Probably not better than the original, but really cool none the less.
Feeling Good cover by Muse is better than original by Nina Simone

Social Distortion - Ring of Fire (Johnny Cash)
Killswitch Engage - Holy Diver (Dio)
The Offspring - Next To You (The Police) not sure it's better, but it's well done for sure
Can't remember if I posted this one back when the thread started but it's one of my favorite covers of all time. Turn it up.

One of the finest... love that one, too.
PM Dawn's "You Got Me Floating is another great track on that album. I always thought it'd make a great song for a ski flick:
Tipp and I saw about a 23 minute live version of that ^^^ with about 50 other people at the 9:30 Club in DC a few years ago, it was pretty mind-blowing.
Henry Kaiser does a lot of killer covers:
Not better. Well maybe?

This song was pretty much goin 24/7 on a hall somewhere in my boarding/reform school fall 1981. Helped that a classmate could play ANYTHING van halen note-for-note.

"Knocking on Heaven's Door" by Warren Zevon when, well, he was.

Had the pleasure of seeing Iggy Pop last weekend, 68 years old and he absolutely killed it. I hope I look that good when I'm 40. Anyhow, not really a cover, Iggy and David Bowie co-wrote China Girl together, Iggy put his version out first but everyone tends to remember Bowie's version which was released after. This was taken from SXSW in Austin last month.

since nobody appears to have linked it, or maybe the link is now broken

and holy shit I just got chills listening to that.
^That is awesome. They replayed the 1993 SNL performance this weekend and we just happened to tune in. Nirvana and Charles Barkley.
Yeah, and check this out. ^That one reminded me of this VU cover:

acid king cover of BTO
MM coover of BS,,,maybe not better but really cool...
I've always liked this one. For quite a while in Boston Evan Dando was going to be the next big thing.

That is pretty good. I barely know Dando or the Lemonheads, but this cover has always blown me away; it just hits me right in the feels. Actually, every cover on the album is righteous. Probably because Gram Parsons was that good.

That Lemonheads cover was put to good use in a classic Scorsese tracking shot in Wolf of Wall Street:

Dude. The Lyres? I love you man.
Knew you'd like that one.
The bass player from Romeo Void is a friend - he really likes that one too. He fancies himself a Kinks fan but hadn't heard it before it came up on my player one day.
I played this one (a live version) in the other thread not too long ago, but hey. Kinks.

This should have been mentioned by now; apologies if it already has...

All the better because the video includes Jessica Hahn, of Assemblies of God fame.
