Anyone have a photo of said tape job? Specifically the PE tape.

Funny, I find my zipfit warmer than stock liners (exclusively Lange) I don't think I used my heated socks once last season and did not bother transferring my heated footbeds in.
That being said Fernie is not the coldest place on earth.
I'd like to know what type of hockey tape works too. I did run a cloth footbed tape over the spine bolts in my boots that worked for part of a season but it eventually degraded.
Tuck tape like for sealing Tyvek? Does it get "gummy" after a while?
Thanks
Tuck tape doesn’t get gummy. But it can take some persuading to stick. I put it down the liner. But if your shell has a lot of grippy contours, do a strip of gorilla tape for reinforcement and then a strip of tuck tape on top of that to be slippery.
I tried the tape methods being discussed and it worked for 5 ski days and ended up a balled up mess and sticky no matter what. A boot horn is all that is needed.
Ultra High Molecular Weight (UHMW) Polyethylene tape, applied in a few vertical strips to the back of the boot, has served me well. Nice and slippery, stiff enough to stand up to seasons of use.
Silicone spray not cool anymore? That’s what I’ve been using

Make sure your tape curls a couple of inches under the heel. I used a boot horn today. Kind of a pain in the ass as it gets pulled down under your foot
I bought a magic carpet toboggan for $2. Cut it width-wise and you get an extra long boot horn that will stick out of your boot and you can give the rest to your friends for Christmas.
Also, why can’t I post pics now with the update that happened?
What do you mean?

I’m pretty new to Zipfits and have one of the above ski boot shoe horns. Paid $12 CAD for it from Zipfit. It’s worth it. They work great but would be easy to replicate. Crazy carpet idea is great.
I bought the Workhorse ZF because of the leather. i'm happy. It’s not as soft/comfy as foam but the heel and foot hold is incredible. I’m about 5 days in (didn’t oven heat) and they’re starting to feel really good. First few days….the hold is great but there is there is a bit less comfort as they form to your foot. They're pretty rigid when then are new.
Just saying the leather in the workhorse is so so good. I’m using my Zipfit Workhorses in Nordica Strider 120’s. Got custom footbeds in em. I swear the Strider boot feels stiffer with the ZF Workhorse versus with the standard Nordica cork liner.
I also bought some extra zip fit omfit cork and a plunger (even though the Workhorse is High Volume just so I had some) but so far am just using them stock how they came. I have a normal heel, normal calf, pretty high instep, widish forefoot, very short foot.
Been trying both a booster strap (against the tongue of the liner), and have also kept the wide Nordica Velcro strap on for going over the booster. With the two straps it really secures the boot tongue tight on my shin. Though I may be fine with just the Booster. I removed the internal Velcro strap that is stock on the Zipfit liner as it’s a pain in the ass being inside the shell.
I’ve added a sticky Velcro patch to the back of the ZF liner, to be able to use a Dalbello Velcro spoiler in the back, as the cuff of the Workhorse is not as thick as the cuff on the Nordica liners.
All I can say is holy crap the tightness of the fit and the heel/foot hold is awesome. I’ve had both Intuitions and Surefoot liners in the past and these hold way better. The leather is definitely a pain to get on. But now I’m used to putting the liner on first, and then using the shoe horn to get into the shell.
I spent $600 CAD on leather Zipfits and have a better fit/hold than spending $1,000 on custom liners at Surefoot. And they are way burlier. I have a second pair of Striders, and I'll use the lighter Nordica cork liner in those for touring.

^^ The latest WCSW has the same internal construction: leather and neoprene. The newest Corsa is leather throughout.
^^accidentally deleted my post when editing. Was saying that I found it intersting the WH has neoprene tongue and back strip where ZF's I've known in past have been full leather. I like what they did with the WH as the heel and ankle is where I noticed the leather hold most.
if the WH had been available when I purchased my Gara's I may have opted for the WH's. Although the cuff height and length of cuff "support" on the Gara would def factor in in their favor. The WH and Freeride look a bit shorter height.
I have a pair of WC SW that I think could be improved fo my needs by removing the SW panel. Has anyone modified their Zips in this way?
This pair was a gift and had never been skied when I received them, so to me it's preferable to modify than purchase new.

