I’m rewatching season 1 of True Detective to clean my palate after the disappointment of season 4. There is more character depth, suspense, intrigue, and excellent acting in the first 20 minutes of episode1 than the whole season of Night Country. It’s not even close.

Just finished season 4 of true detective. So yeah... agreed with comments above. It was pretty bad. Fairly underwhelmed with Jodie Foster. Agent Starling has gotten kinda shitty in her older age.
Season 1 was one of the best things on TV. It's a bummer that none of the subsequent seasons have come even close to matching its level.

Anyone else feel like HBO lost its mojo… I couldn’t make it through the first episode of The Regime. House of Dragon felt mailed in. The Idol was real bad. The new True Detective felt like some mid 90s cable garbage…
Hopefully Sympathizer and Penguin are good, but not holding my breath.
Seems like the prestige TV talent moved to Apple….

Been an HBO fan for over 25 years always great stuff well except the past five years maybe a few random shows and that's it in those five years see this thread reminds me that I need to cancel

They also frontload the commercials on movies so you can watch the movie uninterrupted, which is nice.
Watched Aniara last night. Swedish sci-fi about a spaceship to Mars that goes off course. Thought it was great. Not a special effects driven thing; more of a bleak commentary on humanity that happens to be set in space.

Hmmm; first episode was a little underwhelming. Character development seemed weak and scattered. I know too early to really judge, but still .....The Desmond Hart character (Travis Fimmel) immediately reminded me of Fimmel's character in Raised by Wolves - twitchy and weird, and not in a good way. Marc Strong as the Emperor seemed like a perfect casting, but as written the Emperor so far is weak and confused.Quote:

There is a recording going around of the movie makers calling up one of the Steely Dan guys and asking if he would be interviewed for the movie. He says fuck you and hangs up. Probably not real but if it’s real it’s fantastic.

Im still trying to get my head around Chevy Chase playing drums w Steely Dan before they became Steely Dan. Apparently the 3 were college buddies. I hate all of them but Chevy more. But how tf are they not yacht rock?!?

Soma.fm Left Coast Seventies is the best.
Watch the documentary. It’s actually very good and Steely Dan was the genesis of yacht rock. Some of it is not great but you would be surprised how interconnected all the bands of the genre are.
