Had a great day Friday, but a little frustrating hearing about how it continued to snow in lcc with the northwest flow. Been in BCC twice now for days where it snows about 10-12 inches more throughout the day in LCC. Oh well, at least I don't have to deal with the traffic.
What traffic? LCC had none Friday. Smooth sailing. Left house at 830. There before 9. Lift lines were mostly non existent as well after the 1st lineup which was smaller than normal. Let's hope for a repeat this Friday too. Good skiing.Quote:

Crazy wind yesterday! A section of our fence in our back yard somehow got knocked down. Fortunately, I saw it before our dogs got a chance to go on a tour of the neighborhood.

took a walk to ski davenport early. saw 2-3" at 6, another 2-3" by 9 when exited solitude. nuking pretty good with stiff winds when we dropped in. snow a bit reactive but skied pretty well all things considered. damn, bird is reporting 11"...
Snowbird had a bad rumble crust under the pow, but it skied decent. Easy day to get hurt if you weren't paying attention.
Snowbirds marketing team would have you believe much different. I personally figured as much, but will say if Alta was open today I would've been there.Quote:

^ low vis all day except last 30 min imo caused pretty good leftovers.. its hammered but nothing like a copper lift after 30 min. seemed mostly boot to knee with some thigh deep pockets in mineral. baldy not running, in fact several lifts not running. I would hit that again tomorrow. but not for $89

Lots of other stuff too. Replace wildcat, Flora lift to eliminate the EBT. Public.comment period coming, but the feds gave the go ahead so I don't think anything SOC says will stop "progress". I'm really only against the wildcat replacement. A fast lift there won't be great.Quote:

Here is the article from the SL Tribune. While I understand the difficulty doing control work on Baldy I am not in favor of the tram. Hopefully they somehow limit skiers numbers. No EBT is great and provided they can do some terrain sculpting that allows a non stop East Baldy top to bottom that would be a nice run. IMO it currently is barely worth the hike. I understand SOC's concern but I don't see how the tram by itself will encourage more development in LCC. Lastly this is quite a laundry list, who knows what the timing will be, big money involved.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Federal officials are giving the go-ahead to a new master plan for a Utah ski area that includes a small tram, but environmentalists worry the changes will negatively impact local wetlands.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the U.S. Forest Service decision posted on Tuesday claims the new plan for the Alta Ski Area would not significantly impact the local environment.
But the environmental group Save Our Canyons disagrees. Executive director Carl Fisher worries that the proposed tram will lead to more development around Little Cottonwood Canyon, 30 miles southeast of Salt Lake City.
The new ski area plan would replace two ski lifts, expand a pair of restaurants and replace machinery to trigger controlled avalanches. It would not expand the size of the 1,800-acre resort.
A tram to the top of baldy? Seems like overkill
They need this, skiers in the modern age are not into dealing with shit like the high-t or subpar overpriced lodges, I’m looking at you Peruvian Lodge. That place is a dump. Time the top of the canyon catches up with the rest of the ski world. Alta has so much going for it, they have the best beginner terrain in Utah. Place is beautiful. It’s just really dated and tired looking. Goldminers should be leveled, place is so hideous looking. And it’s the worst ‘base lodge’, I’ve ever seen. It’s even worse than the K1 Lodge at Killington. That’s saying something. I’m glad they’re making changes. I was pleasantly surprised to see a huge crane up there this year. Good on the Snowpine for getting a foot up.

I think the tram to baldy will actually be better as long as they close hiking. You can control exactly how many skiers get up there. Say it's an 8 person like snowbasin. By the time the next 8 get up, the first 8 are down and you can stop the lift anytime you want to stop access. It will also allow them to likely get terrain like main Street open even if they don't plan to open ballroom/shoulder. I kinda like the tram idea.
