The Fever vs. the Mystics was the highest-attended WNBA game since 2007, with 20,333. Both teams had a combined record of 3-20 coming into the matchup, and they still shattered records. There are few forces in women’s sports that are drawing eyeballs quite like Caitlin Clark.
Butts in seats is always a good thing, and Caitlin had a good game, but come on, the Fever beat the worst team in the WNBA by a whopping 2 points. Novelty wears off quickly. I predict a long road of suffering, but hopefully a blossoming of epic proportions. Most of (all?) the great NBA stars took several seasons to settle in before figuring things out. Over doing the hype tends to leave a lingering bad taste.

I have a hard time faulting any athlete for their irrational confidence. You don't make the pros without thinking you're the best damn guy on the court. But even with all his good qualities, Smart took "irrational confidence" to another level. Gotta sting to end up on a 27 win team that people give zero fucks about.
^^^only if you think making $20 million a year to play basketball stings. And the grizzlies were pretty ravished by injury this season, I’d wager they’ll win many more games than 30 next season when Ja, Adams and Clarke are all back.
