Introducing Raide: Light packs and apparel you’ll actually enjoy using.

If you’re not filling this pack I’m going to go ahead and say you probably should be bringing more stuff(first aid, a puffy that will actually keep you warm in the backcountry when stationary etc.) . I wish it was even bigger lol

This is the best pack out right now. It carries great and has all the features you need and want. Concierge did an amazing job and all my other packs are literally collecting dust in my crawl space.

The front pocket could have a tiny bit more 3d shape so you can easily stuff your skins in when the pocket and pack is full, this can get kinda of jammed up every now and then. I am also unsure if it needs the hole for large shovel blade necks. I use a BD evac 7 and always put it the other way because I’m worried about the jagged neck ripping my puffy.

I like the mesh pocket and wish it had a couple more going down. If you’re getting it full of snow you’re getting your pack full of snow and I’d say that’s not ideal.

The buckle takes some getting used to and you need to follow a order of operations. I’d probably prefer a normal plastic buckle, but it’s also nice feeling a bit more secure knowing it’s not going to break. I still think that I’d prefer the plastic buckle.

Oh, also the white pack needs black straps :cool:

What specifically did you use to tape this off?

I’m thinking about doing it myself, but with a pack as beautiful as this one I want to use some good material and not just slap some duct tape on there.

I'm not camlax, but I also taped it off. I used sail/kite repair tape since it adheres very well, is water proof, and doesn't leave much in the way of residue if you remove it

I also use it for all sorts of other gear repair (works wonders for rips and tears in gaiters, snags in tent walls, etc)

Anyone have a recommendation for a shoulder-strap water bottle holder that works on the Raide? I'd like to carry some bottles/soft bottles skimo-style on the Raide's shoulder straps.

SWB has a pretty good looking one, but the clips seem to call for a daisy chain on the shoulder straps. $20 https://www.swdbackpacks.com/product...shoulder-pouch

Or, CONCIERGE, maybe a new side item as a $20 add-on? This, and a phone/snack holder for the other side. And a hip belt pocket. Nice little trio of pocket accessories imo.

I have a collection of shoulder strap bottle holders that require a daisy chain and it is a little frustrating not to be able to use them on the Raide. My favorite are the Z-packs which are mesh, so they don't fill with snow. By far the best shoulder strap bottle solution is the Mammut system which is a stretchy pocket that stashes into the shoulder strap when not in use. It keeps the bottle nice and snug. Wish more companies would use a similar system.

Next Raide question -- the sternum strap is really short for me, and I don't have that large of a chest. I imagine the more barrel-chested folks straight up can't make it work. Does Raide offer a longer sternum strap? I doubt it, as it is bar-tacked onto a permanent fixture. Anyone else have this issue.

Other than these minor quibbles, love this pack.

I hated the sternum strap (mainly the buckle) so I disassembled it and put slightly wider webbing with a Magic Buckle on it there. Works great and haven't had any issues. Pics and more details in this post

Meter-man glad you’ve been liking the pack overall! I might be able to sort out a longer sternum strap. Shoot a message in on the website or instagram.

Regarding bottle holder we do not have one in the works. I’ll probably make one for winter 25/26, but plenty of options out there. It wasn’t included on the pack because I’m just not a fan of dangly things. On other packs in the past I have used the insulated hydrapak bottle with the handle and clipped that to the shoulder strap. Also check out the bottle holder from zpacks.

Also loving the pack.

For anyone wondering. You can fit a Shimoda Large DSLR camera cube in there. You have to slide it from the top, and it doesn't quite bottom out, but only about 1/2" of empty at the bottom. But you can slide your hand into the space though, so you could stuff a buff or soft things in there (a rain cover if you were German :-P )

Fo anyone wondering if they can run this with a small cinema camera rig, or with 300mm 2.8 type lenses, you're welcome.

The pack is WAY nicer than the Shimoda overbuilt bullshit packs.

Things to improve (opinion)

1. I just don't like the metal waste locker thing. Like an AVY pack, but annoying me for no reason. The amount of times that has swung against a train window or my kids' foreheads...

2. The chinch strap on the helmet flap could use a "roll-up and tie down" for the long tail. Like that Alpha FL packs.

3. The frame rods maybe come a little too high. It doesn't allow the top of the pack to fully fold in, to reduce top height. Very noticeable when I'm on a bike and trying to look back over my shoulder.


These are all minor and can DIY them with little effort. I fucking love how smooth the back panel zips are. I just love the pack in general. My minimalist heart believes the the Alpha FL 30 is my all time favorite pack, but my rational brain knows the Raide is just more practical.

Didn't get as much use as I'd hoped last season due to injury. Maybe 15 days and a hut trip. Waist buckle hasn't bothered me since I fixed the orientation and added a pull cord like others have done.

I've noticed that the shoulder straps sit wider and seem to splay outwards at the top compared to other packs. I typically don't use sternum straps unless bootpacking with skis on back - packs usually stay put without them. The Raide doesn't feel secure (descending) without buckling the sternum strap, and on the few days I've had it packed full/heavy and fully buckled I've gotten some discomfort that I believe is due to the width and splay(?) of the shoulder straps. Anybody else notice this?

The body of the Raide is wider than other packs in this class, but when comparing to a larger pack like an HMG, the LF straps are set significantly wider and pointed more towards the shoulders. I think this is what gives me more of the "slipping off the shoulders" feeling with this pack than others.

Any other details on what is changed for the next years pack? Been happy with my V1 but I was injured all season and hardly toured so this season will be its real first test.

You’ll have to wait for the release for the specifics, but happy to share we have 3 new pack models coming. One is a 30L that shares a lot of similarities to the 40L. The back panel and avalanche tool access gets some big improvements. There are a lot of smaller things that I’d say aren’t fixes of any issues, but just refinements that I think make the packs really in their own league i.e. better skimo carry, double hip belt pockets, independent ice tool carry, etc.

When is said release?

I'll be in for a 30L, fer shure!

Release should be coming around mid October. We’ll also be releasing a ski touring bib/pant that I’m incredibly excited about.
