Doesn't she know that all skis are rock skis?
My trucks have all been rock skis, first Tacoma was in Moab first weekend we owned it, second Tacoma was in the Uintas the first weekend, current Chev 2500 got a rocker panel dinged up on the way to Ding and Dang slot canyons first weekend.
Her’s, apparently not….
Friend drives MB sedans. He's on his 4th. This time around the dealer started calling and asking for his next move but started the bidding where they usually end up. He was happy so, not playing hard to get, said no thanks. They called back the next week with a better offer. And the next week with an even better offer. I understand the basics of deal volume, but at some point it just seems silly. I guess if there's no supply...
Yep, cut me a check in the time it took to walk up to Chick-fil-A and back (about half an hour)
Interesting. Thanks.
The rundown was Carfax (they refer to dealers who will contact you by email/text), Carmax, Carvana, AutoNation, KBB & Edmonds (they refer as well), Vroom & CarGurus (both offers were a joke), the dealer I originally bought it from, and the "we'll buy your car" link on a few other local dealer's websites.
The top two were Autonation and Carvana. I've sold a car to Carvana before, and they're a total shitshow. Can't seem to get the paperwork right, want to zoom meet with a notary (how do they not have their own?!), plus I'm outside of their pickup zone, so I'd have to drive to their hub which is in the middle of nowhere (they rent space on the Manheim auction lot, so you literally do the deal on the hood of the car)
Autonation emailed an offer as a pdf attachment, and I received a follow-up email from the specific dealership's "Acquisition Manager" a few minutes later. We arranged a time, switched to texts to make it a little easier to communicate in real time. I was skeptical of the firmness of their offer, and half expected them to nitpick and backpedal, but after a test drive, and good look over, they were true to their word. The only slow part was that they run the paperwork through their head office in Florida (that's when I went for lunch). They gave me a paper check, but mentioned they could do Zelle instead - which in retrospect, I should've done, because my bank held the check for a while.
The third best was Carmax, followed by a few dealerships. Everything else was super low.
Yeah, the dealers don't add much of anything for it, so I took the topper off mine. It's taking up space in my garage. Gonna put it on offerup & CL.
edit: agree that's a little low for a '20. Which trim level?
Basically highest trim below pro. No sunroof or sound upgrades. Otherwise everything else.
I just hate selling shit but am pretty ready to sell it. I have too many vehicles and this one is too nice for me. I need a beater work truck. This thing is basically a $40k dog house at this point.
I like my taco but it’s worth more than I like it. Been thinking about selling it for a year. Anybody wanna buy a Go Fast?
I got the cheapest Taco but even that had lots of creature comforts n stuff,
it wasn't like buying the cheapest ranger with rubber floor mats, rolling up the windows by hand and no cruise
oh the humanity
Just for shits and giggles I entered my 2006 Sequoia into Carvana, they offered me $225. I mean, why even bother? Lol
Ran into a teardown of the 5.7. Things that amuse me. Ledgendary toy engine from the 22re to the 3.4 to this. Sucks that people don't take care of them.
My family had that one growing up. No power steering, No power windows, manual tranny, no AC or radio. Spedometer only went up to 85mph, and its actual topspeed on Hwy was around 68. I drove it for a year living in san francisco- had a helluva time parallel parking that thing on hills.
This is really helpful, thank you. It's an easy way to start, so I've been putting in the details on my truck onto several of these sites, and am getting dealer emails now. So far, Carfax's offer is the highest (more than Carvana by about $5K). Though I entered "sell" (not "trade) into Carfax's system, it generated an offer stating "trade" value -- so I don't know if that'd be different if I were to sell outright vs trading in.
Carfax's trade-in offer is higher than I paid for the truck. So right now, the only thing stopping me from grabbing it is that I don't currently have another vehicle to drive. I may be car shopping today...
Carfax generated a retail number for me of ~$39k. I actually laughed when I saw it. That's ~$4000 over what I paid new (including add-ons that have no resale like the rubber bed mat and the stupid dealer etch that was already on the truck when I saw it). The dealer that contacted me from that referral came in at 34something.
Another anomaly was that either Edmonds or KBB's referral went to Carmax, who came back with a lower number than my direct offer from them. I guess they're paying a commission.
