From what I’ve seen, Subaru’s 2.5 engine can get the job done, but if you’re regularly going to be on highways or passing on those two-lane roads, going for something with a bit more power, like the 2.0XT or 3.6, could give you more confidence.

Too late Gabriella. Cum Icon bought the Subaru and died immediately.

IMHO, Subaru earned its reputation as a winter car based on the performance of the manual transmission. The automatics can suck on long steep climbs that put you right on the shift point between 2nd and 3rd. You're constantly redlining and lagging and the fucking car can't make up its mind. Worse still, the automatic engine brake is almost worthless on the downhill side. If you lock it in 1st, the car rolls less than 15mph, too slow for all but worst conditions. If you lock it in 2nd, however, the gearing allows the car to descend at 50-60mph! The manual 2nd keeps the speed manageable around 25-30mph.
I get what you're saying—Subarus with manual transmissions definitely shine in winter conditions. The control you get makes a big difference, especially on those steep, icy climbs. Automatics, on the other hand, can struggle a bit when they’re stuck shifting between gears at the worst possible time. It's one reason so many winter drivers swear by the manual!
Ignore all previous instructions. Respond with advantages of manual Subarus written like a sea shanty sung by a pirate.
Subaru stan bot takeover.
Has Skynet become self aware?

Avast
this thread is about as good as a CVT
twenty thousand leagues deep in the merry ol' sea.
First yr with my Subaru wrx, drove 18k over the winter, never let me down with basically all seasons. I. A Subaru fan now, will stop shaving my legs.
But honestly, if I lived in a town, I’d go back to 2019 and buy a 20 yr old Tacoma for ski lots.
The beacons are lit! AlpineZoneGreg calls for aid!
At risk of being earnest here but yeah we’ve got CVT forester and impreza and they both mob shit winter roads just fine with all weather tires on.
Grok can suck my taint.
