My girlfriend has been making alton browns regular recipe for years. I just sent her this aged recipe. Cant Wait! I dunno how any of you guys drink the stuff from a cardboard jug. Once youve had the homemade there is no comparison.

I just saw it in the supermarket today. It is one of the few times that I'm happy to be reminded that I'm lactose intolerant. I did however see almond and soy egg nog, which has me a tad curious.
Jealous. I'm finding being in the South, Nog season is a solid 4 weeks behind here.
Give me United Dairy Farmers Nog any day of the week. Assholes on FB have already been posting that it's out.
I luv me sum Nog
Promised Land is good stuff.

I love Montoya rum!
Barf.
Made five quarts last week and will probably make another five at the end of the month. Ill be popping open one of the two quarts I saved from last year at our Ullr party this Friday.
Made the monthly resupply run to Costco, grabbed a 1/2 gallon of eggnog. Yum
Bumping this thread so that KQ can post her egg nog recipes.
Don't know. Bump for KQ.
I luv me sum egg nog
I poured a pint of nog last night. Went for a sip about a minute after I poured it and had already finished it off. I might have a problem.
Made Ruhlman's recipe this year - did Alton Brown's last year - and holy shit it's boozy. I've let it age for 30 days and it's still boozy as hell. I mean I love me some bourbon but this is like bourbon + eggs. Anyone else get that? (To be fair I haven't served it with meringue on top). Alton's seemed much more balanced. Thoughts?
Reviving this thread, the one about trying not to be fat reminded me of this one...
Made Alton Brown's recipe today. I cut it in half and I was still amazed at how much booze went into it. First time attempting the aged egg nog thing, so it's possible that the shock came from seeing all the liquor I'll drink added at once as opposed to liberal small amounts put into each glass.
Had a sip today and it was fairly boozy, will be interesting to see how/if it mellows out.
Made a double batch about a month ago that's been sitting in the fridge for a month and a bit. Xmas gifts for everyone now. I'm going to drink myself sick off this stuff.
Lactose intolerant? Doesn't matter. Vegan? Sucks to be you. Don't drink? Too bad.
nog + peppermint + ice cream = heaven
Outside of "The Turn" bump this is my next favorite... I fucking love the Nog and did not get into making my own until I found this thread... I have done Altons recipe and just back off on the booze and the shit is money...
I love this time of year...!
Alton's recipe is good IMO, just let it age and the booze flavor mellows. I also use just bourbon vs the 3 different boozes recommends
Costco gots the NOG!
Drink up!
Bought our first quart of the season on Monday! Nog season is upon us!
I, uh, I procrastinate a bit. I do. So, about three years ago, (and I'll have to look back and see who posted the Alton Brown recipe first) I made a double batch. He really fucked up that recipe, skipping back and forth between pints and cups. My first advice is to convert all the measurements to either oz or ml before you start. Anyway, I was drinking when I made that batch three years ago, and fucked up ridiculously. Probably doubled the alcohol. It was too strong to drink, and split between half pint and pint mason jars. Today, I finally figure out I needed to either fix it or throw it, so i made another double batch. Then, time to split the old over half gallon jars and water it down with the new. My friends got some as gifts, but we're too scared to try it. Well, I took a sip of the old, and almost nutted myself. It was amazing. Never had anything like it. Still way too strong for more than small sips, so I went ahead and folded it into the new. Still, drinking three year old dairy product was pretty trippy. Can't wait to let this batch go till 2020!!
Edit: Based on the wife's nagging about it being three years old, I thought it was. Looking back at this thread, and the questions I was asking in 2014, it looks like it's actually two years old.
I've got 2 pints of homemade nog in the back of my beer fridge that have been sitting there untouched for 2 years now. Been kinda reluctant to drank them cuz I was concerned that doing so might inadvertently kill me. But now there's a stranger on the innertubes saying he just had some similarly aged nog and not only did he survive, he enjoyed it. Hmmmm. Maybe I'll bust out a pint after Christmas dinner this year and see if I can dupe our college aged cousin into having a go at it with me. Worst case we end up in the er for a good ole fashioned xmas stomach pumping. Amirite?
Not surprisingly, 8 day old egg nog is still terrifically boozy but it tastes nothing like it did a week ago. So delicious.
No need for whipped cream with pumpkin pie when this stuff is around.
I'm planning on making some aged nog this year.... gonna have to get on that this weekend so it has a little time to mellow by xmas.
Tapped into the first jar of this year's supply. Aged 2 months. Still a little harsh. Next year I will make a batch at the beginning of July for Thanksgiving/XMas.
I love this stuff.
Serious Eats pretty much debunked the idea that there is any benefit to prolonged aging of egg nog. I'll trust Mr. Lopez-Alt 100 times out of 100 compared to that shithead Alton Brown.
i enjoy nog too but some of the posts in this thread are perverse
Still haven't had my eggnog shot yet.
Doesn't feel like holidays until I get my eggnogs!!
