Vibes Abe, I am going thru the same w/ my dad right now. Couple days after labor day he collapsed, ended up in the hospital with sepsis and nearly died then.

They treated the sepsis but found he has metastatic melanoma in both lungs, 5cm tumor in the right and 13cm damn near the whole lung in the left. Oh and 3 lesions in the brain. The last 2 months have been really hard on my mom, he has needed a cane, full time O2, and he lost a good 20-30pounds. Was starting to speak slow and couldn't finish sentences, looked to be fading. He couldn't go up even to the Pass due to increased breathing issues.

Finally last week things turned a corner after the third or forth round of Keytruda, and after 3 days of treatment wife a "Gamma knife" to target the lesions in his brain. Color returned to his face, he is off the O2 and was sounding much more normal, massive turn around but he has a long way to go still.

And of course while that's going on my MIL's health declined and she passed from heart failure a few weeks ago. Worse still, my 62 yro SIL's dementia is now so severe she is going into a full-time care facility and she probably has 12-18months left. Been kind of hard to even think about ski season approaching.

Really sorry to hear that Mofro and Abraham. All you can do is support and try to help them keep flighting. I genuinely hope things get better for you both and your loved ones.

Sorry to hear about your dads. Mine succumbed to cancer this summer, which was discovered when he was in the hospital for pneumonia. He was 91 and chose not to treat it. It was sad watching him waste away. Fortunately the end came relatively quickly and he got to spend most of his final days at the family lake cabin.

Last night a college friend passed away. She had battled cancer for 7 or 8 years but had gone on a steep decline the past month. RIP Laurel. [emoji26]

Taking nothing away from these tragic stories, but cancer also snagged my wonderful neighbor last week. She had been battling brain cancer for FIFTEEN YEARS. She was totally bedridden for the last 3 and her frail husband had to manage everything including using a lift to get her on the toilet. If she fell, he’d call me to help her because he was too weak. This lady was once a great mind, a true scholar, and here she is half naked with a relative stranger helping pull her off a bathroom floor.

My neighbor asked me to come over last week and I expected the same situation. Instead, she had just passed and he was by her bed when I came in. He honestly didn’t know what to do or who to call.

I hate to say that the yoke is released from this fellow and his wife. I had heard he was a sculptor and for the first time in my three years here, I saw him building a sculpture on the side of his house yesterday. Maybe in remembrance of her or maybe just to create, anything, once again. RIP Cathy.

A good friend of mine just had his FIL come thru brain cancer surgery successfully. He will not be able to drive his hot rod any more but i would say its not a bad trade.

I’m here just to say fuck cancer.

That, and I hope for peace for everyone here.

Just got my essentially 1 year post chemo (Hodgkins Lymphoma) scan and it was all clear. Sat in the ski shop parking lot hitting refresh on the patient portal app until my results showed up, then promptly walked in the ski shop and bought new boots/bindings/skis (first resort set up in 30 years). Looking forward to the ski season, last year I was pretty weak from chemo.

Thanks to all the maggots who offered encouragement and free lift tickets over the past year. It's been a rollercoaster.

Was so anxious for the last couple months leading up to today, but now a sigh of relief before hopefully a great winter skiing with my best friend, my son.

What a great feeling for you! Congrats and enjoy your season with your son. My son's first day back on the slopes with me was a special, special day.

Kid is 12 and a solid skier, can ski anything. I’m 51 and slowing down. I told him I’m kicking his ass this year skiing. It’s my last chance to do so as I teeter towards geriatric and he gets stronger. But it’s also my first year on resort gear, I’ve been on two buckle boots and carbon fiber skis/race bindings every year I’ve skied with him. Not anymore punk!

I’m so excited for this winter.

That's awesome TH, congrats! I was a click away from a new bike toward the end of chemo (on the morning before a biopsy). You didn't say you were waiting to decide whether to go in, but that's for sure where I was: "is life long enough to justify this purchase?" FKNA
