Firewood processed through 2025/2026! That’s amazing!
My woodshed is partially deconstructed and empty. I have multiple piles of bucked and split wood mostly covered in tarps. I think it may stay that way this winter cuz the weather just got good! It snowed down to 2500 feet last night and consistent wet weather is forecasted for a week. Wahoo!
I’ll probably be cutting wood all winter with continual thinning and setting up for little broadcast burns on our property.
That is always the plan in my mind anyway. One bay of wood shed is empty in spring then fill it up that year so whole shed is full so 4 years worth. Then everything has time to dry and I don't have spilt so much if some of it is bucked green. This year it didn't quite work out has had 2 cords of pretty crappy wood left. So had to cramp in other bay and some into other shed.
Though I have to shout out to Mrs DougW who did almost all of the trailer loading and pushed to get that last 1 1/2 next door.
Borrowed my neighbor's electric splitter this morning Attachment 434791
Cut, hauled, split, and stacked 3 full cords for this winter season.
Thanks for the help and advice, mags.
Took advantage of the neglected Xmas tree farm someone planted on our property 30+ years ago

Just got a new-to-me MS362. Thing is in fantastic shape except one of the cover screws and pins are missing. Any hints/tips/tricks for repairing this? Looks like the pin sheared out and the housing is slightly damaged but should be repairable I believe with some epoxy and a new pin (have to punch the remainder of the old pin out). From the cleanliness of the interior, I don't think it has any impact but this sort of thing will gnaw away at me. I can also just zap-strap it shut so that it's tightly locked down but would prefer a new pin and screw if possible.
What is should look like:

I think your idea of a bolt, nut and red loctite seems the simplest solution. Not sure how well a pin would hold with the crack, but I am far from a mechanic.
looks to me like the pin was also holding in a sleeve, maybe an SS nut & bolt would work?
I think you want another sleeve/ collar in that hole ?
No specific solution from me, but suggest using a locking washer and vibratite/locktite if you go that route.
Have fun with the ms362!
Now that my fouled seal with my ms361 is replaced and the saw’s well tuned, the saw has been great!

On your wood? Seems kind of keeperish. Congrats.
she’s a keeper alright
split the stuff that was too large for the stove, then ran all the stuff that was too long through her chopsaw
she almost filled the woodshed

Oak is going to take a while to dry out in there
it’s dry
thanks Dad
Our climate is not that of Maine or NE, it often doesn’t rain all summer. Inside that shed or not it will have many days of 80+ degrees and <20% humidity. I was shocked that split oak here could be close to completely dry after 1 summer. Although where I am it is hotter and drier.
Around here lots of folks don’t like oak because it takes two seasons stacked in the sun with a good breeze to dry. My experience emptying the woodshed of the back row was that even after six years the wood had not dried anymore than the day I put it in there. Glad it works for you Mike.
Not sure how the wood will dry this year. So far 9/10 days have been rain, fog or overcast.
it’s a little drier in California than Maine
no hard feelings cat - I’m just always amazed at how many people here have tried to advise me about seasoning wood - I’ve been cutting wood since I was a wee lad and I know how to deal with it on a long term basis
girlio had a full woodshed of seasoned oak, pine, and cedar last winter and we used a lot and still had 3 cords of oak left over - all I did was move the oak all to one side of the shed it was already in - the new pine and cedar is ready to go
her woodstove was fucked up when I started using it - I replaced the gaskets and she says it works better than it ever did before
