^^^ Not sure but I can ask my mechanic. Maintenance book says is it’s not scheduled until 120k miles so plenty of driving until then.
EDIT: sounds like $500 +/- $100 depending on the shop. Car sold today. Sad to see it go.
It checked out fine last time I had it in a few a couple thousand miles ago.
Sorry if I shit on your sale with the timing belt comments. It really is just a risk issue, waiting along time to change them out and I am risk adverse, hence why I replace everything on my car ahead of schedule.
Timing belt kits are maybe $250 and then 2-3 hours labor is what I think I pay for the install. Certainly not a deal breaker for a buyer to do down the road.
On that topic, don't we have the right to be pissed that manu's are building cars that require an extra $600 maintenance to replace a belt when there are plenty of cars with chains that last the lifespan of the car itself. The fact that it's a source of concern for you (you replace it proactively) makes it all the more surprising that manufacturers still use them. I personally haven't owned a car in years that required a belt replacement.
Wife has an XC90 which is passable for that size crew - she’s looking at the VW Atlas or a Highlander.
I’m on the hunt for a 2003-vintage Land Cruiser. Will be the first non-wagon I’ve ever owned.
OG active suspension:
Hydropneumatic suspension is a type of motor vehicle suspension system, designed by Paul Magès, invented by Citroën, and fitted to Citroën cars, as well as being used under licence by other car manufacturers, notably Rolls-Royce (Silver Shadow), Maserati (Quattroporte II) and Peugeot. It was also used on Berliet trucks and has more recently been used on Mercedes-Benz cars, where it is known as Active Body Control.[1] Similar systems are also widely used on modern tanks and other large military vehicles. The suspension was referred to as oléopneumatique in early literature, pointing to oil and air as its main components.[2]
High mileage 220k with shit aftermarket coilovers in the rear that bottomout with anyone back there. Bunch of broken interior trinkets. Poop mpg. Then I wrecked it, popped airbag, dont want to invest money in bodywork cause Im a budget baller. The new car is way better shape n way lower mile at 160k.
Seems reasonable.
My w211 is at 160k. It still gets compliments on ride quality with the Airmatic. The rear bags leak but they pump up with no error messages. Also has original (16) spark plugs. Never changed.
Same plugs at 160k??? Maybe give your car some love and change them :rolleyes2
Runs perfectly with mpg right on spec. Mechanic strongly suggested it was not necessary and that we need to replace the wires if and when it gets done. He said I’ll know when it needs it. I believe him.
The guys on the Benz forums say the old ones still look new when they pull them at 100k. I’m not worried about it starting to run rough or front running ignition trouble.
Don’t fix what isn’t broken

So, I'm thinking I want to ditch the Golf R in favor of something else... But the catch is that "something else" still needs to seat four people (for real), a reasonable amount of stuff, have awd and a manual trans, and not be a WRX or a Focus RS. Does such a thing exist? The last time I asked, you guys came through with the VW suggestion, which has been great. So, round two? Figuring this is probably a wagon of some sort, so have at it.
FWIW, I did reconsider a 911 Turbo and still can't stomach a 996 or a $300k asking price. A radiator is still at the top of my list of optional equipment to avoid. But maybe a 997 or 991... maybe. Price ceiling is probably $80k, but really thinking more like $50-60k, which obviously doesn't buy a 991 Turbo that hasn't been set on fire...
Whatcha got?
Holy shit! When did you come back???
You don't seem like someone that would like a GT-R.
