Severe pain following repositioning of the brace?
I found this forum in the wee hours this morning while trying to figure out if the severe pain in my leg was due to a clot forming or because they had repositioned my brace yesterday to 30" to allow some bend in my knee, I believe it was the latter! I am two and a half weeks post surgery following a skiing accident in Utah on the 13th of February. I fractured my TP and Fibula, but the TP was a closed fracture and the bone was pretty much shattered.. I elected to return to DC to have surgery here and my surgeon and his team seem to have done a pretty good job. I have experienced what I expected pain wise pre and post surgery, but have been trying to reduce the pain medications over the last week. I started out on Oxycodon and then Hydromorphine straight after surgery for about five days and then back to Hydrocodon and Celebrex. For the last few days I am only taking Hydrocodon at night and a muscle relaxant and Advil during the day and was doing okay with that, until last night - For the first two weeks post op, the leg was kept straight and elevated. I have seen my Orthopod twice in his offices since I left the hospital and yesterday I had the staples removed and they repositioned the flex on the brace.. I was fine with the discomfort and the aches which I presumed to be normal - that is until about 2 a.m. this morning when I woke up in extreme pain in my knee that was radiating up into my quads. It became worse as I moved and when I sat on the side of the bed and reached for my crutches, the pain was so intense I passed out.. My husband was sleeping in with one of the kids , but woke up when heard me, luckily I passed out on the side of the bed and didn't hit the floor but cleared the bedside table of the water jug and glass. Has anyone experienced this sort of reaction to repositioning? I have read a fair amount of posts up here but didn't come across anything specifically related to repositioning of the cast?

Type ll. lateral TPF. ORIF on 12-3-12 with Plate and 8 screws and grafting and torn meniscus.
Declared myself FWB on April 4th. ranging -3 to 160 actively. Used a cane for the first day but was not impressed so i ditched it and walked to the gate and back, felt so good decided to climb the staircase (3x) since then, activities have included a 2 mile bike-ride to the river and back (where i won a bet that i couldn't cross the volley ball court sand) and walking a couple miles down the beach yesterday. Going back to climbing this week. think i'll do a cartwheel next week. Oh yeah..it is ON! There is life after TPF!....
