There's an article in the NY Times online today about E85. I thought it was pretty balanced as well as accurate.
If you don't have an online subscription, the link probably won't work:
Solution or Distraction? An Ethanol Reality Check
Summit - Amen to that (fuck Carter).
Since you're the nuclear whiz here, you should post about the relative safety of nuclear power and the success of breeder reactors in Europe.
While someone takes the time to convince me of the safety of nuclear breeder reactors (I'm generally pro Nuke when it comes to energy), I'd also like to see some info about the viability of nuclear powered co2 scrubbers.
Is this not technically possible and feasible to have nuclear plants remove co2 from the atmosphere?
The New York Times article points out that we have a fifty four cent a gallon tax on imported ethanol and that it would likely be a hard fight to have that removed.
I'd say it would be an impossible fight, not going to happen. Ethanol has never been about an alternative source of energy that is enviromentally friendly, its about creating a government subsidized industry. This article makes that clear.

As long as we have ethanol mandates, I'm probably opposed to removing the tarrifs as well, simply because I think that higher prices at the pump are the one thing that is currently helping us to actually reduce our dependence on oil - via reduced consumption.
