How does the width of the gft toe box and overall length compare to a tour wrap? I’ve been skiing a 27 tw in a 27.5 Hoji Free. The width of the toe box is perfect but it feels a bit short even after molding with double toe caps. I know I can fit a 28 tw in the Hoji to get the length/width comfort but the heel hold will still be less than optimal. I would happily take the price/weight penalty for a locked in heel if the width/length is similar to a 28 wrap.

The neoprene toebox for Zipfits are quite thin, stretchy and forgiving. Even if they’re a bit short or narrow at first, IME they will stretch to accommodate your foot after a day or two. I have more forefoot room with GFTs than pro tours, even after padding/moulding the pro tours.
I have used Zipfits for the past decade. Oldest pair in my Scarpa touring boots and the newer pair in my Tecnica Mach 1 MV. Both liners are Gara. Boots are 26.5 and liners are 27.5. 26.5 liners were too short for me.Quote:

I mean that’s going to depend on your personal shell fit. My 27.5 zipfits work well in all my 27.5 shells. But I have a snug fit in a Lange. If your foot fits well in the shell to begin with then I’d just match the sizing. But if you have funky stuff like a low instep in a high volume instep boot then that will change some things.Quote:

Sometimes you don’t get much choice on shell though. I’ve got ZeroGs sized down as far as I can without toe work, and I still have movement with 9 tubes added. My feet also like to go a bit numb but I think that’s because I am playing around with forefoot shims to deal with the massively tall toe box of the ZeroG that the Zipfit has no capacity to deal with and actually makes roomier.Quote:

Most people I know who have zipfits have at least 6 tubes. Zipfits are really thin compared to intuitions and have no squish so it’s either tight or loose. Even if you have a hard stop on your heel lift.

I wouldn’t recommend anything without seeing your foot and measuring it. But the fact that you can fit a size larger liner in your shell plus 4.5 tubes of cork in each shell too, would lead me to believe your shell is a size to big to start with.Quote:

My foot measure 253mm. There’s no chance in hell I’m going in a 23 for a touring boot. Do you work at Pulse in Revy or something?
You were quick to suggest I ski in a Hawx. I’m curious what other low volume performance touring boots you would have in mind. Because the options are slim. Quattro is on my list but it didn’t exist when I got my boot and I’m sceptical about them so far. Also, I’d need a large punch at the back of my 5th met which would be limited by the carbon reinforcement.

This seems like a silly argument. Goldenbc's in zero g's which are the 2nd? 3rd? lowest volume touring boot on the market that actually skis decently. If he says it takes 9 tubes of cork to fill it out, I'd believe it. Fucking touring boots are all too damn wide and roomy.

Well I got all ready to order a pair of GFT’s and emailed them ahead of time.
Turns out they don’t play nice with the Hoji boots so it’s either new shells and $500 liners or back to the drawing board.
They work fine in the hoji, you just need the boot horn to get in.Quote:

So I picked up the Quattro xt on a whim as REI happened to have a used pair in my size. Best out of box fit I’ve had since the la sportiva spectre. Only issue is it feels like there still might be some room over the top of my toes…but nothing like the zgtp’s (or Cochise) where I was rocking back on my heels inside the boot in variable snow.
This thread has actually been very helpful as I loved my zip fits but found them too stiff for touring and was wondering if I could use the GFT to take up some room in touring boots (especially over the top of the forefoot). Sounds like that’s a big no and a higher volume intuition liner is still one of the only decent options in that regard?

When the venerable mercury liner was on it's way out I was starting to hurt my toes by curling them. Tightening the front buckle hurt my bunions. Full length hims hurt my instep. I fixed it by putting foam on top of the toes. GF complained about arch pain. I found it was caused by her curling her toes. Foam on top fixed it. I have not seen this done before, but in my limited experience it is very effective at improving fit without cramming the toes and instep with shims bellow.
Remove that lower honey comb reinforcement so it won’t catch on the Hoji lock. It makes a smooth rearward ROM too.Quote:
