Yes, 7th is a Riblet. I absolutely love old doubles, it's what I think of when I think about a ski lift. HSQs are such a sterile experience you really have to try to eat shit loading up, but one wrong move on a fixed double moving at high speed and its a great few minutes of entertainment and excitement for even the most experienced.
I can honestly say being a lifty at a tiny mom & pop ice bump back in the 90s was the most enjoyable job I've ever had.

I'm proud that my three boys all started out skiing on riblets. Scared the shit out of me sometimes, but I appreciate that they caught a bit of that era.

Crystal was a shit show .. going back to unlimited with ikon was a terrible decision. Hopefully nway and six got opened . Started the season with a couple hyak laps. Snow was lighter than expected and the face was moguls past the top pitch but it was nice to see some sun.

Watched the shitshow on Saturday from the comfort of my bed. Wind kept the upper mountain closed until after 12:30- patrol couldn’t even get up on the ridge until 9am as there were triple digit winds recorded.
South faces are still spicy, but the refresh has been more than enough to train the legs.

Lots filled up, but by the afternoon the mountain was empty from all the weak legged techies tapping out.
Hey wow I skied all those same places today. Snow was above average, crowds were mostly well behaved, and the traffic was as good as the artwork.
I left at an embarrassingly early Sunday morning and fairly smooth sailing on the roads.
Was at the rope drop for the Upper NorthWay cat track. While not untracked through the powder bowl, was nice. Real soft down lower. (Call me crazy, but an untouched run that is groomed, and has a few inches of new is fun...)
Next run was Bruce's bowl. Found some untracked goodness there. So nice to be out in front of the crowds!
Entries up top are pretty touchy with coverage. I'm still relatively new to this hill. With a later season\good base, there are some sweet lines to be had...

On Sunday, I learned the hard way that 6:30 a.m. on a weekend is far too late to depart Seattle for Crystal. 1hr+ of stop and go to get the final couple of miles into the parking lot. I've been on Epic for the last several seasons and didn't realize there was an arms race taking place of leaving earlier and earlier to avoid traffic.
Other than that, the weather was phenomenal and the snow was great, albeit low coverage in some places. Very rocky navigation around the top of chair six
what a great day at crystal! Apparently I need to quit my job and just go on weekdays cuz that was perfect.
Sucks itll be gone tomorrow, but today was sick up at stevens. Stuff is filling in nicely, but still need more down low snow
Fun while it lasted
Yesterday afternoon at Mission was great storm skiing. Got a late start due to a burst water heater but it worked out, arrived just after noon about an hour after the storm started. Filling in to boot top on the groomed runs and knee deep in area off piste from Sunday night’s storm. The snow was very reactive by fifteen hundred, shooting cracks and small slabs moving with little provocation on steeper wind exposed slopes. Good skiing if a bit thick.

Stevens this morning was awful.
Raining pulling into the parking lot, Every lot was inches of slush,
Warming up and raining in the morning, lower mountain was bouncing back and forth over the 32 deg F line,
Tons of lifts closed..
The first 10 turns up high we nice, and it quickly degenerated into the nastiest wet concrete on top of a thick crispy crust, to pure cascade concrete that you could wring drops of water out of while making snowballs..
Anyways... TLDR. I skipped work, went skiing. Conditions were terrible, it was still great. Gnar shredded..happy.

Friday was spring mush up at Stevens but today there were a few soft pockets with a crust hiding just under the surface and refrozen crud abound. Left around 4:30 and it had been snowing hard since about 1. Tomorrow could be a good time to be up there.
Saturday at Stevens was meh. Groomer day.
Yesterday was much better. Rain crust froze up to be (mostly) supportable then added 4" on top of that. Jupiter opened for the first time and I hit it right for four quality laps until the crowds showed up.
My daughter's race season is upon me so I will be up there pretty much every weekend day (including 6 in a row between Christmas and New Years for holiday camp). If any Mags are ever around, it would be good to make a few turns together.
Really deep and heavy at Stevens today. Steeps are fun. Lower angle is tough until it starts getting some traffic. Classic Cascade Crud on the menu. Also, feels like everything is sliding down to the ice/crust layer from a week and half ago.
Anyone ski crystal ?

I skied Crystal yesterday. Deep and heavy snow and super windy and foggy - even Forest Queen was on wind hold about lunchtime.
As always, we had a great time!
