Meatdrink9 has lined up Modest Mouse and Khruangbin as the first two acts announced for Ogden Twilight this summer, batting .1000 thus far!
Cheap Trick cancelled their Reno date last Friday due to weather.
Me’n Vets are headed to Kraftwerk (if they don’t cancel) in April.
Still eyeing Cypress Hill in April and just learned Buckethead is playing in Crystal Bay this week…
We have tix for KW and CH. Buckethead at CB would be tight but I am headed down to Mammoth in a few minutes.
Looks like I am going to BH @ CBC with TheFrush tonight…
Got Modest Mouse tix for Dillon Amphitheater, not their biggest fan but looking forward to it. Also seeing Ministry at Mission ball room. Debating Metallica at mile high for one or two nights. Would be fun to see Pantera or Limp Bizkit too.
^yell Cowboy Dan really loud until they play it
I caught a couple of cool shows in Boulder the last week. First up was MJ Lenderman. I've always liked his guitar work (love Wednesday) but his voice kinda bugged me. Was fantastic live and I got over the voice issue. [emoji1] The band was interesting, each had a unique style. Will definitely see him again, but probably be in a bigger venue next time.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...2f08cd443e.jpg

Next was Pokey LaFarge. I've always liked his old timey sound and was curious what the crowd and band would be like. When we got there the bouncer told us we were the youngest people in the venue (we are mid 50s). Definitely a lot of grey hairs, but a younger crowd filled in when the headliner started.
I was a little surprised at how dynamic Pokey and his band were (considering his recorded music is pretty mellow)! They put on a great show, Pokey is a true entertainer and the band sounded much bigger than a 5 piece. The live show played to the younger audience, but the older folks were eating it up as well. Great show!

Ministry is playing stuff from With Sympathy, Twitch, and the Wax Trax years. I saw their set of this material at Cruel World last year, and it was highly enjoyable if that era of early Ministry appeals to you. If you're looking for the later more metal sounding stuff, it's pretty different. (Say, Filth Pig and later.)
MM is ok. I lived in WA back when they were first getting popular in that region I guess. They were a band you could listen to with some chicks and not totally hate. Kinda like Death Cab, who was also from that region. Some chick I dated burned me a CD with both bands on it and built to spill. I liked Built to Spill the most.
Anyway. Yeah, ministry will be their old stuff. Cool with me. Never been a massive fan of them either but their more metal stuff is definitely what I listen to while rallying through the woods on my dirtbike. Fun fact: Al Jourgensen used to live in Breckenridge growing up.
Chuck Prophet was my favorite show so far this winter, hes still on tour I think. Very worthwhile and a lot of fun.
I've got tickets for a few things the next few months: Elephant Revival at the mission ballroom next month, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings in June at Chautauqua, and Rhiannon Giddens at Chautauqua in July.
I'm pretty excited to see "The Australian Pink Floyd" up here in Dillon. Sounds like they put on a pretty good show.
Wife loves Elvis Costello and got tickets at the Vilar Theater in Beaver Creek.
Where do we stay and eat?
Beaver Creek Lodge - easy access to venue
creekside rooms have views of where the tour busses unload, if that matters
The Beta Band have reunited for a fall tour…

