Beartrap and the crest are both in amazing shape. I have never seen the entrance so relatively grippy, and the flowers are 5 stars. TBatts white bus to purple bus move from the canyons is perfect.

Unless the buss already has bikes on it. I’ve heard they no longer let you take bikes on board?
From Canyons to Old Town the bike rack was empty, but my bike didn't fit on it (they have some older ones that dont take wider tires/modern wheelbases), and the driver let me come on board with it. For the #9 bus to the Montage the driver said it was a six bike max, three bikes on the rack (Empire bus had the newer better rack), three inside. He turned away the seventh guy.
On the topic of bikes on busses, I was thinking about using the PC - SLC connect bus to ride from Millcreek to Kimball Junction, then riding up through canyons and back down Millcreek this evening. If the bike racks are full on that one will they let you take bikes onboard?
Used the PC -SLC connect UTA rt 902 bus yesterday, awesome MTB shuttle. $5 for an empty, air conditioned bus from Olympus Cove to Jeremy Ranch, then it goes to Kimball. Runs every 90 minutes all day, weekdays only. Driver told us the route will be discontinued starting August 18
RA sorry we didn't link up.
Stoplight in LCC absolutely fucked me. The two in BCC didn't help, either.
Hour and 40 mins from Alta to Guardsman last night. Took longer to get there than the ride from Crest to Mill D did.
bummer about the fate of 902. try this circuit (or customize it) before august 18.
-download this app https://highvalleytransit.org/micro/ (micro shuttles are free)
-catch 902 at Oly Cove -> KJ or JR transfer
-as the 902 crests parley summit, fire up app and request Micro shuttle PU at KJ or JR transfer
-quick micro shuttle up to top of Matterhorn Terrace (summit park), Over Easy TH.
-rip down trails No Worries -> A Toll New World -> Arcylon, lap (or two) Arcylon, then out Gorgoza Park trail.
-10mins out before hitting pavement, schedule micro shuttle PU at woodward or O'shucks (after refuel, cold beer)
( or maybe coast over to East Canyon Creek TH from Gorgoza Park TH and rip a coupla laps in Bobs Basin DH park, exit out Bad Apple TH where micro shuttle PU awaits.)
-quick micro shuttle over to Rob's TH (Bear Hollow DR)
-climb up Rob's, traverse out Olympic cuttoff, then rip down Moose Puddle -> BLT -> BYOB -> KJ.
-Refuel, cold beer in KJ
-micro shuttle back up to Rob's TH
-climb up Robs to MM to Ridge Connector
-coast down Millcreek trail system back to Oly Cove.
not as complicated as is sounds. may not be your style, but its a nice reprieve from hammering out long dusty climbs, road riding, avoiding PC/DV crowds during the long hot dog days of summer here in the wasatch
Do the micro shuttles have bike racks? How many can they usually fit?
yes, micro shuttles have rear hitch mount rack, four bike max
Anyone here on the Ryobi plan? I need this gone. Works fine. Free.99

Duplicate post… joke’s on me
I've been picking brains in the main Wasatch ski thread re a family trip next week for a wedding then just hanging around northern UT. Want to do some riding with the 10 yo and probably the wife while the little one is chilling with the in laws. We are staying at Solitude for the wedding but have a car and can move around. Any recommendation on really beginner friendly rides and rentals in the area? Would love to be able to tackle both some regular singletrack and some beginner lift served. I see Soli biking is open now ,how is that? Better to go across Guardsman to the PC side? We are also going to be up by the Logan / Bear Lake area for a day or 2 at some point. Any and all tips appreciated.

Solitude isn’t great for beginner riding other than some berms around the link lift. The lift served would not be very fun for that skill level. I’d head over towards deer valley, park by the montage and ride mid mountain to empire link, then back up to the car. If you ride the lift at PC, Mojave to CMG or spiro is a decent option. If you can have somebody drop you on guardsman, pinecone-spiro is a great long flowy downhill.
Up by Bear Lake, stump hollow is a super fun, relatively beginner out and back.
Only true beginner trail that's lift served on the PC side is Holy Roller. There's also Ripple on the bottom half of the mountain which for some reason I can't remember ever riding or knowing about. You can rent bikes at the DV base and get tips. Solitude - haven't been there for a long time, I don't remember it being beginner friendly but I could be wrong.
Park City has Jennis but I'm not sure I'd bring a true beginner down it, like a 10 year old or wife who doesn't road bike or trail run etc.
Trailside park is great for true beginners. Dad can do harder laps after showing the 10 year old around the easy parts.
He said "really beginner friendly which is not subjective, and alluded it's a wife or 10 year old. Sorry, it's just simply bad advice without thinking it through. You'd send a 10 year old or a newb wife down a black dimaond Scottys, then up Puke hill (hey push your bike up a REAL STEEP road, kid, in the sun!!!) and down pinecone? How many times will that kid be passed by endurobros? Isn't that a 3000' descent? And how many times will they be passed on CMG and Mojave? Beginners don't belong with experts. Experts fucking fly down those trails. Never mind if the newb can't figure out washed out corners or rock areas (you know that steep red rock section on CMG?) or anything like that. IMO your advice is pretty bad. I'd take a coordinated skier or trail runner down those trails for the first time, but I'd probably be nice and warm them up on easier trails first though and see how they do.
And don't go to Trailside when's it 90 duh, it's easy to go in the morning.
Easy decision ...go to Deer Valley you'll have a good time...Holly roller and Ripple would be good for the kid and wife. maybe you could try Sunset and Deercrest with them too? if your wife and kid wanna take a break you could sneak off and ride some of the other stuff. If ya wanna do some pedal stuff could loop in Bowhunter and MM
Thanks for the tips. Definitely going to do deer valley. Turns out all the lift served activities at Soli and Brighton are closed this upcoming weekend for some archery event , so that's out anyway
Whatever you do, don’t go to Snowbasin. The trails up there absolutely blow beyond description.
Rode Evil Empire on Saturday. Still lots of snow on the 9k trail.

