sheeeet, i forgot about the summit, I guess my broke ass can still come... I remember hearing about someone driving up from n. Va, Washington, baltimore. If that is still happening and you want to carpool let me know, or if anyone else around wants a ride i should be able to help.
Some tips on a cheap place to stay, some that still wants to split a room? a couch maybe? (I see above posts, and if anyone still needs someone to split with let me know about the prices. I need to get a round trip figure together to ensure I can come up with the money and get off work, but it shouldent be a problem)
anything else I'm missing??
thanks in advance for your help, I will keep looking over the thread to see what has been posted and get caught up
Read the other thread too Droopy. Half price lift tix and more...Quote:

Things are filling in and the woods are starting to get good. If housing becomes a problem I have a bunch of floor and some doggy couches on the other side of the Notch, only catch is Sat and sunday I work nights till about 10:00ish.
sequoiashan et al....
I'd like to do some touring into the notch, however my BC/Avie skills are lacking. And with the recent loss up there, I'm not so sure that I'm really ready to step out there without those kinds of skills. Are their any more experienced maggots who would be willing to take a couple of jongs out and show us the ropes?
I'm definitely in... who wants to find the room?Quote:

Plenty of lines in the Notch with less exposure, don't worry I wouldn't think about leading anyone out that way especially those who I have never seen make a turn. But my thoughts on the tragic accident was that is was an accident. It could have happened almost anywhere, even close to the boundaries.
Very true. It takes a pretty solid effort to get to dangerous areas.Quote:

its likely we will want to ski in several groups, so as not to loose people.Quote:

Small groups are the only way to ski in the woods. In a crew 15 deep I would not want to be anywhere near the back of the pack, entire lines would be tracked in a single shot. But rest assured if the weather cooperates there is plenty to go around, we got the light side, the dark side and we could even hit up the Underhill side with a shuttle waiting at the bottom. And conditions update after a few laps in the Notch this morning: well we got a great base to work with, what was full on pow has morphed into a layer of frozen over mashed potatoes with some wind blow on top. All in all not too bad, damn fine improvement over the first part of the season. The chin is looking well plastered as well, but the ol' blackout is coming so I'm at Smuggs or on skins bound for the next week.
good to know its skiing okay. gives me a bit more hope for some touring this blacked out hell weekend.Quote:

there are lots of good places to meet up with people.
Just throwing my $0.02 in as well. Just to say I'm in agreement with small groups. No way would it be any fun to ski with a huge group in those lines.
If it comes down to it I would be willing to lead a group over at Smuggs or off the backside of big spruce.
Today wasn't bad but kind of wierd snow. The initial snow we got yesterady was so wet that it got pretty crusty as the temps fell and lighter stuff piled on. So it was like 3 inches of fluff on top of semi breakable crusty mashed potatoes. And the bros slayed in it.
The backside of Spruce looks interesting. Need avy gear? Also, can you take Smuggs lift back up?

There is stuff a bit closer but I'm thinking we need some serious snow for the best of it, and a good crew. Some of you may know the lines I'm talking about, great skiing but serious exposure from the ice this season. I'll check things out a time or two before the summit to be sure, as well as a few other less skied lines in the area closer to Stowe.
You can also buy a one-way lift ride @ Smuggs for like $5 - last time I went to buy one and they gave it to me for free.Quote:

No avy gear needed, packs optional. All terrain can be accessed via hiking.Quote:

I think it's up to the person to honestly tell their ski buddies what their limits are, especially if they've never skiied together before.
And be ready for a surprise here & there! This has happened to me before where somebody tells me "don't worry, it's not too bumped up!" and it's volkswagon moguls which I cannot ski. But I always manage to pick my way out of really bad situations like that. What I don't like about it is the time-suck aspect. I could be doing 5 fun runs which I could handle during the time I'm picking my way out of a white-knuckle scenario. But I guess you learn something there too, so it's okay.
Bottom line is: I think the best plan is pick a group to ski with. The group will naturally break into "faster & better" and "less faster and better." And I think people are cool enough here that they will wait up and help ya out if you need to take it easier. I found this to be true when I went to the Tahoe summit, and skiied w/ folks who were light years above me in ability but still took the time to slow down and ski w/ me and help me out. There is a certain reward that comes w/ helping a lesser skier along to push a boundary or teach them a new skill. I am sure many folks here will rise to the occasion and do that.

I'll hang with you guys then. On a different note, I'm looking forward to watching and learning from better skiers. There was not too many of those in Kentucky. On the stoke side of things, it's gonna be a wide open time. I even held off going to colorado three days earlier, just so I could attend.Quote:

I was largely kidding, as I'll be charging into the trees like a perturbed rhino. We'll see how that works out.
