Congrats, Large!!!

Ridiculous fish man, congrats. There are guys that write for half a dozen fishing magazines that don’t have a fifty from the surf.
Also fished a lot this season. Average size was way up from previous years, not sure if that’s the slot limit working or if I’ve learned a couple things. PB 48’’ but probably not over 40lbs

Keeping with the shitty fishing pictures theme:
Best fish in my home waters, ~42’’ and fell for a Darter

Got my first False Albacore in Late September in Narragansett. I am recovering from Albie fever— it’s so visual, and challenging, and when you finally connect they just rip drag. This one fell for a topwater plug in the middle of a striper blitz.

Attachment 436871Pic doesn’t do it much justice, we were trying to rush and get her back in and it was kinda a tough spot to fumble around with a wet/foggy camera case. Got the tape on her and quick boga to weigh. 53” 54#. My only tap of the night hit a blurple swarter first cast after switching. Took solid 15 mins to get her in, assisted by a couple waves. Took as long to revive- knew she was ok as she kept a decent lock on my thumb and was moving the head.

This one is a rando pic of a hook that a monster slipped out of. Got it to the rock once, grabbed the leader and it took off. Got it back again within sight, it shook and turned and bent all 3 hooks on a vmc 4x treble. Looked upper 40# with a ton of girth. Attachment 436873sunset out fishing the beach.

Random 40# I had still in the reel. Got to a spot around 1:30am, dude was there packing up. Said he hadn’t got a hit. That fish hit my first cast after he left. Caught 6 fish on 10 casts, all over 25#
Attachment 436875 Sunrise. I’m no photog for sure but came out pretty cool.
The pic is kinda perfect though.
That 4X VMC is as worked as I’ve ever seen one. Must have been a beast. Do you think they aren’t as strong as they used to be? This guy I know who fishes hard seems to think that. Glide bait? I need to get some confidence with those.
Guess I gotta get some Swarters too.
Another couple pics of my best from the season, ~6pm in the middle of the summer. Got cartwheeled by a wave but held on to the fish as it still needed reviving.

oh how I miss them

The blurple swarter was a legit all star this summer. Dives a bit deeper than stated (down to 24") but its legit at night.
All 4 hooks on the VMC- 2 of them completely opened up and the other side bent in, toward the same direction. I've heard the VMC- even the 4x- have become a bit brittle lately. Many recommend the Mustad 5/0 or thereabouts.
Lots of glide baits once late august hits. Also had a lot of success with larger Dannys during mid summer when larger pogies were all over the south shore.
I posted these in the shitty picture thread, but that’s mostly fly/freshwater discussion. These were from back in July. Not quite New England, but damn close. Caught on circle hooks with live porgies.

Nice sunny day on the water Spanky! Just noticed the Star Tron hat.
Good to know about the Swarter, Tomo’s Tackle just started carrying them. I like everything I’ve used from Joebaggs, got my first Albie on one of his Peanut Resin jigs.
I have some of the Mustad 5x and they’re a nice hook that’s pretty cheap. They run about ~1.75x larger than the same size VMC 4x hooks and they’re a lot heavier even when they’re the same physical size. I can only use them on select plugs without affecting the action or float. Haven’t tried the new BKK or Tsunami Saltx hooks but they’re expensive. The Saltx are reportedly really light. Both are strong I’m sure.
Word. I got a bunch of Dannys and Gliders that I’ve gotta get more practice and confidence with. Thanks man.
This thread reminds me that I confied a couple stripers with a ton of herbs. It's sitting in my fridge in a clasp sealed jar. I ... should probably pull that out and check on it. It's been, um, 6 months. Um, there's a thread for that, I know. I'll breach both of them.
And the pmgear shirt did not go unnoticed. Nice dick tube too!
wow, that fish insane

Not NE, actually Virginia. 21" the other night on the kayak. Tossed back to catch next year.
Tried an hour at the wrong tide yesterday evening, had a follow and a bite nothing landed. Hearing it’s pretty on schedule maybe a bit larger in size coming north so far. Similar to last year actually
Way to get out and after it, guessing S Shore? I’d be thinking about a trip to SoCo Rhody if I didn’t have this cold going around. Seen bait stir around in Boston Harbor but I don’t think I saw any fish on them.
Just saw this thread was bumped and missed this back in December. If you’re talking about my pictures, those are three different fish. No time to take that many poses with one fish.
My uncle is adamant about getting the fish quickly back in the water. So much, that if there’s any delay in getting them out of the net or unhooked, “No time for pictures!l”

Got my first April striper to start the year. Forgot to check for lice on this one but based on a buddy’s results I think there was a mix of holdovers and fresh fish that might just be holdovers moving spot to spot.
Shit! Good work! Place looks kiiinda familiar…Gibbs??
Thanks man! Not that one, s0uth shore crik with a notable he rring run
Bite really picked up the last few days. First slot fish this morning (btw slot is likely shrinking to 28-31). But hearing BB is loaded with 26-32”.
Oof. NY slot is still 28-35”. And NJ is 1 fish at 28-38” and a second “bonus” at 24-28”.
I really don’t understand the state to state differences on a migratory fish. Then again, I also don’t get why commercial size limits (of almost any fish) are typically less restrictive than recreational (at least in NY).
