I drove through Ketchum last year on the trip to Stanley, took a few minutes to walk around and got some coffee at my wife checked out the thrift store. She insisted I come take a look.
I was blown away as there were several 1990s/00s absolute top of the line titanium XC race mountain bikes there for sale for a few hundred bucks.
A fully xtr, SID kitted Dean with every drool worthy bit from the 90s etc.
Sure, not terribly desirable for most now, but when the 1% clean out their closets, look out.
Sounds like the place should be called the goldmine
And scrounging through the ski boots to score hardly used Intuition liners has been a fruitful endeavor.
The GM Pete Sonntag was on the Storm Skiing podcast this past week and talked a little about the new Challenger w/ middle unload.
Basically said that it's going from 13:30 mins (ish not exact on this) to "8 minutes and change"
Not that anyone here would give a shit about this but given it covers the most vert of any lift in the country this would be THE lift to get the most vert in a single day in the country I would assume in say a standard 7 hour ski day.
The new short lift up plaza (picabo) might open earlier than the top on a control morning.

I lived in Twin Falls for a winter and learned a little about the history of Sun Valley. I found it interesting.
Ketchum was pretty much your average boom and bust mining town, but in 1936 when the Union Pacific rail line decided to invent a ski resort Sun Valley was born. The CVB does a good job of telling the story for those who want to read more...

He probably thinks it's not going to snow...
CK
So with all the coldness and endless water for snowmaking, what are looking at on turkey day? College to college is always fun but hoping for a little more to spread some folks out. No matter what I am stoked to be skiing in the valley of the sun soon!
Could be more...Ridge, Canyon, Blue Grouse, Mid and Upper River, maybe Squirrel.
We'll see you up there..

OK, i'm ready. Open Warmsprings.

I like it - is that inches, or centimeters?
CK
Inches but if you think cm's you'll be less disappointed.
Rumor this am is early WS opening.
WS as early as Monday, or next weekend? I've got 46 years on Baldy - I'm used to being disappointed by the weather..

Lookout Express hasn't run the last 2 days so expect a COMPLETE shitshow tomorrow at RR.
Any other info than "it's a transformer"?

Where's Dan Whipp when you need him ?
CK
WTF? LE running today, but not the gangala???
It was windy AF late yesterday afternoon..........hmmmmmm
either way still a shitshow
That wind sure moved a LOT of snow to some areas- my best day of the year (so far)!

I quit before noon- I'm old. i heard they were doing control work in the bowls, so I'm hopeful. The ridge southslopes had great coverage with a bottom. The bowls should be just as good.

F…en cold drove over from 1B in the am and skied the afternoon. Still cold nice soft snow. Did not roam off piste much after watching some youngens skiing dirty south faces with big sage grabbing ankles.
Kids were stoke to hear bombs going. Great opener for sure and I hope you stay in the flow long past our early late pass date!
The key to old and off-piste is speed control. Let 'em go by.

See you out there...

looking to plan my annual sun valley trip and was poking around to see how expiensive the inn/lodge were and they have zero availability 2/23-2/26 (presidents day is 2/20). Any idea what's going on that weekend and I should probably pick another weekend?

What’s better than powder days while the kids are still in school and before the special people arrive?

The only thing better would be having younger legs ...

Aw, man, that sucks, don't beat a guy down when he's already down. For someone who has done so much for the sport and progression of the sport, seems like Jeremy still can't catch a break.
Poor guy, I truly hope he gets the help he needs and gets back to charging on the hill. Lots of friends in the WRV hopefully feel the same way.
The sun came out right after they opened the bowls. Best day of the year, again.