A worthwhile pull I made last night from a coffee place: https://archive.org/details/valley-g...202025-flac-24
Shit, Shred, didn't see your post. I tried to quote but that didn't work. PM me and I can 411 you at the very least.
can't recall the last time I posted due to 502 Bad Gateway BS, but The Frush and I saw Buckethead in late February at CBC in Crystal Bay, NV.
Show was shredderiffic.
Last Friday me'n Vets went and caught Kraftwerk at GSR in Reno.
The band strode onstage looking like Tron's long lost relatives and delivered a 90-minute non-stop set of electronic bliss and cool visual enhancement.
Great sound, too,
(I'd include pix, but that function ain't working for me).
Just score a ticket to see Larkin Poe next week,
And got Ty Segall acoustic the week after.
other shows on my radar:
Tropa Magica
Sunny Day Real Estate
Black Rebel Motor Cycle Club
Femi Kuti
Elbow
and I already have tix for Kneecap and Beta Band, both not until October.
Dook: dm me if you want me to upload the audio from Kraftwerk's Coachella set. I'm guessing it is the same set you heard.
Caught Larkin Poe on Tuesday. Those gals rip. Megan Lovell, who plays lap steel, is definitely influenced by Brian May. Her sister, who shreds regular guitar, sounds like Joe Perry is one of her muses. Anyway, I would highly recommend their live show as it’s super energetic and guitar heavy.
My daughter is going to shoot pics of Larkin Poe on Friday. I knew she was going to see someone and just looked up larkin becuase it sounded like someone she would like and realized the connection. I’ll report her report if the gateway and box fan cooperate lol
Saw a guy name Sam Fender at the Fox in Oakland a couple weekends ago by random chance and a free ticket. Had never heard of the guy but apparently a lot of others had because it was packed and he owned the crowd. Tight set and sounded great. He played at Coachella the next day so I’m guessing he is about to have a moment. Good show for sure
The videos of L/P studio stuff, as collected on their website, are pretty slick.
But live they just deliver crushing guitar grit like a well-oiled dive bar band with serious chops.
They do have a bluegrass pedigree, so they did some acoustic songs, but mostly they just unleash the electric shred.
As stated above, I heard elements of Queen and Aerosmith in their overall sound, but they most often get compared to The Allman Bros…
Regardless, if you dig heavy OG guitar driven rawk, these gals bring the noise.
Peep the second track especially (though the whole show is on fire):
Also, I’m old and should get some earplugs for these shows even though it prob too late from the sabbath infused damage of my youth. What’s your preferred ear saving device that won’t break the bank?
I just use the free foam ones they give out at the Belly Up.
Sometimes I just use my Beats ear buds at other shows.
Still kills me to see little kids without ear protection.
Daaaaang! Cypress Hill, Atmosphere, Lupe Fiasco, and Pharcyde just announced a show at Dillon Amp. Got tix. Now I'm going to 5 shows at my local venue this summer. A record for me. Stoked on this show especially.
I like Vibes High Fidelity unless its really loud. They don't muffle the sound quality. Amazon.com: VIBES High Fidelity Concert Ear Plugs - Reusable Noise Reduction Earplugs for Loud Music, Musicians, Raves, Noise Sensitivity, Motorcycles, Airplanes, and Work - Clear : Health & Household
If its a really loud show, I use EarPeace but the SQ is defnitely not as good. Amazon.com: EarPeace Music - Concert Ear Plugs - Earplugs For Noise Reduction up to 26dB - High Fidelity Ear Plugs for Concerts, Musicians and Live Events - Reusable Earplugs - Includes 3 Filter Sets and Case : Health & Household
The foam ones work to protect but SQ is terrible.
re: Ear Protection
I use the foam ones from CVS with the 33db rating. I have found it all depends on the venue and their acoustics and the sound people.
Last two shows I've gone to--Kraftwerk at GSR Reno and Larkin Poe at Grass Valley Cultural Center--both had impeccable sound and the foam plugs worked/sounded fine with no loss of sound quality that I could tell.
Over the years these plugs have provided clean sound to my ears at venues ranging from The Holland Project in Reno (about 100 capacity) to The Fox Theatre in Oakland (approx 3000 capacity)
But I went to a Soul Coughing show last spring at The Fillmore in SF and the sound sucked. Even with plugs in it was still muddy and muffled (sounded the same without plugs, just louder).
So I think it depends a great deal on the venue, their system, and the sound person. I hadn't been to a Fillmore gig in about 15 years, but never remember the sound being so bad...
Most of my hardcore live music going buddies (3-5 shows a week) have the custom ones you get from a physician, the ones that are molded to your ears. Those are supposedly the best, but they require a doctor visit and $$$.
Saw Sturgill in Sac a couple night ago. We were on the rail which made a great show a millioner time more betterer. Morrissey tomorrow. Sierra Ferrell in Sac on Sunday.
Dook, we were at the Kraftwerk show also. Enjoyable. Also saw Meshuggah/Cannibal Corpse and the Cypress Hill show. Meshuggah was obviously loud. I don't wear ear pro ever but sometimes finger plug to hear specific stuff and talking.
