Fatherhood anonymous; an open discussion on being a dad.

Posted awhile back about biking into camp with my middle kid the last couple years. We did this years trip (5 yo) last weekend. I clamped an amazon kids seat to my thule rack for her to ride on as she is too tall for the kids ride shot gun this year. Used light bar clamps for foot pegs. Worked ok, not much room for her, but she did not complain. 45 wiggly pounds that high and far back was interesting :-). She hiked on the steeper sections, which was helpful. Need to work on her dirt skills so next trip she will be on her bike(tow strap for uphill).

Had all 5 of my kids home for Father's Day as well as had my dad here, too. Honestly could not have asked for a better day. There's nothing better than having all of your kids around.

Happy belated Father’s Day to all y’all. Spent mine doing what I (we) love best during summertime: traipsing up and down Lowcountry along U.S. Rt. 17 from Chas -> IoP -> Sullivan’s Is. -> Beaufort -> HHI -> Bluffton -> SAV and back again.

Time with my boy in Lowcountry passes slowly and is so damned rewarding (no screens, lots of convos, lots of family, etc) and I appreciate it all the more before he heads off to camp for a few weeks up the coast after the 4th.

Focused on being present and being an open ear and it was so rewarding. Age 9; here we go.

The girls are busy these days but they can still rally a couple times a summer to go camping. Did a cave tour too. And they even remembered to make Fathers Day cards. [emoji3]

Thank you for this reminder. I need to keep it in perspective since I am around my three boys a lot and sometimes don't appreciate it.

I golfed 18 holes with my kid on Father’s Day. I’m not a golfer, but I live 100yrds from hole one. So I guess I’m now a golfer. Soon enough he won’t want to ski or golf with me anymore, so cliche, but enjoy it while it lasts. Not to mention being old AF it’s getting hard to even keep up skiing anymore.

Shout out to all the dads in here who are breaking cycles of abuse, neglect, addiction, apathy--giving your children what you didn't have, and maybe what your father never had either. If you're like me there's lots of mixed feelings around the father's day holiday, but for me, resentments, frustrations, and anger have eased as the intense pride and joy of being a father to my own children eclipse those things.

We're out here learning from others, getting help, putting in the effort to connect and be present with our children so we can change our family trees. Let's keep on keepin' on!

Great post. Gives me a glimmer of hope sometimes to think how much more emotionally intelligent and genuine so many kids are these days. Parenting can improve. Almost would have to considering where some of us can from 😁

Congrats! I was scared shitless too (still am!) as it was a surprise. But words can not truly describe the immense joy our daughter has brought to our lives. I just hope that we’re reciprocating that joy to her as well!

It’s nice to see pictures of everyone with their kids as they are getting older because for me that seems eons away!

I didn’t have a dad around growing up, and now I am one, so there is something poetic and nice about that. I took my 18 month old out for our first daddy-daughter camping trip on Friday. We just spent one night and camped in the car by a river as it was raining when we arrived. She was delighted to toss pebbles into the water, and we did a short hike with her in the backpack as she is just taking her first steps. She always gets really excited camping in the tent or car because it’s like a little cave full of new toys. While challenging at times to wrangle a toddler solo outdoors, I do recommend it just because it was sweet to spend time together just the two of us in a quiet place.

No shit. Thing#3 graduated last weekend. My wife continuously laments about all the things we didn't do. Cue the Butthole Surfer intro speech about regret...

He's regretting not listening to me regarding which job to take for the summer. He chose doing flooring for a friend's dad. Unfortunately said contractor is not reliable and my son is missing a day of work today because the contractor flaked. I told him to post haste hit up one of the other options that hasn't sailed already. He only got about 8 weeks to make bank.

And did you pick up a filthy hippie hitchhiker along the way??? Someone needs a haircut!!! Fetch my rusted razor!!! :brostache:

Thanks all. This thread has been great to follow in the past. And knowing and meeting a bunch of awesome father's from this forum (hatch, ISBDs, SkiLyft, buster, others...) has always been an inspiration. Looking forward to future stoke.
