EW opened pretty much completely around 2:15 yesterday. Great skiing, but the conga line of entitled Team Summit douchebags was pretty annoying. Funny to watch them ski straight into rocks and tumble though.
Vertical cornice was deep. LOTG was best I have skied it in a long time. All looked pretty hammered by the time they closed it around 3p. Should still be pretty nice today though. Might give Snorkel/Booger a hike today.
Wasn't up there at all this weekend but judging from the posts Abasin put up yesterday I could tell east wall was getting hammered quicklyWill do a hike or two in the next few days just to get up there then going to visit a friend in sun valley to go do what is looking like some spring skiing

It opened around like 1:30, they were doing some work/ shots in a few places. Skied W vert and it was pretty fun if a bit choppy, entrance has a little more side step than usual for right now but once you’re in coverage is good. People need to ski the damn fall line on the lower section, traverse lines made that ski all messed up. Pali is skiing good and the bumps are pretty fun right now though I wouldn’t mind a little magic from the wind before the next snow.

Got out today, 9-1230 or so. Respectable amount of snow. Had to follow where the wind was blowing it. For the most part it wasn't enough to not feel the ice and chunder bellow. Viability anywhere not protected by the wind was pretty lousy.
fun morning out there today. was sick as could be the past two days but felt better this morning so I got out though I didn't have the energy in me to stick around and see if east wall would open. looks good up there
Just got the 25/26 season pass email. Full ikon pass will have unlimited access next year, ikon base is still 5 days. Midweek pow days could get a bit busier although I feel like most ikon users have the base pass.
They did add a couple things to the full basin pass, like one $25 lift ticket to use any day of the season for a friend.
As a full Ikon pass holder, I’m selfishly happy about this but it will be busier. I’m assuming they were struggling this year financially, per previous comments?
A couple months ago I felt like this was a sure thing to happen then recently I felt more optimistic it wouldn’t happen but here we are. Well shit, even as an abasin and and ikon pass holder this kinda sucks
Things got a little funky from the wind last night/ this morning. Nice and soft but thinking EW will be pretty funky when it opens after another round of control work
Also just saw in the info on basins website that both ikon and ikon base have no blackout days next winter. That's been huge during the holidays with ikon base passes blacked out. dang
I think this is fantastic news. The full ikon pass is priced as a truly premium pass and price differential between the base and full is such that the vast majority of people purchase the base pass. Unlimited on full ikon will not make A Basin packed.
However, this gives those who want it the option to own a truly fantastic pass. I think that the full Ikon pass is now the best pass in the business.
I expect this unlimited Ikon will drive down Abasin only passes. More revenue for Alterra.
If the Abasin pass included parking w/o reservations, then it would be worth getting it. The other small extras on Abasin only pass don't move the needle for me.
Maybe. But it's clear A-basin only passes took a HUGE hit this year probably due to expected hassles with ikon/parking/crowds which didn't materialize (yet). Might be some of those passholders come back.
Not really good with the prognosticating. But i'm glad I didn't get scared off by the alterra deal cause this season had been sweet.
Bummed about this. I'm a full ikon guy, so this benefits me... BUT abasin days are special, so I really strategize on how I'd use my 7 days - and I definitely appreciate the lack of crowds. Really thought they were going to keep the status quo for next year. Memories of those old Epic days are pretty damn rough
AFAIK they only sold parking passes to Abasin passholders this season. I wonder if they will open it up to Ikon passholders. I will probably get an Ikon, but as someone who mostly skis the basin, on weekends, I’m not psyched to pay $20 every day i ski.
I'm a weekend skier, and the parking situation has kept me off that mountain this season. Due to that, even on the occasional weekday trip, I decided to boycott.
Glad to hear there will be an A-basin only option again at the same renewal rate as last year ($559). Would be an extra $770 for me (plus my wife and kids) to get the full Ikon. Hard pass.
As for parking passes, my guess is it will be offered to full Ikon and A-basin passholders. No brainer. Love rolling in late (but before 1pm) and grabbing an early riser spot. Hasn't been busy much at all this season. Fingers crossed that continues.
I don’t see how this doesn’t become just like the Epic situation years ago.
I guess the way it doesn’t is the average front range skier being too cheap to go full ikon and paid parking? For some reason in my mind I see a large percentage of front range skiers as coming here, skiing, brown bagging it and not even stopping for gas in summit. The remaining percentage is here for bloodies and apres. I’m probably a little off on my assumptions but there could be something there.
A big problem of the Epic years was the employees especially in the late season when all of their mountains were closed. At least Copper and winter park are further out to prevent that.
I don't think we will see something close to the Epic shitshow until Ikon base goes unlimited.
I've been skiing the Basin a lot this season and could tell the current situation (lack of skiers) wasn't sustainable. Season pass sales took a hit with the paid weekend/holiday parking and numbers have been down. My buddy who bartends at BML on the weekends says he's down 30%+ . I'm not the least bit surprised as something had to give. I don't see this having a big impact on the skier experience and will be renewing my pass for next season.
Now if the Ikon Base goes unlimited, that would most likely be the equivalent of the Epic shitshow days. In Al we trust.
I'm still just sour that they got rid of the $49 down payment to secure your pass a couple years ago. That was the most helpful thing for locals who can't shell out $600 in March just to ski the following year.
