Anybody going to be in the Timberline/Canaan area tomorrow and Monday? Snowshoe?
I'm driving somewhere in WV tomorrow morning, just not sure where.

At least 2-3 ft of settled snow, even in the meadow. Pretty incredible skiing for the midatlantic...

Was at Whitetail yesterday... heavy/ wet snow, but good times nonetheless.. started to ice up when the sun was getting low in the sky. If anyone else was there, I was the one eating shit on Exibition all day... I still suck at bumps- one of these days I'll be able to make it down a run.
bumpity.... heading to Blue Knob tomorrow, will be my first time there.. supposedly they have the most challening terrain in PA... we'll see what that means. Decent elevation, decent vert (for this area) though, should be fun.
hello mid-atlantic... looks like im visiting some family in DC for the holiday weekend and was wondering whats up with shenandoah? figured before i start the last minute research scramble id ask the locals to suggest the best areas to backpack sat, sun and mon approx 20-30 miles.
do i just pop on the AT or is there better park trails? yeh, i know better is subjective but im asking for your opinions!
plan to hit up campmor tonight to grab a book and some maps and what not so appreciate suggestions.
tia.
Left work yesterday afternoon to go to Winterplace for a bit of a warmup for the season. Got there at 4:30 to find out that they aren't allowing nightskiing until next week. WTF Wish their website would be a little more blatant about the no night skiing until Christmas week.
It was like getting ready to go on a date with a fat chick that you know puts out, but once you get to the restaurant you find out that she's going to take your $12 in Tudor's toll biscuits and you're not getting any tonight. That is Winterplace, the fat chick that doesn't put out.
Nukin in Morgantown right now (well Nukin for this area)
Timberline this weekend should be good.
If you're in Elkins Friday night CHeck out the Highland Prospects Grand opening.
Prolly should've popped this in here for a little stoke.

Awesome bump- last season was all-time, but lets see if we can keep this thread alive.

Any mags headed that direction this weekend? I'll probably be at T-line and/or Whitegrass. Would be good to ski with some folks, maybe get some people willing to photoslut...
will be at liberty or whitetail pretty much every day from saturday through mid jan
I'm heading up to Blue in the AM. Got close to an inch in Philly, maybe the Pokeys can get some tonite.
50/50 I'll be kicking around WG this wknd, saw nice looking clip up on the site today...things are filling in. Probably make the call tomorrow afternoon.
edit to add:
page top...needs a leettle stoke, eh?
Gravity at CV last Saturday, retrieving a friend's runaway ski, good for a laugh...just enough snow to not churn up too much grass & leaves.

plans change...driving down tonight, good chance I'll be at T'line tomorrow, if so I'll either be on beat up Bro's or black WorkStinx, white helmut w/ a couple WG stickies....or skinnin' WG on Bro's. Probably a meadow skipping tour w/ housemates on the leathers at WG on Sunday.
Starting for T-line early early from DC tomorrow, hoping to be there between 8-9. Bright blue jacket, white helmet, Line Prophet 90s or Moment Tahoes, tall and goofy, ask for change
Trees in certain spots starting to fill in:

^^^Sick. Wanna ski that place so bad, but need to know the right peeps...
Great powder in there!
Maybe it's just the video perspective but it didn't seem too steep in there contrary to what I've heard about Pharis.
Probably heading out to Timberline tomorrow, anyone else going to be there? Blue jacket/ black pants/ prophet 90s.
Probably hit up Kalame in the PM, sounds like it will be a tad windy.
Kalame? Yeah I saw that it's supposed to be a little windy, but around 15 mph from what I've seen- not too ridiculous. And I plan on spending a lot of time in the trees, so maybe the wind will just take some snow from the trails and dump it into the trees. :) You gonna be able to make it out at all? I could be convinced to go to Canaan instead..
Was really itching to get my new new black diamonds out. So tonight for a test run I went to winterplace. Found some nice stashes under the upper chairlift there. The trees were even skiable but I opted not to because of lack of light.
Not bad for having visited winterplace the last time in 1994.
I'll be in the valley for the weekend.
Made it to Kalame on Wed. for EPIC but BRUTAL conditions, 18"+ of WV fluff with waist deep drifts. No video of that day as it just would not have turned out. We even got stuck on the lift for almost 30 minutes in 40+mph winds. It was blower face shots all day! We poached the crap out of the trees and C lift line. Even nicer was the "snowday" $16 lift tickets and as I chatted a nice lady she gave me a couple $2 vouchers for Tslime the next day.
Thursday we went to Tslime to use the vouchers and the snow was still very good but not as good as Kalame. Friday was a low key backcountry day at our Piste Off Creek Hollow(POCH) ski area.

