As a food professional I'm absolutely shocked that this place is still in open. Went there once with some friends after a round of golf and I refused to eat there. I've never seen a more disgusting restaurant. And I've traveled in many third world countries that lack refrigeration. I haven't ate a bite of McDonalds since the 90's and would eat the shit out of that crap if forced to choose between the 2.Quote:

Just had philidelphian last night. They cleaned up they place a bit. No explosive poo. Its always packed. The fries are good.

Georgia , but my gf lives in Manhattan and grew up in Long Island. I’ve had a lot of incredible pizza in the city , big league pizza snob. I’m not saying you should listen to me but I eat a lot of pizza during the 15 or so times I’m in NYC per annum
I go to big apple pizza on 33rd. Este is decent but gives both myself and my wife the shits. Pizza nono is good too, but a little trendy. (or a lot trendy)

I think it’s bc they aren’t afraid to skimp on ingredients I.e. Marzano tomatoes , not the cheapest tomato strain, but unequivocally the best for pizza
I like the pie. The combo is yum. In high school we used to go there and order soda, and hover by people who were not going to finish their pizza, and swoop in and eat. Classy I know.

Interesting perspectives
Go to any legit NYC pizza joint I.e. Gino’s in Mahasset , Joes in the Village etc and you will see they offer a variety of slices I.e. vodka slice , gradmothers pie, buff chicken alongside traditional offerings. Old world AF. The true way
Oh I know they offer them. Gotta appease the public. But I believe you must judge any pizza joint solely on their plain cheese slices. If they can do that excellently then the other will likely be great too. It's really all about the crust for me...firm yet chewy. Good sauce counts for something too. Has to be kinda sweet for pizza good cheese goes without saying.

Arguably the best pizza in DC, Vace's cheese always mystified us. It was so much better than anyone else's. Finally (years later for some reason) I actually asked the pizza cook lounging outside on a smoke break what the secret was. He said it's Polly-O string cheese mixed with a sprinkle of Romano.
Recommendations for somewhere downtown for tomorrow night? Open to all food types.

lake effect on 200s has good food and is pretty casual, can be awkwardly quiet at times though. poached peaches w/feta are good there. the patatas bravas are ... different but also good.
avenues proper is up the hill a bit but excellent. proper burger / chx kale salad ftw.
white horse (next to whiskey street and owned by them) is newer and also pretty good. they have a decent spread of americana. oysters, buffalo cauliflower, etc.
can never go wrong with takashi either. all imo tho
It’s not quite SLC, but Lucky Slice in Ogden and Farmington is the best pizza in Utah. No question.
In SLC I like Pizza Nono and Pie Hole down on State.
Hub and Spoke is a great breakfast joint.
Has anyone experienced the Saturday Cubano at Beltex? That’s next on my hit list.
I have not had the Cubans but have been meaning to interested to see how the bread is. Having spent a fair share of time in Miami with a Cuban family I've had a few Cuban sandwiches and media noches. Have grabbed steaks from beltex, they were good.

yeah, eva more of a traditional restaurant, whitehorse more of a "bar" in the slc sense (plenty of tables/waitservice still but also a physical bar and a moderate amount of communal seating), I like em both
rumor is eventually whiskey street ownership is gonna knock out part of the wall between whiskey st / whitehorse so they only need a single liquor license for the 2 spots, then build an additional restaurant someplace else

edit: also I think it is possible that I have eaten at bagel project every day since the first time I tried it...? being ~3 mins from my house doesn't hurt but omfg, the egg&cheese + the works on an everything bagel is the absolute bomb

Tickles at 3875s 900e has strong to quite strong gyro platters for cheap, but the baklava... O the baklava is money.

just had caputo's (15th/15th) hot pastrami, god damn. might be better than feldman's, or at least on par. their beer selection is small and exquisite. recommended.