That's a great question, and I've wondered the same thing. I like the fit of my WCSW but aside from not needing all that stiffness/support, they were just too bulky for my Head Raptors and I ended up grabbing the new Corsa. I'd like to find a use for the WCSW, though, and removing that panel would make them more versatile.
Salomon silicone spray (blue spray can) sprayed on Salomon 747 10 DIN version, melted the toe piece. Also melted plastic Tyrolia AFDs. This was early 90s so I haven't tried anything similar since. YMMV.
Have also had silicone spray degrade stitching on high end hiking boots so I'll keep it away from my zipfits.
I’ve removed panels off GFTs to play better with the Hoji lock and it worked no problem.
Is it a new GFT that does not have the metal lace loops above the foot?

The lower plastic below the flex zones. Notice the different shape. you Can pull this entire piece off by cutting the threads. Cut the plastic piece short of the front of the liner so you don’t open up that main seam. And when you cut out the seams where the plastic dips into the leather at the Achilles be careful.
I was about to do the same then just said screw it and bought Garas. I had picked the SWers up for a decent price so it was not going to be a big loss if I butchered them. But in the end I figured I'd mess them up too much, especially where that SW aspect is sewn into the lace trim and where it meets the sole covering. I just figured I'd have to leave a trim of plastic or try and re-bond a bunch if I removed it all and neither option was appealing. Anyway, looking back I wished I had: I'd still have the full leather guts and have saved a few hundred $ even if the end result didn't look ideal, I think it would have worked.
Yours sound in too good of shape to try it on since you could sell them for good $. But then saving a couple hundred $ is a lot. I'd also suggest calling ZF and asking if that SW aspect is also bonded in place with an adhesive which would make it even more of a pain to remove.
IMHO, unless you know you want that SW aspect, you don't want that SW aspect.
The plastic is lightly glued. Once you cut the stitching, you just peel it off. The glue isn’t that strong.
I wouldn’t pull the stitches at the lace trim. On the GFT I would just cut it at that point and leave a bit of plastic on the liner. I haven’t looked at the SW to see how it interacts with the sole. That could be problematic.
Here's a new one. Anybody have a customer "complain" that they now have too much room in the toebox compared the stock liner? I spend enough time punching toe boxes that I'm thinking this is a good thing, no?
For me it’s vertical height especially just behind the toes.
I started wearing socks with padding under the toes and heels. That neoprene is thin (I’m honestly surprised the choice around such a thin neoprene.
I will say it’s tough to switch zipfits in to boots that already were already punched for a thicker liner.
All the time. For the most part it’s a good thing. Most people want a tighter ankle and looser forefoot but generally it’s a big too much room with the Zipfit. Luckily, most boots have so much bootboard rocker that you can just put a forefoot shim on the bootboard or in the liner and it will snug things up.
Im curious to explore other options like a toe cap sock type of thing.
Just got Gara’s and this was my immediate complaint. So much vertical space in the forefoot. Drew at ZF said this is actually a common complaint, even among some of their athletes. They are looking for a cap type solution and asked to keep them posted on what works.
I’ve been taping various materials to the top of forefoot before I glue down some 2mm neoprene. So much more responsive without the forefoot slop for me.

I have this issue over the top of my forefoot. For intuition liners in my bc boots, I’ve glued 2-4mm of material over the top of the forefoot. For zips I use a thin shim on top of the boot board.
Can post pics of the material over the top of the forefoot next week if folks are interested.

This is why I like my zips so much. I barely need a toe box punch anymore. I had a pair of boots that were fit with the stock liner. Then I got my zips and immediately noticed more space. I dropped down to a 97 last on my new boots and needed a lot less work and the boot/liner combo feels a lot better. Both boots are Lange xt3. I feel like it’s very important to have zips then get fit with them as opposed to what I did and got zips after already being fit with a different liner.
Got a fancy steam oven in our kitchen reno last year. It also works as a regular oven and can be set to as low as 130C (our other oven starts at 200C).
Perfect for baking the Zipfits for a bit (~120-140C is the ref baking temp per the ZF website).
Baking the ZF liners has definitely made them more comfy. Prolly should have done it right away.