Be thankful Carvana isn't in the running.
I bought a new 1981 22R manual 4X4 'yota, and drove it as a daily driver until 1997, but I'm sure glad I don't have to drive one anymore. Gutless engine and a bouncy ride. I paid roughly 10K.
Same.
87 std cab, 22r, roll up windows, 5 sp, new off the lot in 87. $11k ish.
Beat the living shit out of that poor thing. RIP
I assume your are talking about a stripped Ranger ?
by 2010 post credit swap crisis Ford was selling a stripped Ranger for 19K by knocking 6600 $ off, this was 4x4 4L V6 5spd or auto, PS, even had AC so it was not really that stripped, Ranger was probably the cheapest 4x4 you could buy in N.A. at that point
After 29 yrs I think 2011 was the last year of Ranger due to being unrefined/ not able to make safety regs and according to decling sales figures nobody actualy wanted a compact PU anymore, so Ford was just going with F-150
the people who think a 2022 hilux would be cool are on drugs, not enough people would buy it for ford to make money
people want a midsize Taco
2022 Hilux is actually a pretty good truck. I've seen lots of them in Mexico. You can get them with a turbo diesel too.
Tacomas are a USA & Canada product only.
Ford makes the Ranger again, AFAIK.
I had a 94 Ranger regular cab, that was probably the best vehicle I ever owned. It had the larger 4L, V6 in it, that thing had some serious power. And it was a tank, super reliable. I'd probably still be driving it if I never had a kid. But car seats and regular cab truck aren't a good combo.
I've bought from them as well. One had very recent poorly painted bodywork (obviously sent it back - which was surprisingly easy). The other was damn near perfect with very low miles. The car I sold them was in no-lie excellent condition as well. They dramatically overpaid for that one.
I like the concept, but their execution is extremely hit or miss.
All the way down there? That's interesting. I guess I haven't been getting out lately.
edit: did some reading, and apparently they started selling Tacomas in a handful of non-North American countries when the 3rd gen premiered in 2015.
Those new Rangers are junk. Have them in my shop from time to time. Just start working on them and you quickly realize they are built like crap. And the front end looks so stupid, like a Ford Escape front end on a truck. So weird.
One of my friends has a hilux RHD suv (4runner). That thing is awesome. He drove it down the Baja last winter.
the old 4L V6 in the Ranger made only 200hp, was pretty low tech compare to Fords 3.5 L eco-boost which is making 300+ hp
but the 4L never broke, in fact nothing broke and I did nothing ( not even a tuneup ) to it cuz Ford had worked out all the bugs after 29 years
If you google around there are old hi-lux & even ranger still being made in other parts of the world but not in NA cuz of the chicken tax, you can't buy a cool old diesel hilux cuz of the chicken tax and actualy they probably arent that cool for N.A.
I think Ford realized they were leaving money on the table getting rid of the Ranger with no replacement and expecting the F-150 to do it all. Yes they do make another Ranger but now its more a Tacoma like size and its got a 2.3L eco boost which doesnt thrill me
Rav4 knocked F150 off the pedestal of best selling vehicle in the US. Guessing the Ranger canibalized some of the F150 sales though.
Well, I'm at the Honda dealer trading in the F350 longbed crew cab monster for a Ridgeline. They're giving me more than I paid 1 year ago, which covers almost 100% of the add ons (mats, bed cover, assorted things), and I had use of it for a full year.
Paying MSRP for the Ridgeline is a little painful, but they're giving me $11K cash back from the Ford, so it's all good.
Right on El Chup! $11k buys a lot of gas.
maybe the turbo version is better but I drove the non turbo diesel Surf on a shuttle and it was seriously lacking in power so the most it could do fully loaded with boats & bodies on the hyway was 60 mph
I know at some point the owner had engine trouble which cost $$$$ and in retrospect she would have been better off buying an N. A version
There are lots of them up here, I think up here its only 15 yrs before they can be imported to Canada while down there its 25 ?
Up front it may look like you will save all kinds of money running a diesel from japan I think it often works out different, IMO its not a good idea to buy a vehical joe at the local garage does not know how to fix/ would rather not have to work on
