2024/25 BC Southern Interior

Tighten Your Boots at Sun Peaks has a double fall line and has been subject to the recent lower mountain freeze/thaw cycle. It is mostly the domain of snowboarders. Skiing Munro Ridge and then hanging a left at the bottom of the run onto the 5 Mile Outrun and hiking/ski-skating back toward the Village is do-able. Stuntmonkey, I would suggest lots of Chief shoulders, Chief/Challenger laps, Expo, Burf lift line, Freddie's Nightmare, Rollercoaster. Burf chair is where it's at.. though to be fair Morrisey lift was but a dream when I lived there. I give my advice knowing the sort of shit you like skiing in the Rockies. I think you will find SP a little tamer than your usual skiing.

Right on. It's a perfect place for groups that have different levels. You can all ski the same lift but ski different levels of difficulty in your runs. Well laid out village, shit tons of terrain and every aspect of the compass covered (along with a respectable vert). Lots of decent dining options too. Have a great time, I miss Tod (er, SP).

When did they change it from "Ridge" to "Munro Ridge"?
I remember hating that it when it was ungroomed and I sucked at moguls and that was the only way to get to the Burf lodge.

Hey all, nice thread you've got here. I've got an upcoming trip to Fairy Meadows in a few weeks and am trying to keep an eye on weather conditions as spring progresses. I'm trying to get a handle on which weather stations are the most representative of the area and am having a hard time navigating Avalanche Canada's website since I don't know where any of these locations are. Of the links at www.avalanche.ca/weather/stations is the best bet the Rogers Pass and MacDonald West Shoulder stations or are there others I should be looking at?

Fidelity. It has the same elevation and gets the same storm directions. Macdonald is good for temps too. Less for wind direction

If you follow GAH and Great Canadian every now and then they post wx and temps. Those are useful.

Also use windy and watch for storm tracks coming up the Mica drainage and funneling up towards FM. There are some stations there on the dam which can show indicative storms

Caucasian Asian, The Ridge at Sun Peaks was renamed Munro Ridge a half dozen or so years ago to honour one of the Tod Mountain founders from the early 1960s.

April 8 Update
A Strong Finish

https://www.powderhighwaybackcountry.../IMG_6081.jpegAfter the late March warm-up, and ensuing precipitation, a ridge of high pressure established itself over the Powder Highway region; fortunately the storm system went out cold and deposited 20-30cm of storm snow above 1700m. The late March warm up and rain event caused a significant avalanche cycle and stressed the snowpack enough that stability improved significantly during the first week of April when temperatures cooled off.
This proved to be a perfect time for a quick ski accessed basecamp in the Valhallas. The unsettled weather was pushed out by a cold front that facetted the recent storm snow and pressed/scoured northerly aspects. We found dry snow on solar aspects above 1800m and to 1400m on north aspects on April 3.
