Side hits are so fun! Riding new trails I'm always bummed when I see them too late or not enough speed.

Super stoked on this next feature.
6-8 foot wall to sharkfin; gap feature to another massive berm about 7-8 foot tall as a catch on the other side. Should be a really fun feature that requires a bike position change mid gap.
Met one of the original builders from the late 90s today. Trail hasn’t been touched since 2000!

Been working all fall on drainage issues and adding in some fun berms in critical corners and making some boulders into takeoffs and overall more fun across some of our beat to frig Maine trails. The clay (which sits under 6-10" of root map, oi vey) is proving to be challenging to work with. Seems very sensitive to moisture and if it gets wet, it takes forever to dry (a cluster of the best trails are on a shaded NE-facing wooded hillside). Any tips other than making sure everything drains super easy?
Clay is a shitshow. See XLR8 at Fort Rock. That trail is unrideable for days/weeks after a rain which was pretty much all year ty.

It’s a system; we dig a shovel depth down and take roots with it. This helps us shape the general form and not lose our mind picking out roots.Quote:

Another new bridge, this one using found redwood logs and milled decking. Scraped away the outer rotted layer and the rest of the wood was good, should hold up for years.

This is a green trail that’s supposed to be multidirectional but it’s pretty steep in places. The trail used to go to the left and straight through the drainage. The bench cut above required a lot of digging and fill and the soil is mostly rock. It needs more work.

One of the issues is the rock sticking out to the left. The tread is still too narrow to the outside of it but it will be a cool lip to launch on the downhill.
