Great thread, glad I found it.
We went to Scotland last summer and did a bunch of tours of various distillery's.
Oddly enough we picked up a bottle of the above 18 year old Caol Ila and I have to say I love that Scotch as a daily drink.
We also had a Highland Park 25 year old Scotch that was the best I have ever tasted. I just can't find it for sale and I am sure it is expensive.
Just remember... Scotch is not a shooter.
Here is my 2 cents..... Bowmore 12yr.
also worth a try

Yummy, that Balvenie DW 12.
I have to cast my vote for Talisker. Love It.
Recently I've been loving the single barrel ryes. So smooth and easy to drink... a lot of.
ok, i now officially think that I am in heaven. my two most favourite things have come into one, and it is GOOD!

drunken TGR posting to commence in 5...4...3....2...
the taste is strong. very strong. must be enjoyed like whiskey, not
like beer: slow and steady. the aroma is superb, pure islay. the taste
however has absorbed a lot of the charcoal from the cask. i wonder if
that's on purpose.
damn i just read this whole thread, realized that im a total scotch JONG.
Highland Park 20 yro, superb!
Hmmm Ardbeg is tasty.
Tasty I say!!!
Have a bottle of Laphroig i'd happily swap for Crown Reserve or possibly even Crown. Or anything Irish. Paging Jackson peaty Islay drinkers....
Its Scotch season.

high alcohol content, so you can't drink it _too_ fast ;)
Ugh. Scotch=nasty. Real men drink Malibu Bay Breezes.
For Canucks, the cheapest place, by far, to buy Scotch is at the Duty Free Americas shops. Coming back from a weekend trip to Seattle, I recently picked up 1L bottles of Ardberg and Dalwhinnie for 40% less than what 0.75L bottles would have cost at a BC Liquor store.
The two 1.14 L Crowns for $35 deal is also hard to beat.
The catch is that Canadian residents have to be out of the country for 48 hours.
I had a bit of a shock last weekend. went to my favorite bar which usually has 120 bottles of Scotch, and they didn't have Lagavullan. WTF?
