I'm a long time Thermic heated footbed user but the wires break and get annoying to have hanging around on spring days, so I decided to try the Sidas SET socks when I got some sock batteries on a mistake sale ($25 for a pair for the 1400B). I've previously tried the Hotronic XLP 2P and they were too thick.

The Sidas SET fit just like my ultralight socks in the toes, where is where I need the volume. Obviously the heating element does introduce some volume that a standard sock doesn't have, but it didn't bother me at all. Heating performance wise, I can't provide a good comparison since it was a warm day that didn't really call for heated socks, but my initial impression is that the socks provide more heat than the footbeds. Plus the form factor and fiddle factor is reduced.

Of course my ZipFits are already setup for heated footbeds so they aren't going anywhere, but if I had to do it all over, I'd go the heated sock route with these Sidas SET socks.

They feel and ski great. Thickness on a par with my trusty Darn Tough RFL's. Not as warm as the Lenz with the toecap, the heating element is a thin band instead of a patch over the toes, but they take the edge off for sure. Battery life is OK with the 1400 battery pack. Mostly using these when I ski my plug boots (Redster CS 130 Pro) because I need all the volume I can get, using the Lenz 5.1 which seem kinda thick but are OK on day #2 or #3 with my "all-mountain" boot which has a bit more room (Atomic Hawx Ultra 130 RS Pro).

I have [emoji638] sets of hotronics s[emoji640] batteries. I ski pretty much every day of the winter so heated socks aren’t an option. However I can’t find replacement elements for the s[emoji640] or s[emoji640]+ anywhere. Anybody have a line on some?

I bought the 6.1s with the rcb-1800 batteries late in the winter of last season. I added a pair of 5.1 socks last season as well and have used both in my Zipfit’s.
There is an an obvious difference in the thickness of the entire sock between the 6.1 and 5.1, I can feel the heating element on the 5.1 in my bigger foot but it’s not enough to bother me.
The day the 6.1’s arrived I grabbed the right sock and started to put it on, it caught at my calf and forefoot like most other ski socks have and I continued to pull up on the cuff like I had with all the other socks, when I heard the tear I about shit.
I would not blame the sock as this was 100% user error, the tear happened in the upper calf area with it being close to the reinforced section that covers the wires.
Once I had the sock off I grabbed a needle and thread. Most of my sewing experience took place in the late 80’s in an upholstery class, my first attempt to close the tear was terrible, my second attempt closed it with it feeling a bit tight on my upper calf. I finished the season with it being tight and ordered another pair of 6.1’s over the summer.
My next move will be asking my SIL for help or finding a tailor to fix it properly for me.
I have made every purchase from a shop in Slovenia at less than 50% of the cheapest price I found in North America, shipping to Utah took about 20 days for them to arrive.
The rcb-1800 batteries have had plenty of life left, I put the socks on a dryer at the end of each ski day and wash them as needed.
I would recommend them to anyone that suffers from cold feet.

I thought this shit with the numbers got fixed. Jesus, it's embarrassing.

Found some S four elements today. Loaded up and bought four pair, figure that by the time I run through them the batteries might be dead, and I’ll upgrade then, The only bad thing I’ve found about boot heaters is that once you have them it’s basically impossible to go without. My touring boots with intuition can handle cold, but they suck compared to a cork race liner. For riding lifts I need the heat.

I don't use heated anything in a touring boot cuz I seem to moving enough even at -25 to generate enough heat and I don't use the socks in the alpine boot until -7 ish so if I go without socks I use a thicker foot bed but YMMV of course

for the sock ripper I think you can get replacement socks, pretty sure I can for the Hotronic

While I didn't read all 5 pages, I would summarize it this way.

1. If you are someone who is always cold and will use heat every day whether it is cold or not, a traditional installed boot heat system built into the insole is the way to go.

2. If you are only cold on the cold days, a sock is the way to go. There is no installation, and you can use them for other activities. Some of the socks are quite a bit thicker than others. Don't buy boots to fit your socks, but rather your feet. Find socks that fit in the boots that fit your feet.

3. If you have no money and are cold, a boot glove with a chemical heat pack on top of the plastic, under the boot glove works quite well for $40.

4. Since Sidas owns and distributes both Dissent and Thermic, expect a version sometime. However, the challenges of putting on a compression sock and tugging on wires is a serious consideration.

5. There's always " It's a winter sport and your feet are supposed to be cold and wet".

Your results will of course vary.

even if you got money the chemical packs are a goodway to go, I still buy them by the carton to use in my gloves cuz the sticky back keeps the heater pack stuck in the glove while the actual glove heaters fall out on the snow

I love my hotronics. Probably one of the best ski purchases I’ve ever made. I absolutely ruined my toes in my younger years. I literally couldn’t ski how i want to ski (super tight fit) without them. Wish I would’ve bought some in my twenties and not been such a dirt bag as my feet would really thank me now.

Do you mean the ones that you have to slit the back of the liner for, or do they have another solution now? I've installed some of those, but never had the balls to do it myself. Probably gonna need new liners though. It's been warm and Salomon liners kinda suck ass.

I have a pair of hotronic XLP PFi 50 'Classic' socks and the under toe heating 'coil' is untenable in my ski boots - it's position and being able to feel the exact edges of the circular pad doesnt work for me. Looking online I see they have a different variant of the sock 'surround' but I cannot for the life of me figure out whether this version changes where the heating wires are placed around the toes.

Is the Bluetooth version of the Thermic battery worth the additional cost over the non-BT version?

I'm finally breaking down and getting some boot heaters. Found a good price on Thermics, wondering if the BT version is worth the extra $35-40. I assume the non-BT version just uses a switch on the battery?

I have em. I like the BT, I would hate to constantly be bending over and futzing with them all the time. The app makes it pretty easy. So I'd say they are worth it.

I already have BT speakers in my helmet so I'm futzing with my phone a decent amount anyway.

I have the BT version and don't use it.
I simply turn them on, put them on medium and forget about them.

the BT version gives you the motion detection thing. So it reduces the amount of heating automatically when it detects motion, then ramps it back up when you stop.
I've been told it saves significant battery.

The Play store reviews for the Thermic app are horrible - tons of complaints about the batteries not connecting via BT. Are you guys seeing those issues on your phones?

I definitely need a set for my zipfits. I had a couple of bad days in my 20s where I got minor frostbite on my toes and ever since then its been a battle. Probably grab some 6.1s

I decided to go with the non-BT Thermics. Bobleisure has them for $147 for the kit with the 1300 batteries; they also have good prices on the BT version, and the one with the larger batteries too.

Hopefully they ship to the US without incident. Plenty of solid reviews here at TGR for ordering from them, but adding in lithium batteries may change things.