How bad did the rain fuck things up last night in Canaan Valley? Anyone?
Skiied all Sunday at Whitetail. Lines were packed from 11-4, but it was amazing how much it cleared out by 430. It was like a bell rang. Heading back on Jan 30.
Anyone have any suggestions on good instructors there? I could use a lesson to help me ski parabolics better (been trying to do it for about 3 years now after a 7 year skiing hiatus, but still can't carve properly).
Anyone been to Blue Knob this season? Significant snowfall is in the forecas, but their site indicates that most of the good stuff is closed. No pix or webcam, not sure if the trails/glades are closed today vs, been closed all season.
Dave's WX site indicates no loss of snow, still @ 12" on the ground, imagine it's pretty saturated from the rain and warmth and soon to be quite solid with the cold air on the way to lock it all down. Calling for 8" or so of fresh into Friday, guessing it'll be 6-12" of cold fluff over a fast & loud scrapey base for the wknd...probably a lot like it was two weeks ago.
I have been skiing Blueballs for 20+ years. A few things you can count on with them:
1) They lie about what is open just to get you to the top of that fucking mountain where you have no choice but to stay and spend money.
2) They have great terrain, but the fucking retards that "cut" the glades did so in such a manner (i.e. 2-3' stumps, throwing the cut trees to the side) that it takes a SHITLOAD of base to ski the trees in any safe manner.
3) The new owners are running things from California and the workers on the mountain are in LOW MORALE (unless something has changed since my last visit in 2008).
4) If that mountain can ever get its act together, it would be a great fucking mountain...but as it stands right now, it is the biggest piece of shit disappointment on the east coast.
And I truly love that mountain...
Don't count on them ever opening those glades unless they get a 2' dump (at least). I have skied the glades when they were "closed" (many times) and they actually deserved to be closed as it was truly dangerous with all of the trees strewn everywhere.
^^^
That is too bad to hear about BK, I have never skied there but intended to. Sounds a lot like Tslime, they had some really nice glades and the loggers came in to cut logs so they could pay bills and messed up a large area. It is skiable but not like it was.
Most ski areas just do not know how to manage glades to enhance the customers skiing experience. We have been cutting glade runs on a buddies mountain property for several years now, it is very labor intensive and dangerous. With only a handful of folks it takes time but we got some darn good runs in a few years. Next up we plan to start some mountain bike trails and cut a couple more traverse trails up the mountain so the skin track is not so steep and we can access other areas on the mountain. It really takes a lot of planning and fore thought.
I have skied both Tslime (I like that) and Blueballs glades...Tslime glades are 10x better than BK...if you can imagine that!
The people that work at BK are, if I were to generalize, total rednecks (worse than WV) and they don't give a flying fuck about what goes on. I wrote an email to BK recently to say that REI just opened a distribution center just south of the mountain...get some of those hippies involved in bettering that mountain!
It's just a damn shame. BK has some serious terrain but you need A LOT of snow to ski it.
WOW, that is a scary statement.
We have always tried to be nice and chat to the "lifties", over the years got to know a few. Some are a$$holes and most are not. To many its just a job and they are trying to make ends meet which I can understand. We most always say "Thanks" when they help you on to the lift.
