They either just came out with or are just about to come out with a new Samsung, so the older Galaxy Nexus and S3 should be available cheaper, they do everything you can reasonably expect a phone to do. Battery life sucks though. I'd give up features for battery life.
Any updated thoughts on a new phone?
I have a Galaxy S3 that I've had for about a year and I'm done with it. I've had intermittent issues with the micro-SD card (tried two different ones) and recently it just lost everything on the card. I've also replaced the phone twice because the screen doesn't work in cold weather (40* or below, I would guess), which certainly isn't good for skiing. And then the group text (all my friends have iPhones) works with GoSMS, but isn't as seamless as I would like. Currently on Verizon with ~9months left on contract: thinking of cancelling contract, selling phone, jumping to AT&T Family Plan, getting an iPhone 5S. Family plan should also help save ~$40/month.
How's the iPhone 5s? Hot spot work well? Any AT&T service issues for Front Rangers?
I just want a phone that works, and by all indications, iPhones do that (I previously had a iPhone 3, IIRC).
Bummer about loosing data. How do you know it's the phone and not the micro-SD card? What brand cards? A friend had problems with SD cards and a camera. The problem went away when he switched to Sandisk.
When I took my Galaxy S3 skiing last year I kept it in an inside pocket when not in use and had no problem. I kept it there more for protection from getting hit and to make sure it stayed dry.
iphone??? Different strokes for different folks. Bought another Blackberry, the Q10 and could not be happier. Has wifi phone for when I am out in the boonies and I can type on the REAL fucking keyboard faster than any bs screen phone.
So you're the one.
Hahaha.
I'm on a six year old Blackberry.
Check it ... it plays AND records. Move fast on this one.

apropos; discussing at the bar tonight w/ a guy who had a roommate who somehow copied vhs tapes to his computer, then streamed this on the internet. This was circa 1995. must have been some hi def stuff!

I'm not sure it's the phone...it might be the micro-SD card, but I've tried two. Can't remember which, one was a Sandisk and the other was a good brand too. I thought I was done with the problem a few months ago when I swapped to a new card, but then last week it crashed on me. Just frustrating.
Do you use a screen protector? A friend was saying screen protectors affect the phone's use in cold weather.
My phone spent most of it's time inside my jacket and never got very cold for very long.
I have the samsung flip cover. It hinges off the back of the phone.

Anyone using a Motorola phone running jelly bean android. This fucker is lagging and stalling like a champ. I start banging away on the keyboard and it doesn't post the first letter till the word is almost done. Its got serious hangups. Only seems to be on this phone. I have had 3 androids. You hit an app or browser and it can take a good 7-10 seconds to open.

^^^Maybe reset it and/or check for software updates???
Try turning off animations in your developer options. Also, some keyboards lag...even the stock Samsung. Try Swype. I've found it to be very responsive.
Or If you want your phone to reach its full potential, root it and install a custom rom that isn't ruined by carrier bloatware.

Can you buy a Samsung S4 Active on ebay or at Best Buy or something and use it on Verizon? I want a waterproof phone and I really don't want another Casio (I had two, they were tough but also sucked), which seems to be all that Verizon offers.
If it isn't CDMA, it won't work on Verizon's network.
Bobby/Todds - Interesting stuff, thanks.
Went into AT&T today and I'll make the switch in two weeks when with the family for the holidays, as it's just way easier to do it in person. Will likely sell/trade in the S3 at that time.
Anybody have any experience with Kyocera phones? I still want a waterproof phone (and it seems Verizon is never going to get the S4 Active) and the Kyocera Hydro Elite is available for Verizon.
why so hung up on the waterproof? i put my phone in a zip lock baggie. there seem to be a few waterproof covers. I do know you boat - get a good phone and buy replacement insurance - shitty phones suck
I'm on this waterproof kick because of the boat - I have a navigation app on there for backup to the main system, plus all the info for my towing insurance so it would be nice to know the phone will work if shit hits the fan. I've been doing the zip lock thing but a good phone that's waterproof would be a little bit more elegant of a solution. But I'm not gonna buy a shitty phone just because it's waterproof, and I'm so far into google world that an iphone and a good waterproof case doesn't seem like a good answer either. Maybe I'm wrong on that.
Don't forget that a waterproof phone isn't waterproof if you're swimming to shore... 30 minutes at <1m depth. Even the waterproof cases are limited.. The Otterbox preserver is 30 mins at 2m. For boating, I'd still be using a zip lock at least, or more likely one of those fancy floating waterproof boxes.
After a run I just walk into the ocean listening to my tunes to cool off with my S4 Active. Having that water resistance is a major plus for me personally. Not having to baby the device, bringing it in the shower for the radio, not caring if leaving it around kids with sticky juicy fingers, etc. Once you have a phone that can handle a little splash, you'll never want another device. And it's not like the S4 active is a shitty phone, the way most "tough" cameras are shit.
LifeProof cases are rated 60 minutes at 2 meters.
But for boating I take a small dry bag for electronics, keys and wallets. Keep dry things dry, and it floats.

They're saying the new S5 is waterproof down to a meter...probably don't want to take it swimming or anything but it should be fine for splashes.
Well my quest is over for now, I didn't know Lifeproof made cases for Samsung. At $52. it's a lot cheaper than a new phone.

I just bought a $30 flip phone yesterday, It's like being super cool in 2001 again.
I have a S4 with a life proof case. Great not having to worry about water and I did take some underwater pictures with it. The downfall is the speaker for the phone sucks with the case on. If you want to talk to someone on the phone better have a external mic of some sort or take the phone out of the case. If you always use headphones(comes with an adapter that keeps things water proof when headphones are plugged in) with a mic or a bluetooth setup for the phone it is not a problem.
Blah blah blah my phone is my second dick. Lemme touch it. Blah screen ackkk The apps
Aghhh snapdragon prosseser wit deluxe screen n xtra baddery life
My new fone haz to look good. In my pants. On my face. Is it nice tho
Record players are still cool.
No sweat.
