I'm out of town myself..
heading up to Hunter Mountain tomorrow, 6:30 AM. If anyone wants to share a ride and spring day pm me.
True, no woods skiing at Windham, but if you stick to the 3 trails to the lookers right of the top (Wedel, Wolverine, and Wheelchair) and just do laps on the the Wheelchair Double chair, you can have a great day on some steep stuff there. Like a "mini" front four at Stowe :D It's a family mountain and very few people ski those runs and take that chair, so there are no lines and waiting.
And they did a better job with managing their snow there this year after last year's washout 2nd half of the season.
And the Hunter is closer think makes me laugh. Yeah, by 7 minutes... Just sayin' :)
Do you mean they actually blew some finally? Because I skied Windham about two weeks after I skied Hunter early season, and whereas the latter already had west open Windham offered us basically one crowded route down the mountain.
I won't bash it if anymore though, maybe I've just been there the wrong days (icy, crowded, limited terrain, too many children, haha) or something.
I posted a TR on the EC roll call thread describing my Hunter experience today which was seriously top notch. Have you guys ever thought about a ski the catskills season pass? That might get me to change my tune and try some other places in different conditions. if I could buy a reasonably priced blackout pass or something so I could ski with my friends who have passes or prefer other places, I'd be all for it.
Anyways.... I hear Belleayre got permission to ski really late this year, maybe the third week of April. They might even still be blowing snow, so maybe it will be hikable in May? That would kick serious ass.
Yeah, they sucked it up last year. Hopefully they'll open this weekend for the last weekend of the season as they did a better job this year keeping the snow better, longer. Keep me in mind for next season if you are heading up - I'm there most weekends and would be happy to show you the best of the worst (and I'll treat you to a beer at our place at the end of the day) ;)
belleayre looks covered, but they are through. bad source...:nonono2:
I'd love to do Tucks next weekend. Not tomorrow, but heading up 4/17 or 4/18 from NYC. How is that for people?
This might work.
I'm in Utah or else. . .
Who is in for Tucks this weekend?
Wish I could but at a Bachelor Party down south.... looking at doing the following weekend though...
Okay... maybe this weekend sucks, but how is the following weekend?
Dudley, gm, are you in?
Bdawg, I'm still down for this weekend if you want to go. Let me know. Just mounted up some Dynafits which I'd like to try.
Bump.
I'm taking AIRE level 1 in January via EMS school in NH. Can't wait to get back on my board.
How you getting up there?
Anyone going to the Warren Miller premier in NYC on Sunday night? I'm going with a whole crew... PM to meet up for drinks and talk about snow afterwards!
what are the details? I could be down......
Chiming in kind of late in the thread, but I just moved back to the east coast after spending last season in SLC, so I don't know many east coast maggots. Looking to meet new people and do some good skiing(backcountry/touring and resort). I live right outside of the city in New Jersey. Stowe and Gore are my two go to resorts. Am very familiar with both of those. Would love to ski Jay and MRG more this season, especially because their lift tickets are like half of what Stowe's cost. Anyway, I have a car, and am looking to do as much skiing as I can afford, so hit me up if you want to go.
I'll be up all over MRG and the MRV, and wouldn't mind a tour of "stowe" one day....Do you ever take day trips to the catskills midweek? Having someone in the passenger's seat always helps to make sure I don't fall asleep at the wheel after skiing powder all day. Let's get this winter started already and welcome back.
skip the warren miller film, the editing was subpar and the segments were just okay.
Hello NYC mags
been lurking for a bit, with the weather starting to turn I'll jump in.
I'm good for trips and some midweek too. In brooklyn with AWD vehicle.
Curious about the EMS AIRE I class, too. Might sign up for a weekend in february. Let us know how it is bdawg.
Would like to try and start touring a little this winter, if anyone doesn't mind dealing with a nOOb.
Hey Rip - I'm out of town until Dec 14, but will be up for some resort and skin trips this year. If the Catskills get a big dump there's some (modest) backcountry to be found around Belleayre and Plattekille. I'm probably going to scout Highmount sometime this winter - it's a closed resort next to Belleayre. Always up for New England too, especially with NYC mags with a car..
Have car, will travel. In NJ, about 8 mins over the GWB.
Met up with one dude from TGR last year for a weekend trip to Jay, but tore my ACL on the 3rd run of the trip trying to keep up.... dude was wicked fast.
I'm stoked for winter!
new to east coast...would love to make some trips once snow is decent. just have to get my sh*t from denver.
in nyc...no car.
In NYC with AWD and ski box... considering a Thursday Opening day mission to Windham pending conditions and work flow.
Keep me posted on trips, I'm usually down.
:nonono2::nonono2::nonono2:windham....
just kidding.
i'll be at hunter though unless plattekill opens.
Little bit of spam...
I organized a full fledge euro ski lodge type dinner at a local restaurant art space just in case you can't make it to Le Trois Vallees this year.
There's a six course tasting menu ($35) while ski movies project on all four walls around the dining room. Vintage ski jumping to McConkey to Vermont filmmaker Chris Nelson.
Prizes from Sugarbush and Magic.

reservations recommended.
The menu sounds impressive, but I think I'd just be depressed when I stepped out into Williamsburg instead of the alps.
hopefully the booze will help with that... just don't eat any yellow snow or anything else you might find on the street!
Sick fire, I'll attend!
cool man, I will see you there!
Awright - there's finally some snow and I'm back in the states on Tuesday. I'm up for any and all dates in the next couple of weeks. If anyone is heading north in a car I'll split gas with you or else I'll take a sad sad Emilios bus trip to a sadder mountain. Up for skinning or resort as long as I can slide on it. Let's get started...
G
spent two days in the catskills, it was kinda sad because they had a lot of snow but it rained a bit over it so there was a really shitty crust on all the terrain.
I imagine that plattekill only needs another 6-12 to be in really good shape though. Outside of some misplaced turns deep on a tour I was floating on top of everything and didn't kill my bases too bad.
