Installed ARB skid plates on the GX470 today. Pain in the ass, especially drilling out 2 snapped bolts (not by me). Got it all together, looks good.
Changed the oil on my cruiser today. That filter did not want to come off. Hassle factor elevated.

Rear calipers, rotors, pads and shoes on a 2008 Silverado 2500 HD. Rusted mess. Bit of a shitshow.

In fairness to GM, I've been towing a boat with it the past three summers, so the rear wheels see a bit of moisture.
That's one thing I really like about the newer Subaru motors, the filter is right on top and super easy to get to and because it's upside down and in a really dry clean area it almost never gets stuck. If you have a Fumoto valve it also makes changing the oil a super simple procedure.
I've never had one get that difficult. I have a good oil filter wrench that tightens as you apply more torque to it. The angle of access without removing the skid plate made it tougher. Should been a 30 second removal, instead took 10 mins. Felt like 30.
I'll keep your technique in the back pocket for future elevated hassle situations.

Washed, cleaned interior, removed roof box and bike rack, put in a new battery, topped off fluids... Prepped the Astro FOR SALE. Bittersweet moment as I've loved this van with all my heart. We had a good run.
Time to become an adult and buy a baby-carrying vehicle.
If anyone in Northern CA is looking for an AWD Astro, drop me a line.
Working on replacing the pcv or CCV on my BMW 540i. So far so good. Now to get the new one in there. Symptoms we're smoke at start up when cold and rough idle. Sure enough, there was excessive oil in the intake manifold.
Common service item on these, and mine has over 170k miles.Attachment 278801Attachment 278802Attachment 278803

All done. Replaced a sorry looking vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator with a fancy red one. Attachment 278806Attachment 278807

Mine doesn’t have rear seats. I could source some but we’re looking for a wagon, something we can daily along side my Golf. It won’t be my last van!
Yeah mine has some surface rust on the underbody but it’s not too bad. Great shape and yes, the AWD are hard to come by, don’t see hardly any on the classifieds around here. Still considering asking prices but not going to give it away!
Yeah, I've had two E46, and luckily never had to do that on either one. The V8 is a piece of cake. 2 nuts, move expansion tank over, remove bolts, clean stuff, put er back together with the new valve.
On those e46 I understand you don't NEED to remove the intake manifold, but it makes the job easier. The other thing you should make sure is done on the 330i, is the DISA valve. The pivot shaft for the valve can fail and get sucked into the motor causing $$$$$ problems. It is easy to change.
On the e30, it doesn't need a lot mechanically. It really drove great all the way up here. Lots of records with the car for stuff in the past few years. Steering rack, bilstein b8, h&r springs, bushings, control arms, ball joints, water pump, pulleys, valve cover gasket, front brakes. Lots of good stuff.
I will be doing the seats, and the hood, a stereo, and probably some different wheels and tires.
