Windy AF up high in spots. You could find windslabs in frequent producing spots but not any more so than a normal windy storm. 20 inches of new that was nicely right side up and skied like a bottomless 4-8.

Ahh, that sounds awesome! I was thinking right side up would be epic when I left on Sunday.
Yeah horrible. Poor girl wasn’t really on the mountain. My kids and friends have played right in that spot all the time.Quote:

Silvy... I'm jealous!!!
Hope someone here is killing it!
Yes, me too! I wondered if it was going to open again this season.
I’m wondering if SB will open the palisades this season….

crowded in the backcountry
Very good skiing this morning but the Death Star is taking its toll this afternoon Rumor of a avalanche emergency today on Jake’s, don’t have any details

Total failure on part of AM ops today. Otherwise not a bad day.

Pre-lunch game was solid at The Star today.
Coupla of my spots hadn’t been tracked out, which was nice.
Post lunch the snow got weird, but still had a good afternoon session which included the first peak of Sawtooth Ridge (though the kids in my charge now hate me for making them “hike”).
Heard DSR is now offering $25 tix for pass holder from other resorts…and Friday the 11th is $25 day at soda Springs…
Best day of the season in OV. Patrol did a great job of opening everything. Avoided GC. Did not wait in line for more than 3-4 min all day long

Was itching for backcountry but we chose Kirkwood and it was stellar. Shout out to the Ops team, shit was dialed. https://i.postimg.cc/YCRpkt4d/IMG-5229.jpg
Lack of Lakeview or any hikes was lame at Alpine. Left at 11 to go for a walk. Saw careflight flying toward Reno from somewhere to the south of Homewood around 12:30

I’m looking for a room to rent
I really don't know names of pretty much anything at OV. I have four laps total on the silvy lift, but the first run was knee-thigh untracked a few yrs ago. I was in heaven and hell at the same time. The snow was perfect, but every roll over I came to I had to slow down as I didn't know if was a send or what...that was the hell part. Knowing the line is so important. Looking forward to becoming more familiar with that place as it's clearly a super fun hill.
I drove past Heavenly Stagecoach at 8am this morning and there was already a giant line of person-less skis. It was just as infuriating driving past as it is actually standing in the line. If I worked there, I would throw all of them in the snowbank.
That's awesome!
I'm probably one of the few skiers that worked at Squaw and never skied it until years later. Lived in Truckee for 4-5 months, got a job at the hill and it didn't snow. They didn't have snowmaking...or much of anything anyway back then. Took a road trip to Utah and JH to ski with friends. Got back to snowless Truckee, packed my bags and back to the Village I moved...then miracle March happened for those that hung around Squaw.
Best week of the year. Wish it came before April.
Yesterday was all-time Country Club conditions at SB.
Today I got a late start after some car issues in the morning. OV was a lot of fun, but the snow in the sun turned quickly. My friends kid was blown away by how quickly the entire mountain tracks out. His take: "Palisades sucks." Hahaha. Spoiled KW kid. You have to learn to embrace chop skiing.
I'm letting go of my SB passes for next year. For the first time in 20 years. Really for a variety of reasons. I am positive I will have days that I miss it. I'll be at OV 5 days a week. Might as well move into the valley.
This spoiled KW skier Alamo went to OV yesterday cause of the Silvy siren call. MashedPoatoes was going to KW so I headed that way. Frorider is right. They have ops dialed in at KW. They pretty much have all year. Lifts opening at 9am on storm days. 6/10 running with sustained 50mph winds. I don't get a lot of days these days, so yesterday was money.

Classic KW day. The day started quickly. Jim's, Fingers, Once, Baby Kodak. Then a few minutes wait for the backside. Hell's, Dogleg, hot lap to Hollywood, Covered Wagon Peak to Fawn, Wave, Vista. Back out to Fawn and a visit to the Temple. Another hot lap and another Vista. 10 closed early (they do that most days now) and finished in the Cham/Ooops zone which was packed powder but on any other day would have been fabulous snow. The north facing will be prime today at the wood.
Only the two pics cause we were busy skiing.
Feeling so blessed to get a day like yesterday. It was perfect. The only thing that could have made it better was if it happened in early February. Same snow pack, same crowds, same conditions with a lower sun angle. Anything W-S facing was cooked by 3. E facing may still be good as it was overcast most of the morning.

I've never skied Kirkwood...really need to get there...and Mammoth.
Metzler’s IG from yesterday at kirkwood made me miss that place.
I think a reason Kirkwood has it dialed is that it’s being run by two career employees. Ricky and Adam worked (hard!) through the ranks of pro patrol before getting to their management level. Some here probably remember when Adam lived winters in his vanagon in the lot before accepting a job on patrol.
