'14 NE thread

Gyro was flooded this spring and is a mess. I then went over to check out Fox park, it started out boring and not very obvious. Then I met a couple on the trail and the dood pointed me in the right general direction. After lots of climbing I found some technical single track. Then another biker 70 guy who cut the trails in Fox park and Gyro. He said he has given up on Gyro because it just all messed up every spring with all the flooding. He continues to cut trails and make improvements in Fox Park. I going to have to explore in there more it could easily take a full day.

Rode Franklin Falls on Saturday and they were raking out the trials, so smooth.

So I guess my gopro battery died and i didn't have it going for opening day at mtn creek so there's not many pics. I'll try and get some from my buddy who brought out his DSLR. Conditions were varied, with 5 inches of rain on weds/thurs portions were tacky and super fast as the day moved on and the newly built trails packed in, but other sections got blown out. Standing water made it impossible to clear the final jump on upper dominion. Salvation was prime with fresh lips and a rebuilt step down - no need to touch the brakes the whole way down on this now. Lower breakout was totally rebuilt, but pretty destroyed due to standing water.

The natural trails are in kinda rough shape, many of them look like they haven't been blown clear of leaves and several were very wet due to the rain

The lower mountain was riding real well in general. Alpine was the run of the day(just below the lift and pictured above was nearly perfect with no brake jack to speak of (at the start of the day at least) and some of the lower berms rebuilt braking was limited. Indycross, which im usually not a fan of was also riding real well.

Overall it was awesome to be riding lifts at the creek again, About 400 people showed up, but there was never a line. If you're near here, you owe it to yourself to get out.

^I wish I was young...too old to take a big hit on that stuff. Looks so damn fun though!

Measured my lunch ride and it's only 3.3 miles. I can add to it, but I get off single track for too long...but whatever. 2.8 until I start back tracking which is fine 'cause it rides a little different in reverse. Several more zones to add single track in the fall/winter/spring. Hopefully be up to around 5 miles which is more than enough for lunchtime rides.

Just barely spring at 1300 feet in the Taconics.

Trails are in pretty good shape. Looks like Fall out there.

After riding the FS on Sun and then the fatty yesterday I realized that the fatty definitely beats me up a little (maybe a lot) more than the FS. So yeah, I think I'm sold on the FS fatty. :biggrin:

I will wait a year or two for them to get it dialed in.

Planning on heading up to Vietnam saturday depending on the weather. Who's got route recommendations or wants to play tour guide for a morning spin. Beer will be provided.

It's okay.... great jumpy/park stuff. Meh singletrack. Would probably help if I knew it better, but it's such a damn maze.

PearlJam: If you feel like driving north a bit further I could give a Harold Parker or Lynn Woods tour on Saturday. Or even Needham, which would be a bit closer for you.

Its my brother's Birthday and that's where he wants to go (He wants to learn jumpy stuff). STAB would be way too much climbing for him. Hopefully he doesn't start this year with another broken rib. We like flowy jumpy bermy stuff with some rocks pepperd in for good fun. How are those other places?

Moving to Boston at the end of the year so looking for the straight skinny on riding. Signing up for the VT50 at the end of Sept. as well.

Showed Rog (everyone's favorite!) my local spot in Newington this AM. He was stoked with the trails...now I just need him to help build! He came in from the south and found another new section that I hadn't seen yet. The one other guy I met out there has been building a lot. So much more to go!

Starting to see more and more traffic which is so nice!

Lynn's a step up and above Fort Rock. Think less dirt, more rock.

Biking sold out in 23 minutes last year, you better be quick or do an ultra run.

A step up meaning more technical or more buff fun rock. Exeter wears on me a little at times...the Exeter side. The Newfields side is more dirt single track.

I would say a step up in technical, and also fun. If you can flow the lines, its a really awesome place. I get my confidence rocked there very easily compared to anywhere else. Knowing the lines makes a world of a difference, so I struggle as I don't ride there often.

Its definitely a "must-ride," place though.

Took an awesome road ride the other day on my favorite little loop across the route 4 bridge. Absolutely stellar weather right now.

Ha! Ya, it will be a perfect spot for you to do a lap. The other guy building out there is in Dover just over the bridge. Not much shovel work unfortunately as it's mostly compost material. Old woods! I so want to grab some dirt from all the road construction and get it out there...wishful thinking. Creating new trails amounts to clearing downed trees or building it up to go over, pruning, and raking to find firmer ground. Path of least resistance.

There are no trespassing signs (shhh!) but I'm going with its towards hunters...sounds good anyway. Been riding out there for years with no issues. I came out yesterday right as the police were driving by...I don't think they care. It is PDA land. I DEFINITELY will not ride out there when Obama or any other big shot flys into Pease as you are right on the runway.

Let me know and I'll show you around out there sometime...although, I only hit it on weekdays.

I wish I was just a bit closer to you Strawjack to ride at lunch. But coming from Stratham is too far away for my lunch break. Its hard enough to get a loop in at fort rock.

Weekdays can be ok. PM me with when you usually go out.

By the way, we should organize a Kingdom Trails trip at some point (or Millstone/Stowe/Kingdom) for the crew here.

Vietnam is the best (and the only) place in the area for that. That stuff is awesome, it's just everything else that is lacking.

Good to know that the window is that small. I'd heard that it was quick, but didn't realize it was that quick.

i'm still glowing from yesterday at Ascutney, clean and tacky.
new, perfectly 'timed' berm's, and bench work, everywhere!
the little ground flower's, in the grassy knoll. ten's of thousands, no lie.
the perfume smell in the air, was way stronger than the 'skunk' in my camelback.
place is way dialed in!
also purchased a VMBA membership, with STAB/Ascutney Trails http://ascutneytrails.com/ as my home chapter, dayglo green velcro with the logo, looks tight on my top tube.
