Are you doing 500m of touring to absolutely send it? Go Gara. If you are touring anymore and skiing not like a pro, go GFT. The fitting capacity of both are identical. You will get the same fit. Period.

Of course the Gara will ski stiffer and transmit more energy laterally (in pow…) but the GFT will ski 1000x better than your stock liner. The biggest difference will be the Gara feels stiffer rearwards, which will also make it your way less gooder.

Toes tight? Go GFT. Lack of rear ROM in Gara will crush your toes.

The GFT in an alpine boot will ski amazing.

Try them both on in a shop if you can.

I have skied gft, freerider (leather liner with sidewinder) and gara hv. Slight nod to the freerider and gara for alpine. That slight nod is indistinguishable compared to how much better all of them (including the gft) are compared to all other liners I’ve tried including on downhill.

If I were you, I’d go with gft. Don’t switch footbeds and use same liner in both boots. I would not want to tour in the other 2 liners and the gft (aside from hefty weight) is amazing to tour in. And gft is fantastic in an alpine boot as well.

If you have other touring liners you like, then go gara. It’s slightly better that gft - 1 it doesn’t get as warm, and when the gft gets very hot your foot can slide around a little even when buckled up and 2 gara is easier to get in and out of the shell because there’s no flex zone. Other than those two things, gft = other zip fits imo

I agree with this full statement. I found my gara to migrate cork a little bit when I hiked with it and the ROM is garbage compared to the GFT. I’ve used my GFT in my xt3 140 and it skis great, not as stiff as my gara or corsa but definitely better then a stock liner. I’d buy a GFT only as well

I got GFT’s for my Zero G’s and now run them in my Cochise as well. Same footbed, just swap em when needed. I do have the stubborn spots on both the liners and inside the shells taped up to reduce wear and it also makes it much easier to get them on. After a few touring days in a row I get a little pressure point when I switch back to the Cochise, but just waking around in it for a few minutes generally takes care of it

Anyone experience a sensation of an elevated heel when switching to zipfits?

ZGTP boot with GFTs coming from stock liner. My custom footbeds are a pretty tight fit inside the GFT and I’m experiencing a sensation of an elevated heel in the boot while using the GFT.

It feels like cutting down the width of my footbed might fix this issue but can anyone give me a sanity check before I do so?

Never even had a hot spot in these except for day 1. Best liners, by far, I’ve ever owned. Cold toes are only downside so far

If you drop your footbed into your shell without the liner and slide it 2-3mm off the back, it should have a few mm of clearance between it and the shell. If not, the heel will be suspended. Also make sure the footbed fits cleanly into the liner.

Thanks. This was 100% the issue. After cutting back the footbed the heel lift feeling went away.

Anyone running a single set of GFT liners in both their ZGTPs and Cochise? I wear the cochise for inbounds/slack-country duty but my liner is shot. I just put some Intutions in my ZGTPs but figure I will want to use the zipfits in them too if I spend the dough. I wear 28.5 in both boots so I was thinking 29.5 for the liner... thoughts?

I would think you’d want to match the shell, unless you are downsizing a lot and need the extra toe space. That’s what https://www.zipfit.com/resources/faq suggests

Does anyone aside from Jongle have experience with GFTs near or below 0 degrees F? Looking to do some easy ski mountaineering with GFTs and Hawx XTD and want to be prepared for for 0 to -10F. Don’t mind cold toes but would rather look at other options if frostbite is going to be a serious concern

I don't have any experience with the gft's, but I've skied my freerides in -20F air temps, with wind chill somewhere around -45F. Toes were chilly, but fine. No toe heaters or electronics or anything like that. That was also riding lifts, where my feet are generally colder than if I'm touring.

It's a vasodilator, and an old trick from a former life ice climbing in the north east. Never taken it for skiing but it will keep your extremities warmer. The suppression of the vasoconstriction response when cold does make you more susceptible to hypothermia though...
