Thought to give this a bump. I would post pictures, but from what I see from others would just be nonsensical.
Way the site is circling the drain could be the last year we are all together. Anyone who has gone will tell you what a great time it is.
On a personal note, I am bringing touring gear again and hope to connect with others and a guide.
Hi Cat,
I'm coming with some friends from Colorado and we hope to share in the cost of a guide and do some some touring for a couple days. It might make sense to get a separate chat going on among participants on Signal or whatever. I pm'd Buster r.e. the old chat, but I assume he is stepping back as ringleader, so lets just get the pre-trip organizing bits together. Aside from confirming who can commit to sharing guiding costs and how many touring days, I have a couple simple questions: Confirm that we don't need to apply for a visa on-line ahead of arrival (it appears that would happen easily upon arrival in Zurich). Recommendations for a decent hotel near the Zurich airport ahead of morning return flight. It looks like: Leonardo, Movenpick, Holiday Inn Express and Intercity all seem to be good options.

It took me a few tries to post this, so the ship may already be sinking........................................... .........................
I stayed there as well, cheap and served it's purpose. There is also a McDonalds a block away and you can get a Cheeseburger Royale.
I too stayed at the HI Express, it was fine.
No visa for Switzerland. I am not visiting other countries, but I think others do
Eventually you’ll need an ETIAS approval, but it looks like it’s postponed until at least this summer, so no Visa needed.
Also, if anyone is on the fence, it’s looking like Delta has some decent deals from Salt Lake to Zürich. I’m guessing you can still find good deals from other cities as well.
Cat, as you know, I would be in for some touring and sharing a guide.
I arrive solo on Feb. 27 and am staying for a month. If anyone is around Andermatt pre-Grumble, I would hook up for some laps and/or guide share then as well.
Hello there, I am thinking of joining the Grumble this year as not going to North America this year. Living closeby just over the border in Austria logistical effort is also significantly less :) I probably have the week before off also and general somewhat flexible to ski with my job. If anybody is in my area (Arlberg, Montafon) before or after - happy to show you around. Yeah I know its mass tourism but thats just where I happen to live. Also always up for the Valais and all its little less touristy places (Magic Pass Land)

Djongo, thx for the heads up on the Andermatt 1/2 price voucher, got it at the last minute. Looking forward to skiing with you again. I’ll be in Rueras arriving solo the 13th through the 17th. After that, I’ll prolly head to the Dolomitti through the 24th via Innsbruck (hopefully meeting up/skiing with twat and/or overtheoceans on the way there or back). But I’m keeping options open for that week depending on conditions. Bringing full touring gear as well including crampons/axe/harness/etc.
If another mag or two might be interested in traveling and skiing together, we can coordinate. I’m pretty easy to travel with other than my affinity for Campari Spritzers and my uncontrollable Tourette’s [emoji6]
SillyBunt2 not sure if you are on signal. If not message me your phone number. Anyone else who is going to the grumble but is not on signal also message me and I will pass on to Buster so he can add you to the signal group chat. He is on break from tgr for a bit
Are you guys buying the Rega heli membership? Google gives me mixed opinions since it isn't really insurance, just a handshake that they might pick up (heli rescue) costs our health insurance won't.
Anyone buy travel health insurance? I looked at a couple. It seems like they either don't pay or could easily exclude ski accidents.
Obviously, there is also Blister Plus. It doesn't make sense for us domestically because we hit our deductible every year but might make sense for this.
When I last went to Yurp (Val/Tignes) you could add (rescue) insurance to your lift pass for a few bucks.
Obviously, I should go back and reread old Euro Bbi threads, but I wanted to take the current temp on this.
Edit to remind: this is a family trip for us, has to be during daughters school break. Sadly, we arrive the Sunday the weekend most maggots leave.
^^^^^^^For me, the Rega membership is for OB accident extraction. Not for insurance purposes. I've not added any extra health insurance.
Thanks Djongo.
And yes, it is two separate questions. A - Travel health insurance and B - off piste rescue insurance/Rega membership. Although the two are inextricably linked for Mericans.
At the least, excluding other options I don't yet know about, we are planning to buy the $40 chf Rega membership each/free for our 14 year old.
for sure buy Rega, I’m not sure what an alternative is
exception if you are staying between the orange sticks but even then..
I have a membership in the Austrian Alpine Club UK which provides rescue insurance as well as some health insurance. They have details on their website. AFAIK its as good as Rega and has additional benefits.
Stupid Friday question: If I just bring one of those plug adaptor things, is that adequate to keep my cell phone and laptop charged?
There’s a sign up on the signal group for a guide. If you missed it or are not on signal (get on) and you want to go with a guide go add your name. You can sign up for one day or several. Aiming for 3-4 plus guide. Will sort after we settle on number of days. Doesn’t need to be big climbing as big lifts so don’t over think tgr, definitely worth the nickels
Pretty sure I had something like this when I went to Switzerland last year. https://www.amazon.com/Switzerland-A...95&sr=8-3&th=1

^^Sweet! And a perfect place to drink a beer on the way back to the lodge at the end of the day.
Must. Get. Back.

Stupid back injuries fucking up my good times.
Southern Stau still a bit uncertain. Models range from 0.5 to 80cm in Andermatt village and 3 to 240cm in the Stau further south. So it still can be all or nothing.
One thing you forget until you are back is the church bells. On the quarter, half, three quarter and of course on the hour. I thought the Swiss liked watches. What’s the need for all the bells
I was so close to a last minute pull of the trigger but fate had other plans. Amazing I can ski 10 days Crested Butte with zero issues and then my first light day at the gym something happens in my knee. Oh well. I'll enjoy the stoke from the other side. Get on it!
