I also don't take the BGTs when I'm planning to ski more firm snow than 3D snow (I take the Woods Tours). But the BGT handles those conditions *fine*, it will get you down them and into the good snow that you brought them for. A few turns on a firm entrance into a long run of 3D snow? Sure, BGT. A long couloir of mostly firm snow with maybe some soft snow in the apron? Woods.

I’d actually go as far to say that a BG RES makes the tip catchy in semi crusty/windfuck a whole lot more manageable than a standard sidecut ski. Loved my Steeple 102’s for this (RIP).

All this Steeple talk feels very relevant since I recently pulled my 2015 102s out for a rip and once again fell in love with the versatility. Even after 250+ days they are still awesome. They've got 2.5 mounts and I decided today to see if I could find some room for another mount. I think I can sneak in a MTN so I am going to pull some binders off my QST 106's that I never really jived with and try to find the magic off these skis once again.

A few things I noticed today:
First, I actually have 189cm Steeple 102s. I swore they were 184s but I've hardly skied them for the past three seasons and never mounted them myself (sacrilegious I know... but I didn't have a shop space or tools any of the times I needed to mount these). I remember thinking, "damn these are long for 184s," but shrugged it off since I liked them so much lol. Second, one ski has lost (or gained) around .5cms of tip rocker over the years. The contact point hasn't changed, but one ski has more rocker when measured tip to ground. I doubt that will really do much to the way they ski but I guess we'll see. Third, they flex very differently compared to other tour ON3Ps I've seen come through my shop recently. I'm guessing that lines up with the idea of the thinner core with standard base/edges that which was the original "tour" profile vs. the newer core from today. Fourth, they weigh ~2050 grams, so significantly heavier than the new tour ON3Ps. They really fit better into light inbounds category rather than touring specific. Anyone looking for one of the new touring skis that will perform like their old Steeples should be considering a softer flexing inbound layup (50/50?) vs the tour layup.

EDIT: did a deep dive into my email and I did order 184cms! I even have a conversation with the factory talking about adding extra carbon to my 184s so they would ski a little longer. I can't believe I never checked the length before and all these years thought they were 184 lol

My Steeple 102s are gathering dust in the basement. All this talk makes me want to put bindings back on them and put them back in service.

I havent compared the splay between one ski and the other on my 102 steeples. They definitely gave more splay than my asym bg 116 and my bgt 110 and i think more than my 108 steeple had as well. My green/white 102's are a few years older. I believe thats when the bg's were softer and had more splay. A buddy picked up a bg in that vintage and theyre his cold dead hands ski now. Some orange and blue/grey i think on the topsheet

I have a BG 110 50/50 - compared to my BG 116T its definitely more damp. Its more plastic and edge material, and there is a good durability argument to be made for some. I did manage a big shot in a tour layup ski this year off something that wouldnt have coreshotted a standard base. The 50/50 layup feels noticeably more like the stock version vs a tour layup to me, more like a 35/65 Tour/Stock if I was just going off "feel of skiing". I'd almost say its a snowpack decision - if you will be riding lots of rocks and know how to light a ptex candle, go 50/50, its worth it on the uphill. If you dont demolish a pair of skis every season, try out a Tour version

3) You got it, new core and edge/base
4) The Steeple series was more of a thinned out standard layup. I would imagine but I dont have the data that the new 50/50's would come in lighter for a similar shape/size. There maybe even some grams shavings by going 50/50 if you want to make a something in custom thats closest to a Steeple. 50/50 with a layer of carbon might be a fun ski.

Thanks for all the great discussion and comparisons of the various touring iterations/options. It sounds like the current tour core is very good, but isn’t crafted from ground unicorn horn, so it can’t magically ski exactly the same as a heavier build. It also sounds like the dialled shapes that we know and love translate well across the various builds. We’re pretty damn fortunate to be able to select the shape we like and then dial in weight/dampness according to our intended use. I’ll probably try to pull weight out of my boots next, but it’s good to know that folks who have skied regular BGs and Steeples are stoked on the current touring build.

Steeples 102s mounted and ready once again!

Can’t believe I managed to fit in another mount with two pivot and the original dynafit beast in there but with epoxy and wood dowels anything goes! So psyched to get some spring turns on my old sticks once again. Interesting that the camber is all but gone, I think I like it that way personally.

I would also love to try the new jeff offerings. I think I have evolved into a jeff skier more so than a woodsman - but alas, cannot afford to order some sadly.

And man oh man I am looking forward to whatever Iggy has in store for us for 23/24 - new graphics and design tweaks alike!

Tuesday’s great, planning to skin up Vista Ridge that day w/ some friends.

I can’t wait to get out on them, might get enough snow by next weekend to justify taking them out too.

Woodsman 110 vs nomad 105. Would be 191 or 187. Anyone have thoughts? I haven’t been on either but want to pick one up as east coast powder ski and travel ski for trips west. Hard to find info on the new woodsman 110.

Unless Icelantic has changed the Nomad substantially, the Woodsman is quite a bit stiffer and has a longer turn radius than the Nomad. The Nomad is closer to a Jeffery than a Woodsman IMO. I also find ON3P's layups to both have more pop and be more damp through chop, especially at speed. The Nomad is an extremely accessible ski and is very easy to noodle around in the trees at low speeds.

Anyone have a comparo on WD110 to Praxis MVP 108?
