Agree with CDOT plowing...even this morning at 11am, the tunnel to Copper was icy and snowpacked. It doesn't bother me but traffic was slooooow because of the Jettas or Accords with no snow tires. It seems they could do a better job...more plows, better de-icing, clear the right lane better so morons don't stay in the left.Quote:

It always seems to me that the iciest roads are early and late season, when (I assume) the roads are warmer and the snow melts/freezes a lot quicker.
What does an icy place like New England do? Do they treat their roads better?

On Saturday we left my house at 2:30am, got to berthoud pass at 3:54, the drive up was pretty smooth, roads were a little snowy so we did about 45/50mph most of the way. Skied BP from about 4:30 - 9 and headed home, massive shit show heading west bound through Idaho springs to floyd hill. The crowds and traffic are avoidable if you know how to do it. BP was epic, great snow for November.
Living in the front range is sweet. When I'm not traveling for work I can see snowcapped mountains from my office window and when I want to be a badass and ski "backcountry" I can leave at 2:30 AM to avoid the crowds. Some coworkers heard that I'm a skier so they invited me to see the new Warren Miller movie.
