I'm old enough to have done all my racing on 26", and skeptical enough to know that the bike industry's m.o. is to literally reinvent the wheel for profit.
Physics is physics. The fact that people even bother arguing about wheel size is silly. Ride some bikes, and choose the one that suits your riding best.

yeah 26 is less and less supported with tires also I think the designs/geometry have been replaced with something better, can you even buy a new 26er nowdays?
I have been trying to sell my 26" Cannondale Prophet with no luck cuz nobody wants them so I zapped a for sale sign to the top tube and ride it to the bar

There’s a healthy mix of carbon and aluminium in that vid. I’d say carbon can have issues with rock strikes or crashes into rocks more so than aluminium. I know of a few friends that are dealing with carbon frame breaks atm. Zero friends with aluminium frame issues.Quote:

Thanks for the info. We are making the move out of the Front Range to the mountains this fall and I am dipping my toes into the water so to speak of figuring out what kind of trail bike I would want, how much to spend, etc. Spent some time on a full suspension Giant this past weekend for an elk hunt and the full suspension definitely gave me more confidence as an old guy who hasn't ridden dirt since having a BMX bike in middle school.
I don’t know that it’s always true. For example: a lot of spends cranks, handlebars and stems are carbon....and they break a lot.
I’d actually trust a carbon frame before some carbon cranks....lookin at you RaceFace! And I still use my fifteen year old Deda Newton AL bar and stem....I’ve used it on three AL frames (cracked at weld) and one carbon frame.
I do agree that metal is better at impacts like rocks.

Giant is a good choice. They stand behind their product(lifetime warrantee), great price(biggest company in the world), and they just work. Guessing you’d probably look at a “trance”. If you’re new to the sport you’d probably want lbs support rather than buy an online bike so another check for giantQuote:
