The trolley system only goes as far north as UCSD (La Jolla). There is the Coaster heavy rail system that follows the coast north, though.

It would be pretty depressing to do that drive on a daily basis around normal work hours. If the freeways could handle that amount of traffic then the real estate in those towns would be even higher, they really are the nicest places to live in SD county.
Thanks, I'm torn about leaving Japan but it's a bit easier knowing we're going back to Point Loma.
I don't envy those tuition payments but the campus there is pretty incredible. We live about 10 minutes away and used to walk our dog daily along the cliffs just north of campus. They used to have the softball field directly on the bluffs overlooking the ocean, it was probably the nicest place for a game in the world but I think there was an issue where the field turned out to be partially on city land so they moved it up the hill. As of 5 years ago most of the field had been taken over by brush and wasn't nearly as nice as it used to be. Still an incredible place to walk and some of my favorite surf breaks sit just south of the campus. Enjoy those parent visits!
Baseball field is still right there…. Gorgeous. I got pummeled last time I was out there on Garbage break, and ya the tuition stings…. I’ll be out there in May, lemme know if you’re there and I’ll hit you up!Attachment 491590

Yeah, that's the new location but it used to be down below on the right side of the photo, a couple hundred yards below that scoreboard. A better and stronger player than me could have sent a decent pitch into the ocean.
We don't make the move until late July so if you're there in late summer reach out and let me know.
Totally forgot about this thread. The move to SD has been incredible. Met a girl that feels like it could go the distance, surfing has really started to click this fall and has been the first sport that might be as fun as skiing, and been making some real advances career-wise.
I’m spoiled living 3 minutes away from good surfing and a nice beach.
I’d consider staying long term if there was 1. A business opportunity that I could see myself being successful at and be able to get away from the desk 2. I could afford some space and still be near the ocean. Eh, idk, I still miss the skiing and seasons.
It’s expensive as hell and far from any good skiing, but man it’s going to be hard to leave. Just trying to enjoy it as much as I can while I’m here.
Happy to answer any questions
