We deployed a type 6 and an ARFF today. Earliest I can remember.
Good news! Mars has clouds. https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/nasas-...clouds-on-mars
A really good article on issues facing federal wildfire crews.

I'm not sure I agree. From ground level photos/video ( https://twitter.com/US_Stormwatch/st...46687931572224 ) it looked like it sheared off and dispersed at a fairly low level above the ground. Didn't look like it was plume dominated. Not to say that it's not impressive, just that it's not as impressive as Stormwatch made it out to be.
I thought about that and decided that Stormwatch doesn’t know what ‘plume’ means to the wildfire world. You probably know this well, Lone Star, but plume dominated fire behavior is rare and super-scary because of the downburst.
That’s an impressive column (and upper level winds) in the clips, but I agree, it’s not plume dominated - most people, including meteorologists, don’t know what that means.

^^^Wind-aided column from Milli fire, Sisters OR Aug 2016
That's from about 7 miles away
That peak you see in the middle background is 10k'
smoke is in front of and below horizon line of peak so base of it is below that elevation. not plume dominated at time of pic.
