I’m even more proud he asked me tonight to build a set of skins for the cutie he was skiing with today. She’s got rad skis with Dukes from her brother but no skins. So Dad’s gonna hook a brother up.

Does that make you a 'Wingdad"?
hell yeah
he’s looking out for me too - he’s gotta know some single moms
How is Dodge skiing? Thinking of getting out there next week with the family if I talk them into it. Sounds like they have a lot open.
it’s been great
a lot is open
sorry but I can’t help with tickets these days
Yeah, I figured that. They have by far the best day ticket prices. I don't mind chilling on fixed grips.
How do you think the crowds will be during next week? Are there typically lines? We were thinking of going next Tuesday or Wednesday after the storm, but aiming for a sunny day. Like everyone.
it’s never really that bad at DR, but it will be busy - there will be lines, but nothing like Tahoe
Dodge Ridge is seriously under rated - having worked there and BV, I find it way more entertaining on a day to day basis - sure, it does not have terrain like Grizzly Bowl, but BV really struggles to get that open
Aiming for Tuesday.
Though about a monday powder day, but prefer good visibility, give. My shoulder recovery. Tho winds look stronger on Tuesday.
DR doesn’t get blown out too bad since it’s not on the crest and fairly protected. Probably a good day to visit.
New Parking Implementation Plan
FOR SKIERS + RIDERS
In an effort to adhere to the capacity management of the Covid-19 State guidelines, Dodge Ridge has implemented a permit parking plan. The new plan will incorporate 3 levels of parking permits available to skiers and riders with valid same-day lift ticket or a 2020/21 season pass:
Season-Long Preferred Parking Passes provide access to the closest, most convenient parking at our base area and are valid for any space in the Dodge Ridge parking lots. You can purchase your Season Long Preferred Parking Passes for $275 from DodgeRidge.com.
Daily Parking Permits will provide parking close-in to the base area parking and at the Chairlift 5 parking lot. We recommend you advance purchase to secure your Daily Parking Permits for $40 per day, by going online to DodgeRidge.com prior to your visit. Please show proof of purchase to the Parking Attendant upon arrival and you will receive your daily permit.
Free Parking Permits will be available to skiers and riders with a valid same day tickets purchase or a 20/21 Season Pass, and Nordic Trail Users on a daily basis and will have a limit based on the numbers of guest reservations for a given day. Free Parking Permits will provide access to spaces at the furthest edges of our parking from the Dodge Ridge Base Area. You will receive your free parking permit from our Parking Attendants when you arrive by providing proof of same-day lift ticket purchase or a 2020/21 Dodge Ridge Season Pass or your plan to access the Nordic Trails of your choice.
Arriving early will provide the best chance of getting the parking parking permit of your choice before they run out.
All levels of parking will vary based on guest capacity on any given day. We know this is a major change and we ask you to support our Covid-19 prevention plan so we may remain open all season long.
We’re in this together!
ouch.
yeah $40 is steep
arrive early
forecast looks good for China Peak
I’d like to get up to Badger Pass soon and do some touring.
I plan to arrive early, but it looks like I will still need to park the furthest away. $40 to rich for my blood.
China Peak only has like 3 trails open. Nice forecast, but perhaps thin yet?
I thought Badger was closed this year. But I guess that is good for touring.
The Outpost or Alicia’s Sugar Shack for breakfast stuff if you need it, but don’t expect customers to be wearing masks.
great morning rolling with Ottime and his son
never found em after lunch
I rolled through Pinecrest after skiing today to check it out. I did not expect to see it as busy as summer.
Great day at DR. New fan of that hill. We will be back. Kid wants to show mom around next time.
Really? Just people farting around in the snow?
DR is a sleeper. My home resort. Always will love that place. And don't tell all your SC bros, but it beats BV bigly on a pow day. Hell, it holds lines for days after a pow day. BV is tracked out in 3 hours.
I can imagine. It is a really nicely laid out hill with way more nooks and crannies than BV. Of course this is based on one day at DR and a dozen or so at BV.
Even with out Pow, w/o Grizzly it is hands down winner for DR. What I really appreciate is the length of pitch. Whether long rolling groomers or moderate length steep pitches, it out performs anything at BV.
I like fixed grips. Rest on the lift and stay skiing. We (son and I) only stopped once all day. For lunch. In a sunny spot half way down Flume. Usually we make camp (build a bench from my skis) 3-4 times a day when we are lapping high speed lifts. I think I’ll skip the pack next time. I gappered it to chair 8 and stopped the lift when I unloaded. At least I was not hanging from it.
I won’t tell anyone. Just post up on the internet about it and stuff. Sweet spot for sure.
So true of the high speed. When we lap Polar at BV, we get burnt way too fast. In the Hibernation chair days, you could drink a beer and take a 10 minute nap on that thing!
There are so many stashes at DR.
When it get's back to normal, the best thing is to get there early and park at the top near 5. Then you just ski to your car and eat. Back on 5 and you're in business.
DR has been skiing great, and they’ve really been going for it with the grooming. They have almost everything open.
Bear Valley has been a distinct disappointment. They have Cub, Super Cub and Mokulumne Express open, with one groomed advanced run from top to bottom. Koala chair is closed, and the terrain over there is also closed. Polar Express chair has not yet opened for the season. Pooh chair was not serviced/maintained/certified over the summer, so it will not open at all this season. So at this point, folks can pay $139 a day for one groomed run. What a deal!
seriously - I’m so glad I escaped that place - it’s fucking embarrassing
as of 9am Dec 31 Badger Pass area will be accessible for winter recreation use. The lodge will be closed, but there will be garbage services and shitters. Grooming of Glacier Point Road will be intermittent.
I saw that China Peak opened new terrain today but I’m too lazy to research and post info so maybe someone else can chime in.
looking forward to skiing with GiBo tomorrow
China Peak is still pretty limited. A few short blues and their long winding beginner trail that crosses the hill. I’d hold off until after next week.
I like DR; it's also the first place where my kid ever (downhill) skied (on a related note, some surprisingly inexpensive, but top drawer, lessons during several visits to China Peak, did a lot of good for his skiing foundation). And I haven't been to DR enough to explore this, but it looks to have some pretty sweet sidecountry options as well.
Yeah, a patroller friend gave me the scoop a few months ago about BV having slacked off on summer maintenance during Covid, and not having an ambitious outlook for this season; sorry to hear that's coming to pass. Polar does have some fun glades, and there are some cool lines off of the six-pack (though not exactly a full day's worth), and of course Grizz when that shapes up; I hope they get it together.
good day at DR yesterday
we need more snow
