Ski in jeans day- like gaper day but with 10% of the terrain open. What could go wrong.
I fail to see why Kevo's comment on low tide conditions was so triggering? Just looking at the landscape should do that for any real skier!

Have to agree. It really did smell https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8050885bb.jpeg
so nice riding up AV this morning. The missis and I partoke in Jean day for all of 3 runs. Then off for a few post schuss libations….. Le Tits Now
I always thought it was ceonothus, we noticed that smell in the same spot my first season in Jackson, 2009, and it reappears in seasons that start similar to this one, skiing the strip on warm days in December with a thin snowpack
I don’t know the name but that was first time smelling it.
I don’t even remember [emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]]]/[emoji637][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]] being this thin, but I just came for a couple of weeks starting a few days before Christmas, I think

Well seeing as it hasn't snowed much more than a skiff here or there, the turns at the village are good quality.
Limited acreage obvi but smooth lines, uncrowded and carvy cold snow.
Slalom turns to GS+ are the daily routine at the moment. Been good to turn with lindenle abit lately. The M6 mantras are nice to motor around on but the M102's were ready to drive the bus today.
Moran, Werner, Crags, Wide Open and EDI ripping now with Bridger ganjala and Marmot firing up this Saturday.
Next 3 days is kids ski free day. 12 and under, Free with a paying adult, which will set ya back $230 a day.
And that's before the gotdam waffles. Gitsum.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Before I made turn #1 today, I got a blob of black lift grease on my new-to-me, mint condition, vintage Patagucci Das Parka in Mango. Which I then smeared on the front a little before I realized it was there.
I was lit up like a firecracker mad but managed to regroup, clean it up a little and go make turns. An intensive cleaning with some Dawn Platinum seems to have removed 98% of it. Just some vague shadows here and there.
Daily hurdles.
Village Angst.
It occurred to me later that it's only the second time in about 30 years so that's actually a pretty good record. The older lifts were notorious for blobs when it got above, say, 40*.
But it's orange, when I've been wearing black for days and phenomenally hard to find. Stoked for the cleaning up so well tho.
Adds to the DWR…
If Dawn works to clean up oil coated ducks in Alaska, it certainly should bring your Pattagucci back from such a fowl accident.
Outstanding, and thank you for a good AM laugh.
I got the Dawn Platinum. That has to work bettah, right? Cuz Platinum.
I had my older electric toothbrush going, just a buzzin and a swirlin away. Worked well.
Skiing tomorrow could have some minor challenges. Gonna be the first genuinely busy day, except jeans day which apparently was a bit of an overcrowded clusterfuck eventually.
Kokomas, skiing anytime soon? Holla, let's go.
Let’s talkQuote:
Dawn IS the key. I was stoked to see it breaking down and disappearing the grease. I blotted it with wet paper towels after a scrubbing and assumed the wash cycle would set any remaining stain so made sure nothing was left to remove. Tech talk djongo!
Sweet!
Toothbrush helps to work that Dawn out of the grease stain…
Initially we use baby powder on grease stains/ to “pull it out”?…..then hit it with the Dawn….usually pretty successful.
Maybe 2 weeks into those pink ski pants I used to wear, I had a grease blob drop right on the leg. Classic early season.
Or at least it seems to always happen early season- I assume because they’ve been doing all the extra maintenance and upkeep for the start of the season.
Maybe we should add wearing grease clothes to skiing on rock skis for early season
Pow Day!
Definitely is on the sides of all the runs.
Damn, I almost texted you.
I wasn't gonna ski then was up early so went out for some quick laps and vert. Not too busy and soft enough to carve around.
That second fucking cattrack roller on wide open was set to launch somebody...hoooo boy.
I was joking about the skiff of snow, that's a reference to a past mag here, Skiing-in-Jackson. RIP Stephen.
I love seeing the Skiing-in-jackson “Pow Day” too so thanks for keeping that going.
I was slinging christmas trees today so didn’t ski but it was coming down pretty heavily at a couple points
And then the water content looks japow-style lightness towards the end of the storm tomorrow. We’ll be out in the am. Holla
Pretty fun day out there and nice to ski some soft stuff.
Super fun seeing a few mags out there- ran into Hoarhey first thing but he was busy with camps. Then waistdeep and skibird was an additional treat.
We left at about noon to get some other shiz done then saw that they opened Thunder shortly thereafter. Who got some??
Great meeting you guys
I also bailed at noon to watch kiddos while Mrs Hoarhey finished out her camp day
Fellow campers said broken goggle was good but an amazing mass of people lined up on the traverse!
Edit to add a Heritage Labs FR one ten sighting at the top of the gondy at eleven am…
I was out first thing and took a few fresh cowpow speed laps before splitting early. i was up at the crack o the crack so was ready to be done fast. maybe 6-7 laps by 9:30.
Was getting busy quickly and the line at the gondy was long and going nowhere so out.
Sure was nice to be skiing in a storm.
I lucked out and was about the #30? civilian Into the bowl. Mid thigh in spots on my old Coomba's. Didn't cross a track in the bowl that first lap. Did 3 more. It gusted up past 40 along with a brief torrential snow squall for a while - which only added to the stoke and helped fill in the tracks and numerous face plant divots. Best turns so far this season! Le tits!
Yesterday was good. Cashed in on early AV laps and the delayed gondi opening kept the north side of the hill fairly quite for 30-45min past 9. Was nice to get some soft turns.
By some stroke of luck we decided to traverse out to Amphitheater on our way to ski lower GV to end the day. Must have caught the Thunder opening within the first couple minutes judging by the amount of untracked on that first lap. It was a zoo by the 2nd lap but still found some untracked thigh deep in the broken goggles area.
Some storm skiing was a nice morale boost for sure.
Likely mine, I’ve got demo binders if anyone out here wants to try em for a day
I am interested in demo. I will be skiing the village all week.
^Joe, to follow up on the hockey thing… Looks like the rodeo grounds rink is in. Usually Friday night there is a decent pickup game there and looking at the forecast I’d think they will have it cleared by then.
Last weekend they started putting the ice in at the Wilson rink. Wednesday is the pickup night there. Not sure if they’ve started them up yet but I’ll ask around and report back.
Damn, it sure is nice to have flurries for days. Yesterday's howling wind was welcome too. I love the smoothing affect of the windblown snow. Thunder liftline was beautiful this AM.
2Dollars - did I ride up thunder with you and the lady friend today? I'm the guy you felt needed a rest. LMao
TJoe - I'm out early for a coupla hours and then waxing around 6. Holla for a sesh or laps.
I gots no skates or a stick, but plenty of pucks in the garage. Rodeo rink looks open now
I've seen a coupla pairs of the HLs on the hill. Nice rides fosho.
Tomorrow is gonna be nice and soft.
edit to add: This Friday is the 100th anniversary of the coldest recorded December day in the Hole; 12/20/1924 recorded minus 52*. 3 years and 3 days prior, it was a record high of 61*.
Ours is a valley of mood swings.
I saw a pair of HLs in line at Bogus Saturday. Chatted the driver up a little and he turns out to be the maggot “shank”. He was in the singles line alas and we didn’t ride together so I couldn’t interrogate him further.
I asked if he bought them from Marshal Olson, instead of if he had change for a nickel.
Might take my FRone tens out for first time tomorrow
Thread drift, this is pretty interesting how they are engineering the Pass road repair. I’m not sure whether to be confident in this, or just chalk it up to ‘silly humans, trying to outsmart gravity’.