Also, if anyone lost one of these Wolf tooth tools on the Mid mountain trail on Saturday, PM me.

For anything off the gondola, I wholeheartedly concur. Unless you like loose, rocky, and no trail maintenance performed since the second Bush administration. There are some great XC trails on and near the resort, but if you are looking for beginner fun off the gondola, go for a hike instead.
Actually prefer interesting rolling XC trails to lift served (I know, masochist PA riders ) but will be likely in the DV area for this trip .
Speaking of which, I'm guessing for liability reasons , there are no bike rental places that will allow or have a Shotgun seat? My younger daughter loves ours for mild singletrack trails.

Man you aren't kidding. I'd say 10% of the lift accessed trail in the resort is decent to good. And that 10% doesn't come concurrently, it's spread out between the sections of shin deep moon dust, loose baby head rocks and poorly designed switchbacks. But....the good news is if you ride that stuff after work when the lifts are closed it's blissfully crowd free. Sardine will be jam packed with 500 HS racers and their 400 chaperones and you'll wonder if the world has ended by the time you get to the Strawberry platform.
Might be easer to just rent bikes at solitude regardless.
10 year old can be a roll of the dice. If they don’t close the one little beginner run under link, you could probably bike two laps and then just dink around the village, ride around the duck pond at Apex.
Ride up and down that cabin road into silver fork. (church rd behind eagle lift)
The very bottom of Silver fork trails is beginner once on dirt, bank a left at the fork a few hundred yards in vs the more obvious right and turn around when tired.
Just watch out because it can be a high-speed exit. Just lead and drop a shoulder to protect family vs kid getting smoked by enduro guy.
Supper beginner day with a bit of scenic driving that is polar opposite of resort hubbub, less confusing and easy parking is slate creek https://www.trailforks.com/trails/sl...-trail-434268/ Start with ponderosa Green DH and go on from that depending on mood. If one lap was enough, you could milk it across the road and play in the river.
On the way out you could have lunch in Kamas and then do a lap or two at Oakley park https://www.trailforks.com/trails/buckaroo-144814/ and then head back. Probably a solid ½ family day with an early start, up and over guardsman twice might take longer then I think.
Supper beginner stuff in that area is also https://www.trailforks.com/trails/franson-lane-access/ and https://www.trailforks.com/trails/stevens-grove/ More small-town mom and pop vibe for the last two. Order of links is order of good to less.
no clue on Shotgun seat
Awesome . Thinking will do a day of lift served at Deer Valley (the boy is progressing quickly on singletrack around here ) and then maybe rent bikes another day at Soli the morning of the wedding or the morning after and just hit some of those XC trails.

. That was a more beginner suggestion to offset some advanced beginner suggestions. Probably appropriate for 8-11 year old beginners with options for mom/dad/dog walk around stuff to keep younger kids occupied. Every link but Oakley park has streams that can keep little ones or dogs wet and occupied. Oakley and slate are the only links that have extra for dad or mom rides while the other baby sits.
So like, anyone ride lower west facing foot hills after work today? Power to you if so.
My wife rode with a true beginner at DV yesterday and reminded me that the top of holy roller is used to access a bunch of trails which means there are some fast riders on it. They will be patient with beginners but if the son can do berms, even slowly, it would be less stressful. Start with Ripple and graduate to holly roller if you don’t think he’s ready.
Tried (and failed) to escape the heat in the Uintas over the weekend by continuing my exploration of the Weber canyons side of things.
I slogged to Smith Morehouse on gravel:

then up nasty blown out ATV roads to Mud Flats. Some pleasant meadows and prime beaver habitat on the way there:

Mud flats has great view of the range, some quality camping spots, and I'm sure great fun to be had on a dirt bike/ATV which unfortunately translates to blown out trails with inches of moondust and loose churned out rocks all over (no pics of that, I was too mad about it):

Not shown: the cattle trough that allowed me to filter water and not die of heat stroke.
The downhill involved a mile of riding completely off trail followed by 3 miles/2500' of what could be the best singletrack I've ridden up there, if it were de-bushed that is. In its current state it's slow going with no line of sight and a bit of overgrowth which kept me on my toes. Quite a bit of deadfall as well (a fact of life in these parts) and some difficulties navigating the maze of trails with connectors that looked like this:
Attachment 465255
Last week was Erikson lakes for some of the best riding I've done up there (techier and steeper than Shingle Creek). Lots of heinous deadfall, some sketchy creek crossings, and I arrived at the lake at the same time as a huge wind burst from an angry Tstorm. I watched a mature dead pine crash across the trail 50' in front of me and hightailed it out of there before another one took me out so no pics of the down but it was QUALITY!
The price of admission:
Attachment 465256
1:45 hours to cover the last 2.7 miles. Once the FS clears this section it will still be heinous but at least won't require lifting the bike over 1000 trees.
If anyone's motivated I want to run a shuttle from Bald Mtn or Pass Lake down the East or middle fork of the Weber later this summer. Guaranteed adventure and suffering to be had, I hear the trail is near impossible to follow in a bunch of spots.
Uninformed bike rental question. If we rent bikes at DV for the day, do they come with SPD. clips or flat pedals. The wife and kid ride flats, but I always ride clipless since my 16 yo road weenie days back in the Jurassic era. Also not sure what to pack shoe wise .
Flats, guaranteed.
Thanks. Got no flat shoes so touron dork w sneakers or hiking shoes for me :(
