'm not sure one should drink cheap scotch?
How can there be a wrong way to drink Scotch? I mean fuck, you're drinking Scotch, right? I like 2 fingers in a bucket glass with 1 ice cube.
