I'm not a fair weather skier either. I enjoy the occasional spicy bit at Stevens but it's mostly to access a good 35° pitch of gladed trees or a little bowl. Not really the type that seeks out the super gnar. Give me a glade or two with a pillow popper here and there.

It seems to me that Schweitzer splits the difference between the large, long pitches of groomers and trees at Mission and the steeper tight trees and open bowls with a more type coastal snowfall like at Stevens. In a lot of ways that sounds pretty great. Plus 3000 acres that seem to be mostly skiable unlike Mission which I'd say you can only ski about 1000 acres of the 2000 they claim to have due to the patchy snowpack.

Fake news. Idaho's northern mountain has lots of acres, but most of them involve hiking out after the stream crossing. Some people say it's flat, but that's pretty optimistic--any run worth taking slopes up nicely on the way back to the lift. The fog is nice, though, makes you feel lonely.

Just check the Schweitzer ski team race schedule. If they have a race scheduled it will likely rain at some point.

That old double is on its last legs as a 49 year old Riblet. It's on its way to being replaced for next season.

As for checking the race team schedule, it's likely better to check your schedule as I would say you bring the rain with you. :)

Not exactly sure how I feel about the new lift layout.
It may save some pow over in Siberia/Wayne’s woods etc due to having to take two lifts back to the top at the expense of lakeside chutes area getting hammered.

Those two lifts to get back to Siberia will still be faster than Chair 6. Considering the line that develops on 6 on a pow day, the 13 minute ride, not including the geek-stops that always happen, the slow-downs caused by mechanical issues on that old chair, etc., it should be faster taking two lifts and should further conserve snow in Siberia. Also, not that many people really ski Lakeside proper. Most will take the new triple and head to the east with Whiplash being the first run to get hit. In my experience, everything from Misfortune and up toward the top doesn't really get hit too hard. It's above the ability levels of most skiers so usually stays pretty good for a longer period of time. Granted, it will all get skied out sooner than it does now but that will include being able to get five runs in an hour versus two or three as it now stands. You'll get your vertical, only quicker. Then you can start hitting Siberia or wherever and probably still have some good turns left.

So when's the best ski time to visit? Jan? Feb? Wife might have a work trip to Olympia in Mid-Jan; I'll tag along to hit up Crystal/Snoqualmie....also no reason not to extend my trip to check out Silweitzer49.

KQ - Speaking of Russ Vanderwilde, I was talking to a friend this weekend who had an ACL cadaver implant with him this past April. She's doing great with her PT and is feeling strong, etc. He told her no skiing this winter, which I was really surprised by. She's into rehab nearly 8 months and no skiing at all for a year? Seemed a bit overly cautious to me.

This thread was touted as being worth reading in the week in review. I am disappoint.
